🍏APRIL QUEST: WEEK 1 Don’t be an April Fool!

The Easter weekend is almost over and here we are in April. Our thanks to Oldfloss for hosting in March and we all wish her well in the 10k race on the 7th!

So what are you planning this week? Don’t believe those negative voices that tell you to pack it in, tell you, you will never run that distance, tell you, you are rubbish at working out your pace. How about that feeling of fear and dread that now you have signed up for a race, you are sure you can’t do it? The other lie we fall for sometimes is that it’s not okay to walk some of the run sometimes! We all at times have doubts or fears of one kind or another don’t we? Let’s share the burden and encourage one another onward and upward!

Don’t let those foolish voices hamper what you really want to do, and that is to enjoy your next run!

You don’t need an amazing quest.. something as simple as I am going to conquer that hill this week or I will start back with some strength and flex or I will run/ walk the 10k to get a feel of it…. One simple goal is sometimes all it takes! Happy Questing everyone!

⭐️⭐️ “Believe you can and you are halfway there.” Theodore Roosevelt ⭐️⭐️

If you are new to the Quest, here is the info !

SO: What is the Quest ?

The aim of the Quest is to help you find a focus or goal that you would like to achieve by the end of the Quest period.

The Quest takes one calendar month. You can join at any point during that time.

You do need to be a C25K Graduate before joining the Quest. The reason for this is that pre-graduation your week is very much structured according to the C25K programme, and I wouldn't want the Quest to interfere with that.

Some popular goals are:

🍏To run three times a week

🍏To slowly increase distance

🍏To train for a specific race

🍏To add Stretch and Strength exercises to your weekly routine

This is a personal challenge, so it's completely up to you! If you want to join, all you have to do is COMMENT BELOW with something like:

I would like to join the Quest, or, count me in! I want to ..............

Every week I will put up a new post and we can all chat about how we are doing. Your contribution here will encourage someone else.

🍏My Easter Quest bombed out. I wanted to do a contemplative sunrise run on Easter morning but was up most of the night with hubby who has had Norovirus! So my Quest this week is to get back into one 5K run and two shorter ones if possible. To pick up my Pilates where I left off & to implement good sleep hygiene again.

Wavy-chick28 profile image
Wavy-chick28Graduate10 in reply toAnnieapple

Oh no the dreaded Norovirus hope you can avoid it! I am going to continue with my 3 runs a week and hope to re start some yoga it’s been a bit sporadic lately!

Happy whatever is left of Easter, off to number 2 son today no chance of fitting in a run but looking forward to some super hugs which my son always gives 🐥

🍏 Well super hugs from a son is the best gift one can get! Enjoy 😉 🤗 Our questing is much the same this week! Thanks I hope to avoid the bug. So far so good. We will catch up next week and see how we are both getting on! Xx

Good morning Annieapple🙋‍♀️

So my quest for this week is again is much the same as last week…….with one small addition.

💐Continue my revisit of C25K with Steve Cram

💐Continue with my stretches before and after my runs

💐Be more determined to succeed

💐Keep looking for the positives in everything

💐Take my 3rd run of each week of C25K to parkrun! ….maybe weather permitting.

I'm on the beyond 5km part of the couch to 5km app, still enjoying listening to Steve Cram. I had the app on my headphones at parkrun on sat, and I'm saying out loud, oh come on Steve, surely I've done the time now, ring that bell!

He likes Parkrun, does Steve Cram. He comes with me quite a lot. He probably doesn't appreciate my comments to him at times.

White rabbits!!! Thank you for hosting this super Quest !

Here I am, ready to head very gently towards the meet up and race next Sunday!

No danger of me being an April Fool... my body is my guide!

So.... quest for this month.

* Continue with my regular exercise. Including Mr OF's and mine, T'ai Chi class.

* Feature Yoga into more routines... the calmness is the thing!

* Continue to build up running wise... and get back to a regular routine... but always prepared to ease back.

* I am back to an hour of comfortable running, so, I would love to get back to my long Sunday Funday Run days.

So... there we are !

Happy, safe questing every one..!

Hi Annieapple,

Count me in please, April is here!

My quest is to stay calm, practice quiet confidence, believe I can, and then finish the 10k event next Sunday in one piece.

My run/walk of over 6k yesterday went a long way (🤭) to building my confidence, having only started running again in January following a ruptured Baker's cyst in my right knee.

10k is a big ask.

I will have a good friend at my side, looking out for me and we will encourage each other I know. There will have to be plenty of walking breaks, the joy for me will be the meet up and companionship.

I will fit yoga in as and when, but might have to miss some days while we are in Derbyshire.

Good luck to all questers, those running, restarting or waiting recovery.

🍏🥳⭐️Wow this is going to be a fantastic reunion and run/ walk camaraderie next weekend!!! So very exciting!!! It is a big ask so that staying peaceful and calm will play a huge role! These big challenges are made up of tiny steps… even on the day itself.. give yourself permission to listen to your body! 6k is amazing and is good preparation! Between the runs, walks & adrenaline you will cross that finish line… We will all be rooting for you with our Pom Pom brigade!! May it be a lifetime experience of courage, support and friendship. That’s the essence of a good race of any distance. 💪🏃‍♀️🏃‍♀️🏃‍♀️ 🌺 🌷 🌹

Hi! I've just completed 103 miles walking for the Samaritans in March. Now it's a new month and new challenges, 1km a day for 14 days for Mind, and 100 miles for the Stroke Association I love taking part in these challenges.

Have a good month everyone x

Annieapple profile image
AnnieappleAdministrator in reply toKoala679

🍏Wow that’s a lot of walking but these challenges benefit both you and the charity! So well done!! It’s good to aim at something otherwise it’s easy to do nothing! Well done ⭐️

GTFC profile image
GTFCGraduate10 in reply toKoala679

Well done Koala679 as a former Samaritans listening volunteer, I want to say a huge THANK YOU 🙏 ⭐⭐⭐⭐

Koala679 profile image
Koala679 in reply toGTFC

Thank you! I've loved doing it. I've had problems myself and many years ago sadly lost a family friend to suicide, so if my walking and raising some money will help the Samaritans be able to help some one who needs it, I'm happy to do it.

Annieapple profile image
AnnieappleAdministrator in reply toKoala679

🍏🤗👏 You are turning something very sad into something positive. Your family friend would be very proud of of you!! I say to both you and GTFC THANKS for giving so much to the hurting community both now and in the past!

Happy April and thanks for a great new quest. I had a really good month on March…right until the final week where I was super busy and had migraines. My first task is to get back on track. That’s going to be three runs a week, two strength sessions and a swim each week with some stretchy yoga/massage using spiky balls and foam roller.

I didn’t quite get my 10k done because of the last week going pear shaped. I’m hoping to fit that in soon and then start building to 10 miles for the HU event in May. Exciting times! I think I’ll probably use the NRC HM plan again, mashed up with something on my garmin.

My eating has been terrible recently with life being busy. I really want to get back on track with eating better to support the runs. This week should be a good opportunity to stock the freezer with things other than pizza, oven chips and fake chicken nuggets!!!

So…

🏃‍♀️3 runs a week-non negotiable (except for illness/injury!)

🏃‍♀️Strength, stretch and swim

🏃‍♀️Eat more mindfully

Have a great week everyone!

Well done for March, looking forward to seeing your further progress to 10k and beyond :)

Annieapple profile image
AnnieappleAdministrator

🍏planning food is definitely key I agree otherwise one grabs what’s quick & easy. Mmm wondering if I should investigate our local pool.. is a swim once a week enough do you think? 🤔 Your Quest is easily sustainable provided you don’t get migraines… clear cut goals get the job done!

MissUnderstanding profile image
MissUnderstandingAdministratorGraduate10 in reply toAnnieapple

My question to anyone asking “is it enough?” is… “enough for what?” I only swim once a week and I really enjoy it. That’s enough for me and I’ve seen how many laps I can do in the time increase so I must be getting a bit better.

Thanks for the encouragement as always! Let’s hope the pesky migraines and illnesses stay away and we both stay on track ❤️

AnnieappleAdministrator in reply toMissUnderstanding

🍏🤗I will see if I can get a Friday session at our local pool. Thanks for that idea and encouragement xxx

Happy April Annie, I've been a bit lax with quests lately but been running and enjoying plodding on slowly. I ran for 25 minutes this morning and my next run should be hill repeats but I've sprung a cold🙄so it might be a few days.....hope everyone is enjoying the lighter evenings

Annieapple profile image

🍏Lots of bugs about just as we are starting to enjoy a bit of sunshine and longer days! The 25 min run is one of my favourites… long enough to feel you have had a run and not too long when life is busy.. missing your photos!! Xx

Hi Annieapple , as someone born on April Fools Day I'm always well on the lookout for practical jokes etc. Joking aside, I'm off back to the boat tomorrow so anticipate that opportunities to run will be limited for the next month or so. My Quest is to not let that bother me.

Instead:

- I'll log all my long walks (something I love to do, exploring on foot is the best way to see new places)

- run when I can. There will be places with parks, beaches etc where a run is a good idea. It's up to me to find them. If I don't then the farmland paths will still be there when I get home.

My NRC 10k plan is on hold, don't know when I'll get back to it but I'm sure I will.

It's all upsides :)

Act a little silly? Not quite acting, but I am sillylyly excited about me signing up for the SixPack challenge, running a series of 6 routes with distances of 6, 6, 6, 7, 7, 10k making up a marathon!

I’ve got the summer to finish it to get my medal. And I’m using it to motivate my training up to 10k again.

Hello, and thanks for hosting. My only quest this first week is to get well again. We've seen the little munchkins, aka as the grandchildren, so often that they keep sharing their bugs with us, and the latest is the worst cold ever that's working its way around my body, ending in a nasty cough that just goes on and on. I've done some short runs but anything else has gone completely awry. But it's not all bad news, garmin says I've clocked up 700k in the last 12 months! I'm well chuffed.

700k!
Annieapple profile image
AnnieappleAdministrator in reply toSax64

🍏Thats an awesome stat! Well done!! 👏 yes these bugs that do the rounds and cause us grief are horrible and our running schedule is disrupted which makes us even more miserable! However sometimes it’s a positive to give our bodies a break. You will enjoy it all the more once you are well. Take time out to read drink lots of water and eat good protein foods. Let us know when you are running again.

Noon being well past, it is time for my actual Quest goals for April...

I was pretty pleased with last month's successes... they provide an obvious base to build on this month too:

1) Translate my will/trust making enquiry into an actual appointment

2) 5K run for a beautiful puffin medal in my year of British Wildlife medals with Virtual Racing... March's had to be a run/walk to be sensible post-Covid... but there was a glitch with distance measurement so it was actually more distance and more walking... looking forward to just doing a run!

3) Do another, different, yoga programme

4) Build on the bonus effect of ongoing Covid appetite suppression and continue with weight loss

Annieapple profile image
AnnieappleAdministrator

🍏Yes ✅ that appointment off. I need to as well. I love puffins so a photo of that medal will be great in due course.

Mixing things up a bit is a good idea.. helps stimulate us to keep going .. A sensible diet that supports running is a great quest for all of us!!

👏Keep on keeping on! Well done!

Thanks for hosting the quest Annieapple! Count me in. I had a lovely run today and came across these goose-sized birds. Not sure what they are? Anyway I have been doing weights and indoor cardio workouts between my running after recovering from COVID earlier this year. I was really pleased as I retained quite a bit of residual fitness and was able to run for 30mins x
