New shoe and a q

Well, obviously it's two new shoes.... and some socks... because sale...

Those who follow the forum Quests will know that I've been wanging on about new shoes for some time and this month's host Yesletsgo gave me the nudge I needed. Well, that and the cats filling my Freets with urine...

So I dashed into the new Inov8 shop and declared the emergency... However, paying full whack for these men's Trailfly G270s, and with the awful trouble I've had with my most recent Vivo running shoes rubbing scar tissue, the advice to wear them round the house first so I could come back if I had problems made me abandon my plan to whip off my 'stealth' layer and get them thoroughly grubby by the end of the afternoon.

So my Q is - do people do this or do they throw caution to the wind? (It's also a while since I was in anything not barefoot for running... these are zero drop but slightly more cushioned)

if you’re wondering whether they’d rub scar tissue - yes, I’d wear them around the house for a few days to see. Otherwise I’d just go out in them. They look great 👍🏽

I don’t wear mine in and have never had any problems… Enjoy!🙂

Ooh, those are very nice! That's another thing to tick on your Quest, happy to help 😂

Whenever I've bought new shoes the fit has been fine from the start, but if the shop is advising you to wear them round the house it might be a good idea...just keep the cat away from them 😼

🍏Bad cat! 🤣 I wear mine straight away but with scar tissue I would definitely wear them in a bit around the house or go for a short walk.

Oooh nice shoes!

If I’m wearing a new brand or even a new style within the same brand then I always “run them in”. I wear them in the house for a few days and then ease into running with a very short first run and then a few 5K’s. If I’m just buying an identical shoe from last time then I don't wear them around the house but I still ease into them running.

My podiatrist has told me that our feet have to get used to every new shoe because obviously they’re very different to our old used shoe!

These are different to what you’ve been used to therefore I would go with caution and follow the shop’s recommendation.

Enjoy them GM and I hope they bring you loads of joyful running 🤗

Lovely shoes!🥰. Socks too! 🙂

Oooh an Inov shop you say 🤔.

I love my zero drop shoes. I wore them yesterday for walking the dog 🐕

I hope you get on all right with them 👍🙂🏃‍♀️

Only up the garden to the compost heap late in the day (ie through the Amazonian jungle minus the leeches...)

The Inov8 shop is in Bakewell (I forget the name of the road, but it is where Costa used to be on the road to Monyash - there's a little coffee shop corner in there still) Those pairs of socks are currently £6 sale and proper sizes.

I think the shoes will be good, perhaps better than full barefoot on our local trails at my current weight but not full conventional which I really do not seem to get on with. And I had the choice of two pairs, each in glorious colours.

Looks like nice weather today.

wossername of Derbyshire, now a farmer oop t’Penistone, is/was an innov8 runner. I noticed when I did the Wingerworth Wobble fell run there were plenty of Inovs involved. Runforest sells them too I think 🤔

Nikki Spinks! 💡

I visited my compost this morning and it’s well cooked, the bin is empty —ish and ready for the off 🔥

Christened them on the High Peak Trail on a 5K, funnily enough the same place I did my first 5K (but minus all the yelling because Google went over a wall after a rabbit) Didn't intend to go in that direction but was happily headed the other way when I realised I'd left my bag in the car so it was unlocked... so turned back, grabbed bag and then kept going.

I always wear new round the house to break them in... but that is because I have got in the habit over the many, many years I have been wearing shoes, of breaking in any new shoes. very sassy!

I have a pair of these too. My go anywhere do anything (running) in shoes. Very handy for parkrun tourism and mixed surfaces.

I didn't break them in.

I think breaking in shoes is more for those with with more padding, support and cushioning.

Mixed surfaces is me - I often don't know when I get in the car where I am going to run - will I be calf deep in a bog, skipping along a gritstone edge, bashing along a trail.
