Somedays you wake up and wish with all your heart it wasn’t a run day! After a restless night with the wind howling and hubby up & down checking the gate & fences it was time to brave it! I rolled into my kit and did an extra long warm up, a sure sign I wasn’t eager to get out there and continue my NRC plan. Unusually I was in no mood for Coach B’s optimism. There was however one thing in my favour…the wind would be behind me. I set off down the hill & suddenly after a while I realised why I was doing this! I am a runner.. I enjoy challenges.. why wouldn’t I run on Monday! I emerge on to the promenade and joy of joy there is some protection from the Westerly gale as I hug the steep grassy bank. Coach B is telling me to run easy… As I move up a gear just a tad.. the waves are all over the place, the tide is in, there is no beach to behold.. A runner passes me in the opposite direction.. we give each other a knowing look.. we are here because we want to be!!! I feel alive & thankful as I look up and see the Sun rays streaking through the ominous dark clouds!
I head into the full force of the wind again as I head up the hill and home.. it’s much tougher running into the wind .. but the mental resolve to end strongly keeps me inching forward and suddenly it’s over! Run done ✅

I am skimming through the 5K plan in order to start the 10k properly if that makes sense. I have run 5k many times but not ever completed the training with the speed runs etc. I am always a work in progress 🤣
Well done! I really don’t like running in the wind. Give me -2 any day. Seems like you enjoyed it once you made it out!
The wind dropped here and first thing this morning, I was wishing it WAS a run day. But I ran yesterday, so back to bed with a cuppa it was 😊, after checking everything that should be in my garden was still there!
Runs are great, and easy to do, when it feels easy; but getting out after a disrupted night, with the 'not sure' gremlin fighting to get into your head... well!
That looks like a lovely place to run and you had a good one! Well done you!x
👏 You have a good eye Folkylass It is indeed Lass. Canny restaurant with guest pianists some evenings & posh fish & chips on the menu! Tim (Ianodatruffe) always picked out landmarks in my photos as he lived in the NE for a part of his life & loved it too. If you look to the left you will see the change room for the famous sunrise sea swimmers! Lovely to chat with you Lass. Xxx
well done you Annieapple, I had friends over yesterday so no time for run,but have just returned from a damp run. Like you I could’ve thought not ideal conditions and stayed in drinking coffee but then we would never go out !!
Well done Annie! It sounds like a really exhilarating run. I wish I lived near the sea to get all that lovely sea air and see how it changes every day. Here in Staffordshire we can't get much further away!! I used to live near the sea but I wasn't a runner then 🤔😂 I miss it.
🍏I am so grateful for the opportunity to be here. When my hubby retired we moved from beautiful Cambridgeshire Fenlands to the seaside for that exact reason you mention! The ever changing moods and colours of the sea! . However there is beauty to be found on our runs wherever we live. I remember doing a run in the back lanes and alleys as it was super windy and raining . It was too exposed on the beach paths. There were mainly bins to be seen but every now and again in a crack of an old brick wall would be a beautiful plant that had self seeded. Or a seagull up on a post would be crying out as they do… Next to back gates a lone pansy was growing in between some grass and debris. It’s amazing what you see on a run 😊Hopefully your holidays sometimes take you to the seaside.
"We are here because we want to be" - that's the kind of looks I'm getting and giving at the moment too. Wonder if that's a winter/crap weather thing for if I'll notice the same in the Spring?!
I think it’s definitely a rough weather thing! There aren’t as many runners out there & those of us who are, are there by choice & for probably the same reasons so we have an innate bond that is not as evident in the better weather.
