Hello Everyone and happy weekend. Today is parkrun day, a free 5K event which takes place every Saturday morning all around the world. It is for everyone, slow, fast, able, disabled, big, small and everyone in between. Oh and don't forget about the super Mum's and Dad's who push their babies in buggies. You can walk, jog, run, run/walk, it's not a race, just a run in the park and loads of us here on Bridge to 10K do it religiously every Saturday morning.
Some of us may not be able to do a parkrun at the moment so until parkrun returns fully for everyone some of us will continue to take part on our own in a Virtual parkrun every Saturday morning called a (not)parkrun. Or if you are away on Holidays, prefer to run on your own, or do not have a parkrun close by you a (not)parkrun is perfect, please feel free to join in. Please post a little run report after your parkrun or (not)parkrun and let everyone know how you got on. The little run report can be done over a post parkrun coffee and treat/cake. (parkrun is all about the after run coffee and cake, and meeting friends old and new).
If you are a new graduate and would like to start, all you have to do is run, walk or jog at a parkrun or a 5K run/jog/walk (not)parkrun anytime today or tomorrow and write a little run report under this post. It's like a little community and it is good fun, sets you up nicely for the weekend. If you want to you can register on the parkrun website and you can log your 5K (not)parkrun. In fact you can log any 5K done during the week as a (not)parkrun.
For anyone whom has not done a real parkrun yet and if it is available to you, give it a try. It is the most wonderful community event. Saturday mornings will never be the same again.
Looking forward to hearing from all of you who ran in real proper parkruns and (not)parkruns. Happy running and have a lovely weekend.

Good afternoon Damien, this morning I took the train to Glasgow and ran at Springburn parkrun, on the way there on the train I witnessed a beautiful sunrise, my time today was 31:51, my best time for a while, next week I'll be at Palacerigg parkrun dressed in a Christmas jumper with a red Santa hat.
Fantastic finish time Al and very well done. Wishing you a very happy Christmas and a happy and healthy 2024. Enjoy the Christmas parkruns next weekend.
Thanks TailChaser, looking forward to next week, on the Saturday before Christmas most runners at Palacerigg parkrun wear Christmas gear, because Palacerigg hasn't got a parkrun on Christmas 🤶🎄 Day
I do have a red Santa hat, the type you see people in Christmas choir's singing, I will also be wearing a Christmas jumper which has alot of reindeer all over it, the predominate colour of that jumper is red.
Thanks BC66, the ticket inspector on the train home was wearing a Christmas jumper with Ho, Ho, Ho all over it, he got permission from Scotrail to wear it.
I’m so sorry everyone, I’m late putting up this post. I’m out of action for a while due to having very bruised ribs following a fall last weekend. I’m still in a lot of pain and discomfort. I got a physio session yesterday morning so hopefully that will help. So this morning I volunteered at parkrun and I was handing out the finish tokens. It’s my new favourite volunteer role. Happy running everyone.
No need to apologise damienair , Well done for volunteering at parkrun today. Your injury sounds very painful, so I hope it eases for you soon. I like handing out finish tokens too.
Thank you. I won’t be running for a while. Getting into and out of bed is the absolute worst pain. Pain has gone from 10/10 last weekend to 6/10 this weekend. So if that continues I will hopefully be a lot more comfortable for Christmas.
As Dexy says, no need to apologise, just thank you for posting! Fingers crossed the physio works and you feel better in time for the festivities. Finish tokens is a nice one 😍
Hello damienair , parkrunners and (not) parkrunners , 289 runners were at Southsea this morning, which isn’t bad considering there was a 5k and 10k Santa Run starting at 10.30, and a festive HM, M and Ultra on tomorrow . It was a great atmosphere and lots of festive costumes were on show. UpTheStanley ran a 10 mile this week, so declared he would run with me. 😱.
Thankfully I ran at my own pace and he just kept me going, pointing out ‘targets’ along the way. 😂 I was a bit warm in my running jacket, so stripped that off and passed it to Oldgirlruns who was marshalling, prior to barcode scanning, setting down and token sorting for us today. What a great volunteer.
It was grey, drizzly, and a head wind of 13 mph for the outward leg. parkrun time 34:11, Garmin 33:31 . I was 1st in my age group with an age grade score of 61.14%. Very pleased with that!
Good afternoon Damien and all. Feeling very pleased with myself this afternoon as I finally broke 30 minutes again. I’d put my headphones on and my Christmas shoes thinking I’d just pootle along again as I’ve the sausage run tomorrow, but a regular I know started chatting and we chatted all the way round. So out goes John Grant singing away to me and in come some negative splits 😀. It’s been months since I did a sub 30 and I was beginning to think that my speedier days were behind me. It’s still not up to my standards but it’s an awful lot better than it was 😃 Definitely feeling the parkrun love and spirit this afternoon 😍
Congratulations and very well done to you on your sub 30 minute 5K parkrun. It’s an amazing feeling after months of slow running training. Delighted for you.
Well done, I have given up even dreaming of 30 minutes. I doubt I will ever get back to my all time pb of 32.01.But as you know, I don't care, as long as I get my parkrun fix 😀
No parkrun for me last weekend. Things got chaotic on Tuesday before last when Dad called me to say that he was going into hospital in an ambulance with chest pains…
The immediate concern was for Mum who has been housebound since her stroke 14 years ago, and running was far from my thoughts. Caring duties have been spread between me and my sister over the last week or so. Thankfully I'm fully work-from-home and can work from anywhere with a net connection and a quiet room for the occasional half hour video call.
As to Dad, the cardiologist thinks he's not too badly affected, but there's a wait on an angiogram as he's got a bleed in the intestines which appears to have been triggered by some new medicine he's been on to lower his thyroid hormone levels. The angiogram (and possible stent fitting) would require blood thinners which are very much not advised if you have a persistent bleed elsewhere. Getting the gastric lot to shift into gear has taken over a week.
Anyway, the situation had stabilised enough this last week that I was able to get out for some short runs mid-week (Tue, Wed, Thu) just to stop me losing fitness. As you'd expect, plans for Christmas have been scaled right back.
I'm back home for the weekend (they live in rural Wales) so went to my local parkrun, and did my 89th parkrun at Chadderton.
Arriving, I thought it might have been cancelled as my car was the first to park on the road beside the park. Thankfully I saw the cones and the signs through the morning mists.
Fewer people there today than usual: just forty. It's usually 60-70. We even had some tourists from Rotherham.
The Run Director's speech was interrupted by her little son scampering around and flinging himself at her. We had one guy in a red and white Santa suit.
Not as cold as it could have been. The mist dispersed during the course of the run. I'll admit I didn't push myself today. I just wanted to finish.
Official time: 30:39, 17th out of 40, but first (of four) in my age category.
Great effort this morning and well done. I’m sure it was a nice break from the caring duties during the week. I wish your Dad a very speedy recovery and hope all goes well with the procedures.
A mild 11 degrees up here today. I think that I need to make a New Year resolution re Park Run! The trouble is that I need to be up and breakfasted by 8am in order to drive to the nearest Park Run and be ready to start by 9am. Walking out of the door to the start of my favourite trail, with coffee to finish, takes about 7 min! Anyway, I have started to speed up a bit; two 6.54 pace 5ks achieved through increasing spm rather than stride length, one with negative splits. Today was fun; intervals (power pyramid) with Sally McRae. V02 max went up! Hopefully I can step up my Monday long run each week and gradually inject a bit more pace through the other two runs. I know that I can run faster; as I also know only too well, it is just a question of not picking up niggles in the process! Patience……..
It was festive parkrun time at Portsmouth Lakeside this morning so having been 'persuaded' by Dexy5 , Oldgirlruns and cheekychipmunks , I dug a Santa hat out of the loft - and below is the proof!
It was very mild so t-shirt and shorts were perfectly adequate. A pretty good turnout with 271 finishers and I was beaten by a Christmas tree! My official time was 33.33 - must be a target of some sort achieved?
I think it was my 5th parkrun and my first at Lakeside, because Southsea was cancelled for the regatta. 35:53 . It was also the week before getting my Garmin. How things have moved on……
Hello fellow runners! Finally I managed my first parkrun in 4 weeks thanks to travel and weather issues. Can you believe it is only 4 weeks since Kapiti lexi6 Anyway, a beautiful sunny, mild and wind free morning for my return to Market Rasen. Still really struggling with my breathing, so it was a run/walk and a time of 34.52, which is pretty rubbish, but at least I was out there. Parkrun no. 91. Only 9 to go 😁
Sorry, I am late again! We returned to Marple this week on a lovely morning
A couple of small squelchy spots but generally not too bad (my shoes were a little muddy but my feet were dry). But the ground seemed particularly lumpy in places so had to take care.
We retired to Libby's with the RD ( avocado and poached eggs on toast) and sorted the finish tokens. Number 3 missing.
This morning I went early to junior parkrun to check the area between the funnel and scanners in the hope of finding number 3 but no luck.
I got a junior Tailwalker pb today - 16.08 which was quite impressive considering the little girl took a few walking breaks.
In case anyone was wondering, I didn't get an official time, I just like to make a note of the final runner's time.
Forgot to mention last week, after several stints at post PR token sorting, I did my first spot of Marshalling for 9 months. Good job it wasnt 2 weeks ago when it was freezing.I know that for running one should dress as if it is ca. 10 degrees warmer.
I should have remembered when marshalling, to dress as if it is 10 degrees colder!Kudos to all PR volunteets this winter.
