Hello Everyone and happy weekend. Today is parkrun day, a free 5K event which takes place every Saturday morning all around the world. It is for everyone, slow, fast, able, disabled, big, small and everyone in between. Oh and don't forget about the super Mum's and Dad's who push their babies in buggies. You can walk, jog, run, run/walk, it's not a race, just a run in the park and loads of us here on Bridge to 10K do it religiously every Saturday morning.
Some of us may not be able to do a parkrun at the moment so until parkrun returns fully for everyone some of us will continue to take part on our own in a Virtual parkrun every Saturday morning called a (not)parkrun. Or if you are away on Holidays, prefer to run on your own, or do not have a parkrun close by you a (not)parkrun is perfect, please feel free to join in.
Please post a little run report after your parkrun or (not)parkrun and let everyone know how you got on. The little run report can be done over a post parkrun coffee and treat/cake. (parkrun is all about the after run coffee and cake, and meeting friends old and new).
If you are a new graduate and would like to start, all you have to do is run, walk or jog at a parkrun or a 5K run/jog/walk (not)parkrun anytime today or tomorrow and write a little run report under this post. It's like a little community and it is good fun, sets you up nicely for the weekend. If you want to you can register on the parkrun website and you can log your 5K (not)parkrun. In fact you can log any 5K done during the week as a (not)parkrun.
For anyone whom has not done a real parkrun yet and if it is available to you, give it a try. It is the most wonderful community event. Saturday mornings will never be the same again.Looking forward to hearing from all of you who ran in real proper parkruns and (not)parkruns. Happy running and have a lovely weekend.

Sorry Damien, as you hadn't posted anything by 1pm I posted one but told everyone to reply to you, not me if your parkrun post was sent a bit late
This morning I ran my 54th parkrun at Dunfermline parkrun in a time of 32.44, it was quite warm but luckily the sun didn't shine until around 10.30 by which time the run for everyone was completed, I was congratulated on wearing my 50 Red T Shirt 👚 by many people I know.
Fantastic. Very well done Alan. So sorry I was late posting. Life has been extremely busy lately. I’m only getting a chance to catch up now. Great that you were wearing your 50 parkrun T-Shirt. I’m going to wait until I do my 25th volunteering day and then I’m going to order a 100 and V25 T-Shirt at the same time.
Luckily for me my recent routine of run 3, volunteer 1, meant that I was due to volunteer today! It was so warm and the sun was very strong (not a cloud in the sky!). Even if I had been planning to run, I think I would have backed out and volunteered! I’m fair skinned with lots of freckles and I don’t cope well with lots of sun! 😂 Lots of visitors to Lowestoft today but numbers were still a bit down on normal (due to the heat I presume). 299 very sweaty bodies across the line today! 🥵 I was tasked to barcode scanning and it all went ahead with no hiccups! A fair few people with no barcodes though! If you’re going to put yourself through that, then please don’t forget your barcode people! I only learnt this week that my Garmin Forerunner 45s can hold my barcode. I’m sure I’d read somewhere that it couldn’t as it’s the basic model but a friend put me right and showed me how to add it.
Enjoy the sunshine and the rest of your weekend everyone! ☀️
I bet you were thankful that you did not run this morning Newbierunner84 because of the strong sunshine, thanks to North Sea low cloud the parkrun in Fife where I ran the low cloud kept the strong sunshine out until the run was over, less than 30 minutes after I finished my run the clouds despersed and the sun broke through with the temperature rising quickly.
I am sure there are many runners, especially in the south of England wish Autumn was now here, they must be fed up with continuous sunshine and temperatures above 30C day after day.
Hope you stayed coolish playing golf Damien. How lovely having your brother with you! 🇨🇦
Severn Bridge for me today. Its 4th birthday as it turned out! 🎉 It was the best of a bad bunch in terms of trying to avoid the heat and/or crowds. Whereas I usually cuss headwinds, today’s light one on the out stretch was very welcome. At the turn though it was stifling, and in typical SB fashion the only shade was the shadows of the bridge struts, and the lack of any wind was a killer. 🥵
So a sedate 37:28 (Garmin) 37:37 (official) today. I was just pleased to keep going and make it to the end! 🙏🏻
No I’m afraid I didn’t Dexy! I forgot they’d asked for a beach theme and assumed it was someone’s 100th or something when I saw all the Hawaiian shirts, grass skirts and garlands!
It’s what I was hoping for Jonathan. There was a slight headwind on the way out which felt nice, but it was still and sultry on the way back. Brutal. 😩🥵
We were fine, it was very warm even at 8am, we had hired golf buggies so it saved the legs and meant we were out of the Sun for some of the time. Very well done on your parkrun. I’ll be back running on Tuesday. I’m just over that awful dose I had. As a result I have not ran in over a month. So it will be slow and steady for a while.
Brilliant and very well done on your volunteering day as Tailwalker. Everyone loves that job at my local parkrun as it is booked up for 2-3 months. Great way to cool down afterwards with your hubby and daughter.
I thought of going, but im still in week 5. I thought I’d appreciate the boost to conquer week 5’s infamous 20 min run, but then I thought I’d only run for 20 mins and then have to walk the rest and end with a time of nearly an hour.My local park runs do have people finishing at that time, but very few. Most finish within 30 mins, so I think I’ll only go when i can do 5k in that time
Lots of people use parkrun as a graduation run dfc, that might give you an incentive. I wouldn’t worry about doing 30 minutes, you know you’ll never be last don’t you? The runners who finished in front of the tail walkers at our parkrun today did it in 57 minutes, and that is never a problem, that’s why it’s so inclusive. All the best with the remainder of your C25k 💪👏👏
Ha ha, I graduated 4 years ago and still can’t run it in 30 minutes, but I have done over 100 parkruns. It’s a great thing to do after graduation. You can walk for 5 mins, run for 30 mins at your C25k pace and then walk again
Hey dfclondon, absolutely no need to wait until you’ve graduated, and please don’t assume you need to run PR in 30 minutes. I’m a huge PR attendee (92 as of today) and it’s unlikely I’ll ever run it in that time. As the others have said, you can run/walk in accordance with C25K until you’re ready to run the lot. Even then it doesn’t matter as lots of people continue running/walking each week.
I started doing parkrun when I was at week 5 or 6 of C25K. You can run, walk or jog. It’s a great way to start. Just turn up and follow the plan. And then walk the rest. You’ll love it 😊
Just hubby & no.2 son again for Park run as we had a tight turn around to get our eldest to his soccer game.
Brutal headwind going out & no.2 son fell as someone trod on the back of his heel during a sharp turn. The front runners were in a tight pack battling against the wind. He grazed his knee & his elbow but managed to keep running coming in at 22:00. The runner who trod on his heel helped him up & came to check on him after Park run🥰
Hubby came in at 25:24. Hubby also fell over yesterday on a run trying to avoid a poodle on an extendable lead.
Thanks TailChaser 😍 I’m much better after my big stack which was a few weeks back.. I’m not back to my usual distance but ran 6 times last week so getting there. Hubby & no.2 didn’t stack it quite as hard as me thankfully.
Very well done to them both. Hope Son no.2 is feeling better. Fair play to him for getting up and finishing his run in such a great time. Courage for a young man.
Hi Damien and all, no running for me today. I’ve got 16 miles to do tomorrow 🥵 so Katnap and I were Run Directing.
Funnily enough numbers were down this week…. It went surprisingly smoothly though, we even had an almost full roster! There were some worryingly hot runners, particularly some of the older ones, but I’m very pleased to say there were no incidents during the run (I hope they were ok once they got home). Youngest kitten ran and scanned. For some reason he thought it was a good idea to wear a black top and leggings…(he was still in bed when we left this morning so I didn’t see him until it was too late).
Hope everyone had a good run and is now fully hydrated again. I’m looking forward to a gentler week next week and a mid-week run with Shake-and-run 😍
No, he’ll have to find his shorts in his floordrobe 😅
Thanks Dexy. Yes, probably about 6am. I’m doing 8x2mile loops so I don’t have to carry loads of liquid and I can pretend I’m picking up from a water stop to mix my Tailwind. Hoping to pick up the Metric Marathon badge 🤞
Thanks JP, it wasn’t early enough - it was 18º when I started, 27º when I finally made it home 🥵 But it is done. I really, really hope that is the last of the hot runs 🙏
I haven't run "in anger" for 4 weeks. Heat, holiday (very hot!,) , heat again, calf injury and heat. I wisely chose to volunteer today as Funnel Manager and token sorter. I did a little Jeff jog again after and should be back on it next week.
I’m with you. I have not run in just over a month due to summer holidays which was followed by a sickness which affected my breathing 😮💨 and which I needed an inhaler, steroids, antibiotics and an antihistamine to get over it. I’m only feeling properly better now. So I’m going to try a run after work on Tuesday evening. Well done for Volunteering.
Not trying to play Top Trumps but next week's comeback has been put on hold. I have just got a horrible summer cold that has wiped me out since last night. I tested negative for you know what but I still feel rotten.
Although we got back from France on Monday night, my return to Parkrun has been deferred a week, as Mr S decided he wanted to go to the VW Festival at Harewood House. We set off at 8.30am so should be next week 🤞
Hello damienair hope you're all well and that you had fun with your brother playing golf! The parkrun I did today was very hot but I remembered to wear my running hat and sunglasses which helped. And there were ice lollies at the finish which were very welcome. For some reason quite a few of our results didn't upload - lots of unknowns. Fortunately I had the wherewithall to make a note of my finish position when I was handed my finish token as I remembered that my local parkrun had a similar issue a few weeks ago and asked for runners to email their positions and barcode runner number so they could match them to their times. A lot of people didn't do this and so didn't have their results recorded or receive a credit for their run which is very unfortunate. One of the volunteers at today's run recommended another local parkrun which I will try out soon so I came away with a useful tip!🤗
Decided to do my "2nendy" (is that even a thing, perhaps i have just invented it!) as I am still waiting to get some of our running group over to alderley park which is our current nendy after its creation 5 weeks ago and many of the group are away on holidays and such.
Second nearest for me was stamford park up in Stalybridge and I had a mate that had done it a few months ago so went to them for route tips and hazards. Not sure how they forgot to tell me about the steps that must be negotiated! 2 big loops and it's quite a climb on the way out. Conversely nice downhill back in though but the climb second time round in this heat had me feeling rough especially after not getting much sleep last night.
Next week I'll be back at lyme park hopefully. Have a plan that I should do lyme park every 5th parkrun so when I get to my 100th total it'll also be my 25th at lyme. Whether any cancellations they have over winter allow that to happen is another thing but it would be nice to have them line up like that.
Hi, I did my 2nd park run today, slightly faster than last week but also so much hotter and I had a friend to chat with this time so it was really good fun. We collapsed under a tree at the end 😂. Do you do park runs each week? Do you do the same location or vary it? How many have you done so far? 👍🏻
Sounds like you’re hooked Dendev! Well done on PR no 2. 😀
I’ve run a fair few different PRs, the majority used to be at my home one (which isn’t closest to my home as it turns out), but I’m spending more and more time away from it at the moment and running all the local ones around me, one in particular, which I’m sure will overtake my ‘home’ one before long! Anything goes!
Ha ha I think I could become hooked ☺️Why did you go to your home one if it wasn’t closer? I’m exactly the same, the one I’ve been to is much further than my local one but a friend introduced me to it as it’s her local and I really like the trail through the woods. I’ve heard that my local one is more open and has more inclines 😬 but I will try it so I can compare 😊
Hi. Sorry to be just replying now. I have missed parkrun over the last 5 weeks due to being ill and holidays. But I will be back to parkrun tomorrow. I’ve got so unfit. I usually do parkrun every Saturday morning, tomorrow morning I will be traveling to do a new one. Well done on doing your 2nd parkrun. I’ve over 100 done so far.
I hope you’re feeling better and ready for your next park run tomorrow. Do you change your locations a bit or usually stick with your local one? Thanks, I’ve got my kit ready for no3 in the morning 👍🏻
I have done 107 parkruns so far and I have volunteered at parkrun 24 times. I have ran at my local parkrun 60 times and I have done 38 different parkrun courses so far, some which I have ran more than once. The next time I volunteer I will be doing a V25 milestone. I will be traveling this morning with my Cocker Spaniel doggie to run at a parkrun in Dublin. I have just 4 left to do in Dublin. 3 after today.
Hello everyone, after a week of walking, eating and drinking in Herefordshire we crossed the border to Ludlow, Shropshire. for a parkrun in Mortimer Forest. The trees gave shelter most of the way, but included even steeper ups and downs than last week. 89 runners and I was 82nd . I finished on 4.86k so, much to horror of volunteers, I collected my token after the shortest funnel I’ve ever seen and carried on running until Mr Garmin said it was 5k. I then returned to the scanner who was relieved to see the token returned.
Fenton, the Southsea parkrun bear was on holiday with us and will posting about his travels on Facebook
Have a lovely family reunion damienair- must have been hot playing golf.
Yes he did 2 forest parkruns so felt right at home. I’m looking forward to being back in the prom next week after 3 hot hilly runs. Maybe it will rain too.
I think the course was short as 4 of us tourists came up with the same problem. Either that or there was a GPS blind spot. I seemed to be the only one who kept going to 5k though 😂
Ah another great photo. Super well done on your parkrun tourism in that heat. We had a lovely game of golf. Thankfully we had hired buggies. I was playing with my 2 brothers and my Dad. It was great. Looking forward to being back at parkrun next weekend.
Arranged to meet up with an ex-colleague at Portsmouth Lakeside today. She's an RD at a nearby parkrun so welcomed the opportunity to do some tourism. It was probably the hottest parkrun I've ever done and I was grateful for our bits of shade, but a slow pace was definitely called for. It was great to cool down and catch up afterwards at the onsite cafe - although it reinforced my view that I was lucky to be able to retire when I did!
Well done JP, I bet you had no breeze at lakeside today.
Imagine our surprise when the RD asked where tourists came from this morning and someone shouted “Portsmouth”. A Lakeside runner who knows you. What a small world.
The tide was almost fully in: more than it was two weeks ago, when TailChaser and Katnap decided to go to Newborough Forest instead.
There was a very narrow strip of soft sand between the sea and the really fluffy dry sand. And the tide came in a bit between us setting off and us getting back to the start.
I have only one word to describe the conditions this morning: brutal.
The first 500m were actually fine. The sand was firm. Then it deteriorated rapidly.
For the first time ever in a parkrun, I had to do walk intervals within the first 2km, and I continued that throughout the run, with me leapfrogging other runners doing slower paces than me then walking and them passing me.
The air was warm but the sun was beating down already at 9am. All the finishers were sweaty wrecks.
The person who came in first actually finished it in 20'32"
I normally finish this course in about 28-29 minutes. Today it was 36'04".
Many of my post run chats were reassuring people that it wasn't always as hard as today's was.
And I finally got to say hello to Oldfloss 's friend Steve.
Yeayyayaya. He is one awesome runner...a Masters runner who took time to guide me through that first park run I did at Plas Heli!
Very, very well done you... I would not even have attempted it and well done for the time!
I do have to disagree with you though I feel it is always going to be a challenging run...different levels of challenge, though, whatever the conditions... there is just something, that the sea, the slope, the composition of the beach, that makes it tricky.
But I think that anyone who gets the chance should try it !
After the run, I went to Lidl, got some fresh pastries, then had a Busman's Holiday visit to my sister to fix WiFi Calling on her home network. (Incoming calls weren't ringing. The firewall in the BT Hub was interfering.)
I love parkruns but here in France after completing my 100th parkrun at the age of 70, all parkruns have been suspended here in France !!! I wish I was I in the UK 🙃
Ah no. That’s awful. I hope parkrun returns very soon for you and everyone in France.
We had a sea fret so perfect running conditions. For the first time I overtook some people towards the end so I'm nearly back to where I was pre- covid. I did my longest run ever this week 12.5 km so its been a good week!
I couldn't do parkrun today as I had a delivery arriving around 9am! However I was wide awake at 05.30 and the weather was gorgeous so I decided to set off for a run! I planned on doing around 5 miles but once I got out there I felt great so took a slight detour and ended up doing my 1st ever 10k! Woohoo feeling rather proud of myself lol
Not Parkrun this week as commitments came first, bad planning?😁. However I did my Parkrun round the village this morning as it's 5 calendar months to the day since my stroke which started this running thing off! At 8.43 on a Sunday morning as I write I've run for 45 minutes, just taken my Clopidogrel tablet and am cooling down now as the clock ticks towards the 5monthiversary of the stroke moment! So while the cardio vascular system is probably in the best shape of my adult life, I suppose a shameful statement really, my mind is still just a tad twitchy when it gets round to 9.00am on a Sunday morning. My nom de plume Chinksoflight marked the sensory moments when I started this running journey early April which seemed a particularly gloomy month. Now I'm tempted to change to Chinksofshade as the running has been characterised by horizon to horizon light for the last week. I was certainly appreciating the slightly longer shadows today. I do hope you all can find something to celebrate however tough your journey.
