A run in company

Our youngest son is home from uni for a few days and said he'd like to join us on our run. This is unheard of. He's always been a great walker but running? I reassured him that I run very slowly so all he needs to do is walk at his usual pace and we'll all be fine, I can trot along beside him.

We were lucky that this morning was dry, though overcast, and the three of us - husband, son and me - set off just before 9.00. We walked to the path across the fields. Son took off and within no time was way ahead. I urged my husband to go and join him while I plodded on at my own preferred pace ie nowhere near that fast.

It soon became apparent that son was not going to be walking anywhere and the two of them were by now way disappearing into the distance.

At around 2km the path turns alongside the seawall for the final km before home. I saw my husband miles ahead on the wall above me. Where was my son? Nowhere in sight.

When I got home I discovered that our son was the first one home and was already in the shower when my husband arrived. So much for a nice sociable family run, if you look at the picture you may just be able to make the others out, waaaaay ahead of me 😂

Oh to be 22 and long legged!

Yes I can see them in the distance on that photo, perhaps your son does do a bit of running that you wern't aware of, apart from that I hope you enjoyed your run today.

He said he's been going to the gym but using the exercise bike. Maybe I should try that 😂

Yes you could, going to the gym and using a exercise bike will help most people with their running.

Ah them were the days 😁. I am very short but my son is very tall. He doesn’t run at all though, sadly. Neither does my husband come to that 😁

When this son was a teenager we'd go for a long walk over the fields (where I now run) almost every day after school. I'd heard it was good for teenagers to exercise and we'd put the world to rights and I'd get to hear about his day ❤ . It used to seem such a long way but now that route is my 'short' run. He walks a lot further too by all accounts!
