Hello Everyone and happy weekend. Today is parkrun day, a free 5K event which takes place every Saturday morning all around the world. It is for everyone, slow, fast, able, disabled, big, small and everyone in between. Oh and don't forget about the super Mum's and Dad's who push their babies in buggies. You can walk, jog, run, run/walk, it's not a race, just a run in the park and loads of us here on Bridge to 10K do it religiously every Saturday morning.
Some of us may not be able to do a parkrun at the moment so until parkrun returns fully for everyone some of us will continue to take part on our own in a Virtual parkrun every Saturday morning called a (not)parkrun. Or if you are away on Holidays, prefer to run on your own, or do not have a parkrun close by you a (not)parkrun is perfect, please feel free to join in. Please post a little run report after your parkrun or (not)parkrun and let everyone know how you got on. The little run report can be done over a post parkrun coffee and treat/cake. (parkrun is all about the after run coffee and cake, and meeting friends old and new).
If you are a new graduate and would like to start, all you have to do is run, walk or jog at a parkrun or a 5K run/jog/walk (not)parkrun anytime today or tomorrow and write a little run report under this post. It's like a little community and it is good fun, sets you up nicely for the weekend. If you want to you can register on the parkrun website and you can log your 5K (not)parkrun. In fact you can log any 5K done during the week as a (not)parkrun.
For anyone whom has not done a real parkrun yet and if it is available to you, give it a try. It is the most wonderful community event. Saturday mornings will never be the same again.
Looking forward to hearing from all of you who ran in real proper parkruns and (not)parkruns. Happy running and have a lovely weekend

Good morning everyone. I have not ran in a couple of weeks. This morning I pushed myself out the door to do parkrun number 151, which I did at my local parkrun with Ruby. It was going to be run/walk as it will be for a few weeks until I build back up my fitness again. My goal was to do it in around 37 minutes. My finish time was 37:03. I aim to do it in under 37 mins next week. Ruby loved it as did I, you never regret doing a parkrun. Happy running everyone.
That's a good time after a break damienair 😁 the weather beat us this morning, I was going to walk it with daughter and granddaughter took one look out the window and decided not. I'm back to running from next Thursday so am sure I'll soon be back at parkrun. Enjoy the rest of your weekend
Oh Damien, similar situation. I hadn’t run at all for 2 weeks. I was eating rubbish, felt rubbish, didn’t exercise didn’t even feel able to volunteer. But I managed to get back on track, prepped my run stuff - neat & ready to go, didn’t charge my watch though.
Today was a very wet morning, the course was muddy & slippery. No watch so my pacing was all over the place, tried to spot a “nemisis” to help me over the course but the rain probably kept a few away. I came 163rd. Typically I’m in the 200s . Time 37.40 today. Just glad to get out there.
Discovery: “Fizz Runner” on YouTube is a newish run channel I found he’s a sub 20 min 5k runner, a physiotherapist & he has filmed a bunch of South East London parkruns. Super helpful to preview the courses…
Hi Damienair. Did my first ever parkrun ever at Roding Valley today yessssssssss!!!! It was quite funny as the director at 9am counted down from 5...4...3 ....2 and then on 1 the skies opened with a massive deluge which got steadily worse and worse and worse still over the next 20 mins hahahaha. The course is half path half grass and the grassy bit was like running in quicksand. My calf muscles nearly completely gave up the ghost. Anyway it stopped raining of course about 5 mins from the finish but I am glad to say I made it...I was so pleased with myself as the conditions were so unbelievable. I was literally dripping head to toe hahahaha. So I finished with a time of 34:27 which I was over the moon about in those conditions, and I will be there again next week. The weather can't get any worse...famous last words....
Fantastic. Huge congratulations and very well done. That is a great finish time for your first parkrun. The parkrun fairies must have been in Ireland this week. It was a lovely sunny morning here, for a change. 😀
Only hubby at park run today. I’ve been trying to up my distance & don’t think I will have it in me to run park run for a couple of weeks. I’ll be back soon.
No run here either RW. The trail was soaking wet and the wind had deposited heaps of leaves and twigs on top of the mud. One fall this year is enough thanks!!🙂
Hi BC, a lot of parkruns cancelled today because of trees down or flooding, the parkrun I ran at this morning wasn't too bad with no trees down and only a few puddles
Where I live in Central Scotland has missed the worst of the weather, just ordinary rain, a bit windy yesterday, the east wind this morning was only a light breeze with light rain, not much, the light rain went off about 1 Kilometre into my run this morning and belief it or not the sun came out around 11.30am, it's been dry since with a few sunny intervals,.
For some strange reason we decided to run parkrun today! Stratford, like many others, was cancelled yesterday afternoon after we did a course check. Just as well as it was even worse today. So off we went to Coventry to get our penultimate Pirates challenge letter - just an ‘R’ to get now. Of course it rained, so it was feeling a bit miserable, but we bumped into lots of people we knew both from our parkrun, my club and my work which made it feel a bit warmer.
The course is in the Memorial Park which is a lovely big park to the south of the city. It is 2 laps all on tarmac and a bit undulating, not too hilly but a few inclines. I came in just over 30 minutes. I felt like I was going quicker but I’m still recovering from the marathon and, even though my legs feel fine, my lungs are still quite tired. I do prefer running in this miserable weather as the air is much nicer even though it’s…well…miserable!
Hello TC, well done on your parkrun this morning and massive congratulations to you on your sub 5 hour marathon. I just seen it on Strava this morning. Amazing running.
Firstly I hope everyone in Babet’s path is safe. ❤️
Couldn’t face Eastville today so Jenny and I headed to Clevedon Salthouse Fields (separately). Mild and windy and it was hard work. My legs are fine after the GSR and I did a club run on Thursday, but the wind was just in the worst direction! Only 3 little inclines at Clevedon, but it’s a 3 lapper and guess which direction the wind was coming from. 😩
An ok 37:53 (37:41 Garmin - slow start and ground to a halt on first bottle neck turn). Jen came in just under 30 minutes. We both agreed it was hard which warranted a lovely hot coffee. 😋 I then walked Flossie up to the pier and back - after she’d rolled on the muddy grass! She’d been snoozing in the car. 🐕🥰
I know it's not possible, but it would be lovely if Flossie met my neighbours dog Holly, she is so friendly, (that's the dog I take a walk each day at 2pm.) both dogs tails would be wagging full blast, although Holly is almost 4 years old, my neighbour still calls Holly "my baby girl"😊
Oh mucky girl! So a bath afterwards for Floss as well as a shower for you cheeky? That run seems a bit of a slog, well done getting it done and a well deserved coffee 👍
Good afternoon Damien, after my mid week half marathon and for my 99th parkrun this morning I went to Palacerigg Country Parkrun not too far from where I live, the weather was cloudy, rather cold with light rain 7C, I went to the back of the 46 running this morning, I was thinking of 🚶 walking with the tailwalker as a I have been the tailwalker at Palacerigg 3 times but I did run in a time of 36:12, my slowest parkrun time ever apart from being the tailwalker, so next week number 100 at my ".home" parkrun at Dunfermline.
Very well done Al on your Half Marathon during the week and on your parkrun today. So looking forward to hear all about your brilliant milestone 100th parkrun next weekend.
I was determined for my mid week run JP to get a sub 35 minute 5K, so on Wednesday I ran what was my 172nd (not ) parkrun in a time of 33:59 around my usual 5K course near to where I live.
I certainly am. Every Monday at the ukulele club plus other singarounds a couple of times each month.Next week we will play Spookulele at Foodie Friday, all dressed up for Halloween - always a fun gig
Yes Jools 2020, most of my mid week 5K runs, usually (not ) parkruns are around 35/36 minutes which are a little slower than my Saturday morning parkruns, next Wednesday I'll set my metromone app at a higher pace to make sure that I get a sub 35 minute 5K.
I certainly will Dexy, I told the RD when I ran my 25 and 50 milestone runs at Dunfermline parkrun, next week I know the RD knows me by my first name, when I get there I will tell her that this is my 100th parkrun 💯
On this rainy Saturday morning, I went to Kew Gardens with a friend, so I took the opportunity to do the local Old Deer parkrun and tick off the O from my Alphabet challenge.
I think this was the first parkrun I’ve done where it rained the whole time, so I had my rain jacket on me. It was also 99% on grass and because I knew it’d be wet, I brought my trail shoes. Don’t know if it was because of the shoes or the rain, but running on grass actually felt nicer than before.
Well done Diogo. Running in the rain is always tough. But getting out of bed and getting to the car park is the hardest part. When your out in it, your wet. But never regret it.
UpTheStanley is in Paris for the rugby with mr Coddfish so no cup of tea in bed for me today. I also hit the snooze button and fell asleep again so it all ended a bit of a rush as I said I’d take Oldgirlruns up in the car and she was volunteering . But got there in The end wearing my Great South Run T-shirt along with many others. Rain showers before and after but ran with my jacket round my waist. Because I was helping with runner control before the start I forgot to start my GPS, so I’d run 20 metres before it clicked in. Doh!
My first time running the new course instead of volunteering and it went well. In fact my best time since May. Running 10 miles obviously didn’t harm me.
ps I should add 33:29 , 1st in age category and 62.42% age grade score. Very chuffed.
Good run for you today Dexy5, how do you find the new course compared to the old one?, good luck for 🏴 England at tonight's World Rugby Cup semi final with South Africa in Paris, I'll be watching the match on TV.
I quite like that you get to see people more than once AlMorr , now that is not just an out and back. Also by having a long narrow start funnel, with faster runners at front it’s quicker to cross the start line. Numbers are slightly down at the moment with the forecast weather , but better as a result .
Yes when I did a practice run mid week while UTS was creating it, it seemed much longer than running with others today. I wore my new shoes by mistake too, that may have helped.
Very well done Dexy on your parkrun this morning and on your best time since May. I'll be watching the Rugby later and will also be cheering for my Neighbours, England. South Africa are a tough team to beat and I'll be cheering for England. Best of luck. Hope UTS enjoys the atmosphere in Paris.
No parkrun for me today as I was dropping Mrs JP at the station. Looking forward to my first post-op run on Wednesday, so it will be a walk/run parkrun next week!😀
Enjoy your post op run on Wednesday. I'm walking and running too. So your in good company. I'm aiming at getting back to sub 30 again. But it will take time.
We didn't plan to run today as we had to help set up for an AGM and I can't run fast enough to finish in time.So we put our names down for Event Set Up and First Timers Welcome but we were really not looking forward to an early start in the weather that was forecast (90% double raindrops) . I had just put a change of clothing ready to take when we heard that it was cancelled because the river was dangerously high and more heavy rain forecast overnight plus some branches down on the paths.
We cancelled our early alarm with relief, although Geoff forgot to cancel his regular 7.15 parkrun alarm! But at least we didn't have to leap out of bed straight away.
On the way home from the AGM we walked the junior parkrun course to check that is is safe for tomorrow. It doesn't go near the river so is ok
It was really strange. I can't remember when we last missed a parkrun (either running or volunteering). Even in Lanzarote we run with Lanza Road Runners - that was our (not) parkrun long before they became official because they start at 9am.
GTFC and I did Roundhay parkrun in Leeds today en route to Warrington! It was beautiful but quite hilly! We also were lucky enough to have missed the storm!
I was checking the cancellations page this morning. Nope! Chadderton was still not on it.
So I kitted up, packed up my bits and bobs, and set out in the damp but mild morning.
Lots of local parkruns were cancelled, including the big one at Heaton Park (but not for weather reasons). As a result we had a boost in numbers, from the usual 60-70, to 128.
As usual, I stayed near the back at the start and chatted with a few of the regulars. One was doing his 100th today. I think the RD announced it, but we were so far back we couldn't hear anything over the barking of the solo tailwalker's dog.
And we were off. The usual fast starts from those not familiar with the course, and a fair bit of bunching when the route narrowed. I gradually moved up the field on the uphill sections.
I was lapped midway through the second lap. That guy didn't have a barcode, so we don't know how fast he was.
The course was muddy in places and slippery where there was moss in the tarmac. We even had a foot wash puddle which many people (including myself) avoided.
I'd not run since Tuesday due to various factors, including the stormy rainfall during the week. I was feeling quite drained by the end of the final lap.
I was just glad to finish!
At the end I didn't hang around as long as usual. I had stuff to do.
Top the car's tank up, get stuff from Lidl (including a dozen doughnuts), then get to the church hall to fetch lighting and sound kit down from the loft there for the production we'll be doing next weekend. The doughnuts were for the people who were helping build the stage. Then some techie stuff: the lighting control software (using a USB DMX dongle) which I'd written a few weeks ago actually worked.
Home after doing that, change out of my kit, grab a bacon butty, get cables, microphones and other stuff out of my loft, then back out to the church hall to set up the lights and mikes. I was still not finished with that at 6pm, but decided to go home and resume another day.
For those who are interested, my time today was 30:11, and I finished in position 62 out of 128, in a different age category to last week.
Happy Birthday last week nowster and well done for squeezing a parkrun into a busy schedule. I'm interested in age gradings rather than times. Why? Because a 30 minute 5K run by someone who is 75 is way more impressive than a 30 minute 5K run by a 25 year-old. Did your age grading improve this week after moving into a different category?
Nice work nowster. Your stats tell of steady improvement from July through to October on the Chadderton Hall parkrun. I love these results sheets! And it's just SO helpful the way you can sort the results with the little arrowheads at the top of each list. I tend to sort according to Event so I can easily compare my times for a particular location, or, I sort by Age Grade. I am going to set a 1% Age Grade improvement goal for the year ahead. Do you have a running goal for the year ahead nowster?
G’day from Sydney 🇦🇺 I thought I might have been in with a chance of replying first to this week’s post but, after a full day sightseeing yesterday, I was asleep by the time this appeared. Anyway, after 22 hours cramped in economy and 36 hours after we left home, we landed at Sydney on Friday lunchtime to a beautiful blue sky and 25c. Checked in to the hotel, freshened up and went out for a walk around the Harbour to stretch the legs. Spotted Happy Hour (3.00-6.00pm) so had a couple of beers, then decided we were hungry so ordered some food. After that the jet lag caught up with us and we went back to the hotel and had crashed out by 8.00pm. That meant of course that I was wide awake at 4.00am and my fears of missing parkrun at 8.00 seemed rather silly😂 North Sydney parkrun was 10 minutes away by bus (I got to go over the bridge 😁😁😁) and is 3 laps of St Leonard’s Park, skirting the North Sydney Oval. On arrival I chatted to some other Brit tourists and a neonatal nurse from Melbourne, who’s here for a conference. Both the token distributors were expats too! After the briefing, we were off, but with stiff hips from all the travelling, jet lag and undoubted dehydration, together with 20c + temperature, it was never going to be quick. 37.01 with walking breaks, but I got my alphabet ‘n’, ‘north’ for the compass and my 3rd country for World Tourist, so speed is not everything. Fingal Bay at Port Stephens next week! Happy running everyone!
Whoop whoop, how wonderful to run across Sydney Harbour Bridge. It doesn’t matter what time you did it in Sandie, you got out and did it! Have a wonderful time and we will look forward to next week’s instalment of Sandie Down Under.
Last week I did my first park run and it gave me the confidence and motivation to push my regular run up to 5k. I've been hovering on the 30 minute mark for a while so going to 33/34 minutes doesn't feel like too much of a stretch.
