Hello Everyone and happy weekend. Today is parkrun day, a free 5K event which takes place every Saturday morning all around the world. It is for everyone, slow, fast, able, disabled, big, small and everyone in between. Oh and don't forget about the super Mum's and Dad's who push their babies in buggies. You can walk, jog, run, run/walk, it's not a race, just a run in the park and loads of us here on Bridge to 10K do it religiously every Saturday morning.
Some of us may not be able to do a parkrun at the moment so until parkrun returns fully for everyone some of us will continue to take part on our own in a Virtual parkrun every Saturday morning called a (not)parkrun. Or if you are away on Holidays, prefer to run on your own, or do not have a parkrun close by you a (not)parkrun is perfect, please feel free to join in. Please post a little run report after your parkrun or (not)parkrun and let everyone know how you got on. The little run report can be done over a post parkrun coffee and treat/cake. (parkrun is all about the after run coffee and cake, and meeting friends old and new).
If you are a new graduate and would like to start, all you have to do is run, walk or jog at a parkrun or a 5K run/jog/walk (not)parkrun anytime today or tomorrow and write a little run report under this post. It's like a little community and it is good fun, sets you up nicely for the weekend. If you want to you can register on the parkrun website and you can log your 5K (not)parkrun. In fact you can log any 5K done during the week as a (not)parkrun.
For anyone whom has not done a real parkrun yet and if it is available to you, give it a try. It is the most wonderful community event. Saturday mornings will never be the same again.
Looking forward to hearing from all of you who ran in real proper parkruns and (not)parkruns. Happy running and have a lovely weekend

Hello everyone. This morning I was volunteering as Timer. I volunteered at a neighbouring parkrun, and it was so lovely to meet new people. Next week will be parkrun number 150 for me. Happy running everyone.
Hi Damien, I volunteered for the first time today. (I paused my Parkrun run at 5 - just felt I needed a break this week, did zero training in the week).
I was a Marshal, so cheering runners & walkers on, just super nice to see all the energy, the dogs are great fun too. Everyone knew where they were going, caught with some old friends. Feel as happy supporting my local parkrun as doing it.
Good morning Damienair, I was disappointed not to go to Southampton but will go once cataracts have been removed. Went to Worthing with daughter and granddaughter and we met us with some of daughters colleagues. I'm a bit of a twit and went the wrong way round the funnel so had to run back again which meant no PB but it was fun and I enjoyed it. Daughter and granddaughter walked, it's their second one and they knocked ,6 minutes off last week
It was good thanks, daughter works at the hospital and said among the people coming back past, the fast ones she recognised loads of doctors and surgeons, I can see us going to Worthing more
Hello Damienair, it was Southsea parkrun’s 10th birthday today, and the last run in our current location for a few years. This meant our highest number of runners since Jan 2020 (572)! Lots were wearing milestone shirts, or party gear. We had balloons and celebrations chocolates in exchange for a finish token.
I started running but have got a bit of a knee niggle so I decided to wait for Oldgirlruns and we ran/walked it together .
Breakfast Al fresco with Mr & Mrs Coddfish and UpTheStanley who had been extremely busy funnel managing with at least 10 funnel changes.
Wow, all change from next week then Dexy? I wonder how that will feel? A onesie for the inaugural run on the new route maybe. I might know of one you might like …… 🐘😅
First PR for a few weeks. As our weekend plans were scuppered because of Covid I took the opportunity to do a PR instead. I just took Coach Bennett (NRC 5k) and no music today and decided to ignore everyone else around me and just do my own thing. It was fine and cool- just right. I took on board everything I learnt from my recent NRC treadmill runs, started slowly and was amazed to find my body just relaxed into it (after the first toxic 10 of course!). Still not fast but my stride lengthened and I kept up a reasonable pace with just 2 very short walks, all the way. Haven't got my time yet but not really bothered - I did it and that's the main thing. 😊
Good afternoon Damien, 51.57 was the time I walked as the tailwalker for my 98th parkrun at nearby Palacerigg Country Parkrun this morning, it could have been 5 minutes faster if it hadn't been for a darned countryside gate on the course that the countryside commission insists must be closed, this gate has a code number so me and the last runner who is a regular at Palacerigg struggled to get the correct code to shut the gate, we managed it but it took 5 minutes to close the gate properly.
So #98 today, next week #99 as a runner at Drumpellier Parkrun, no run the following week because I am getting my annual flu jab AND another booster shot for Covid-19, on the 21st October it will be parkrun # 100 for me at Dunfermline parkrun.
Well done for persisting in getting that gate locked AlMorr . We are very grateful to our landlords, so important to do as they ask. Counting down to 100 now…
PS Dexy5, a very happy 10th birthday to Southsea parkrun, wow, 572 running, the parkrun I was at today there were only 57 running, jogging and walking. I meant to tell you that yesterday I reran run 2 of week 9 of C25K at the exact place I ran it in 2018, I ran it starting at 9am.
At 9.15 I was about 100 metres further as I was in 2018 when I turned and when I finished at 9.30 I was about 40 metres further than 2018 despite a hill on the return run, which means I certainly ran a bit faster yesterday than in June 2018, good luck for your new running route from next week.
Marshall station number 7 for Flossie and I at Eastville today. Our favourite as it’s fun shouting encouraging things to people coming up from the lake, or to marvel at the ones who don’t miss a beat and fly on up like it’s nothing (it’s something, believe me!)
Took Flossie for a walk round the park afterwards and encountered our resident heron. He’s a handsome fellow (maybe a lady heron, who knows!) and I was able to get close for a photo before he/she took flight. 🥰
Well done Cheeky for volunteering. I messed up my timer duty yesterday. A rain drop hit the button and added an extra runner and a dad crossed the line a second time with his Son. Aaaarrrgggghhh. But thankfully the other timer realised in time and his Timer was spot on. So they used that one.
this is Milo, he is 2 years old and his legs are just 2 inches long. He was a tourist at Stratford Parkrun today and not only overtook me but lapped me as well. He is super cute and incredibly fast!!
He was an amazing doggie! It just shows you, it’s not the length of your legs that matters, it’s what you do with them! (Charlotte Purdue comes to mind - my 5’0” hero who’s just recorded the 2nd fastest British marathon time)
Race day at Market Rasen today so I headed into town to Yarborough. I am still suffering pain from my piriformis and hadn’t run since I pulled up during a club session on Monday, so set off steadily. This week I didn’t have to walk and finished in 34.12, two seconds faster than last week. However I recorded 5.11km, compared with 5.00 last week, so I actually improved my pace from 6.49 to 6.41 per km.
When the results came out there were an awful lot of first timers - 83 out of 182 runners 😳 After their parkrun alphabet “y”?
Parkrun #74 for me and I was back in East Anglia at the Sandringham parkrun. Today they celebrated the 100th parkrun at Sandringham and there was a huge cake to share with everyone. A great morning and Sandringham is a wonderful venue. Thanks to everyone who has volunteered and made parkrun happen there!
Wow that’s a cool looking cake. Well done to you on your parkrun too. The run director at the parkrun I was yesterday brought a box of pears 🍐 from her own tree. She also baked pear and ginger brownies. They were super yum.
Bit late today but I’ve been enjoying the first bit of down time I’ve had in weeks!
Katnap and I were Run Directors today. It’s been a bit of a frustrating week as no one has been volunteering. We did start off with a reasonable roster but the empty slots remained empty (despite our best efforts) until I sent a pleading email off Friday morning…then we were literally inundated! We had so many marshals I was able to double up on some positions and even had contingency plans if certain youngsters didn’t turn up! It was great, but it would have been better for my nerves (and my juggling Friday’s work vs parkrun commitments) if they’d have come forward a bit earlier. Still, I don’t want to look a gift horse in the mouth (strange phrase…)!
So we had a lovely event today. 387 runners, numbers are definitely creeping up. The weather was ideal PB conditions and one of our fellow RDs got the sub 21 minute PB he’s been chasing for years! Lots of happy first timers too, which is always very heartening to see.
Eldest kitten has been asked if he’d like to try doing Run Directing as well now. We are quite short of RDs at the moment, with a few moving on to other things, and he definitely has the enthusiasm for it. He’s off promoting parkrun volunteering at his old school on Tuesday - he might not be too keen on running but he’s becoming a great ambassador for the cause.
Have a great runny week everyone, we’re hoping to actually be able to run the next two parkrun Saturdays!! 🥳
Chasing for volunteers seems to be a problem for all events. Maybe people will be inspired by the new parkrun magazine. Great that eldest kitten can step up to be RD. We’ve got 8 RDs now!
It sure is Dexy. Yes, I’ve been enjoying the volunteering articles in that as well. Eldest kitten is going to be giving them out at the volunteer event. We must have a similar number to you, but it’s like any other volunteer role isn’t it?
Today I went to Clapham Common again to celebrate my friend's 25th parkrun.
It was a record week in Clapham, which has firmly established itself as one of the busiest parkruns in the UK. Today we had 950 runners. They all passed me by as I took it veeeeery slowly while still recovering from overused quads. I feel a lot better and will probably get back to my 3 weekly runs next week.
We then went back to my friend's place for a well deserved brunch.
Hi Damien 7th Park run in a row for me at Macclesfield. Loving the atmosphere and slowly improving my time. You’ve inspired me to give back and put my name down to volunteer.
Very well done. Yes it is nice to give back and Volunteer. If you even did it once every 8-10 runs I’m sure you’ll be perfect. Plus it’s a lovely way to get to know the other parkrunners.
Late again!Back at our home run yesterday for a pacer day.
I ran with the 36 minute pacer for over 4km but then fell a bit behind. But I did get my best time at Marple since May 2019. I have had better times elsewhere but as some of you know we have a grassy, sometimes muddy course. Not so muddy yesterday but the grass was quite long and wet.
Today I was RD at juniors which went well and the threatened heavy rain held off until I got home.
Off to Talkin Tarn next week. We did it in June but our friends want to do it before we spend a few days at Hadrians Wall.
It is a very nice parkrun, with a good breakfast bap !
