whooooooshhhh!!! Where is September going?? It seems to have flown by & we’re on week 3 already!!
I was impressed with everyone’s goals for the week last week…I only managed 1 run..and THAT WAS IT!!! 1 run!! That’s not going to get me into shape for my cruise is it?!!!
This morning I managed W2r1…it was cool & drizzly, my idea of perfect running weather..if the weather stays like this I am def on track for my 3 runs a week goal so fingers crossed….
How’s it going for all of you? Are you on track? Did you manage your goals last week and maybe add on some extra ones?? You are all wonderful questers…I have loved reading all about what you’re up to so let’s push on towards the end of the month 💪
What is the Quest?
The aim of the Quest is to help you find a focus or a goal that you would like to achieve by the end of the Quest period.
The Quest takes one calendar month. You can join at any point during September.
⭐️ Sometimes when we commit to something publicly, it’s the start of an achievement.
You need, please, to be a C25K Graduate before joining the Quest.
The reason for this is that pre-graduation your week is very much structured according to the C25K programme, and we wouldn't want the Quest to interfere with that.
Most popular goals are:
⭐️ To run three times a week
⭐️ To slowly increase distance
⭐️ To train for a specific race
⭐️To add strength and flex exercises to your weekly routine.
This is a personal challenge, so it's completely up to you!
You may want to begin by reading the pinned post about Consolidation for some ideas to help you find a goal
If you want to join, all you have to do is comment below with something like:
“I would like to join the quest”, or, “MummyCav count me in! I would like to...”
So please come and join us…it doesn’t matter when in September you come on board just jump in & let’s keep cheering each other on!
Happy running

Hi mummycav, well done on your run and here's to more this week now the weather is more conducive!
I spent several days last week on the sick couch with a migraine, so everything went out the window. Built back up gently over the weekend getting my walking steps up and had a run on our new treadmill this morning for 20 minutes.
This week I'm keeping it simple, some easy runs and a long run at the weekend. Back to the plan next week as I'm not convinced a speed run this week is what I need.
And keeping up the 11000 steps per day again.
If I fit in any other strength/flex that will be a bonus!
Do you think it’s the weather? I’ve had more migraines of late. Stormy seems to set them off. Really hope it’s a migraine free week for you!
New treadmill sounds super exciting. On an evening like it is here tonight, I wish we had space for one. It would probably mean evicting the guinea pigs…
I think the weather had a lot to do with it - I really struggled during the heatwave as even with air conditioning it was impossible to keep the house and particularly bedroom cool. I didn't sleep well and didn't help myself with some self-inflicted late nights and early starts! I should know better because lack of sleep is definitely one of my triggers.
The treadmill is really welcome - a bit late for the hot days, but is super helpful for getting our steps in at the end of the day and for running in poor weather. I've only run on it once so far and it seemed so much faster than outside - the indicated pace was something like 12 minutes per km whereas my usual easy pace is around 8 mins/km. Yet my cadence was much lower and I'm guessing my stride length too - I reckon I need a few more runs on it to get a decent rhythm back.
Hope the cooler fresher weather is give you some relief.
Thank you-I’ve been migraine free but it turns out I now have covid. Found out when I tested before meeting a vulnerable friend. Luckily it’s just a bit of a sore throat and tiredness so I’ll take it a bit easier and see how it goes. Im so glad it’s cooler now.
Good luck with the treadmill. It’s interesting that my knee pain is often triggered by running on one so I think I haven’t mastered getting my stride and cadence right either. Here’s hoping we both get there with a bit of perseverance!
Oh no that's no good. Hope you aren't feeling too bad with it and get shot of it quickly.
Second run on the treadmill as much better, kept steadily at my normal easy pace for 22 minutes and it felt a lot better, so just a case of getting used to it!
Hi Mummycav. Well like you I only managed one run and it wasn’t that long. Also I forgot about last weeks quest. So I’m mighty accountable for that.Apologies!
So my quest for this week is to:
Complete my London vitality virtual 10K tomorrow morning along with Hedgehogs123 virtually of course.
My plan is to try to build up my running frequency again. I was a little under the weather last week: nothing obvious, but I was definitely fighting off some nasty. I also pulled something in my left hamstring area which is why I only ran on Tuesday and Friday (and Sunday evening) last week.
This evening I'd just finished my warm up walk when I had to shelter under an overgrown hedge from a sudden cloudburst. Once it passed I resumed the run.
And the weather forecast for tomorrow (attached) doesn't look good at all!
A dismal weather forecast chart: moderate to heavy rain all day.
Hope your hamstring injury heals quick, frustrating isn't it, these blinking injuries! 😞 Yep weather not looking good at all. Myself and Folkylass are both doing our London 10km Vitality run in the morning, so I reckon my waterproof may be coming on the run with me! ⛈️⛈️
I did get out this evening and ran 5km. I did a run where I kept to the same perceived effort, and did actually feel the benefit of that approach. I felt at the end of the distance that I was nowhere near spent and could have gone on further.
Thank for another great post. I love the slogan in the picture. So right! In a similar vein, on twitter tonight, I’ve seen “Consistency trumps perfection” when it comes to sustainable success from Steve Magness who wrote a brilliant book about mental toughness. I’m putting that on my fridge. It sounds like your couch to 5k rerun is working really well for you. Long may that continue!
I’ve had another good week. Looking back on my goals, I’ve achieved all of them again.
Three consistent, enjoyable runs a week
I’ve done four runs and mostly enjoyed them all! The weather has still been hotter than expected and I’ve steamed up my own glasses more than once. Top run was 7k with speedy intervals in the middle. Super hard but I loved it. Three more runs to come this week too.
Two (ideally three) strength and flex sessions
I did two good strength sessions and two Pilates classes. I’d wanted to swim but that didn’t happen. Maybe this will be the week!
Use the dreaded massage ball!
Just one time and only short. It is horrible. It is still good for me though.
Hahahaha…dreaded massage ball!!! Ohhhh, you are a glutton for punishment!!! Good luck with it all though…I’ve been out his evening and I LOVE LOVE LOVE evening running…made everyone’s tea and off I went…park Choi and noodles for my treat afterwards…good luck with the rest of the week x
Go you for that evening run! I’ve got a new head torch and I’m wanting to try it out. I really like it when the sun is going down-we often see bats and I saw an owl last night on a walk. Super treat for afterwards too…send some my way! Have a super week of questing xxx
Hi, well I'm a bit late to the party, but my quest is simple, to get to the end of Sept without worrying about falling and to be more patient and focus on, as your post says, a little progress each day, does indeed add up to big results (, eventually) and I will get back to where I was before! 🤞
🍏Thank you for this great Slogan to keep us questing Mummycav and glad it’s getting you further towards that cruise!!
Last week I had 3 great runs but have had to amend my plan of getting to my longer term goal of running a 5K race.
I have opted out of my original NRC plan & have started another similar one, but for beginners. (This is due to being diagnosed with TGN and medication) The reason why I love your slogan!!!
So this week I will continue with my NRC runs, chair based exercise class and Pilates
every little thing gets you there..you are doing so well listening to your body and that’s what it’s all about…no point taking bigger steps than you’re capable of and ending up taking 20 steps back…keep up the good work Annieapple …and see if you can make this saying your mantra for this week x
Hello! You did a run... that is a win! each run builds on the one before and you begin, ever so gently to feel stronger.
I am a much more contented snail.... I have finished Week 1 and 2 of my umpteeth repeat of C25K and began Week 3, Run 1 on Sunday! All the runs taken slowly and steadily , ( what else), and were strictly by Laura's book!
Eight days in Wales at our happy place helped!
* Running. The first runs felt ok, but as the C25K plan suggests, each run, building on the one before moves you on and ever so gently, you begin to feel stronger. My battles over the last weeks with anxiety added to the mix, ( some hip work ), and getting out for the first run was a nervous moment. But... I have a much better grip on the anxiety issues now and the running is now beginning to support my recovery there too!
Sunday's run was maybe, the first one where everything felt, normal... and it was a very happy run.
* Regular exercise for me continues. Daily simple, low impact routines. They work currently for me because I feel comfortable doing them, I am building up and adding bits and the fact is, what I have been doing, has meant that my legs, are strong, my core strength... ( well that needs a tad more work), and my breathing is steady.
* Yoga... a lot of YWA and breathing focused. Also some of her lower back work.
* Weight... eating more now, feeling hungrier and have managed to add a couple of lbs. on this week...
So... a positive week... a happy week and added to by the fact that Mr OF is feeling a lot happier in his recovery period!
Thank you Oldfloss …I am pleased that I am still on track for my three runs this week as I had my first evening run for yonks…
I am glad that you are feeling progress…what’s better than a happy run? Everything seems to be looking up for you…I’m glad…May it continue this week…I’m rooting for you, as always xx
Another latecomer Mummycav , thanks for doing this and good luck with your own Quest!
I've been away a lot recently and have lost the habit of consistency so your motivational quote is much needed.
This month's Quest for me: get back to running three times a week, with one of those runs being a speed run or Fartlek. I'd say that I want to include a longer run of at least 5km a week but I think I'm quite out of condition and the last 5k I did felt like hard work.
I had intended training for my local 10k at the beginning of October but (a) it's not realistic to progress that far in 3 weeks and (b) I'll probably be away on the day. Instead, I'll use the time to set myself a 10k goal for the winter.
Well done Yesletsgo …if 5k felt a bit hard, why not drop it to 4k for this week and maybe during the rest of this week and the beginning of next week work up to that 5k and finish September with a winning 5k that feels comfortable?? Then you could work up to the 10k over Oct as, like you say, it might be a bit much to get there by Oct?? You could always do a run/walk??? I’m sure you’re more than capable of that?? What ever you decide, this week, I’m sure, will see you on track for your goals x
Went for a run this morning, having barely moved from the chair for the last couple of days (work, work, work) and I was like a spring chicken! Did an interval run then carried on until I'd covered 5k!
Please Miss, does this mean I can do a recovery run on Saturday? 😂
Thank you so much… did my second run of the week this evening and it felt sooooo good!! So I just need a run either Fri or Sat & boom, I’ll have completed this weeks quest!!
You’re doing so well…we just have to set realistic goals don’t we?? And don’t stress if we have to adapt x
I will be going to Parkrun next Saturday, after I was persuaded to give it a go last week and did better than I expected, coming in at just over 43 minutes and in 429th place. So I now have a base line, and I feel more confident in actually getting there and finding somewhere to park, which I was concerned about (any excuse, I know!)
Haven’t managed to suss out the strength & fitness forum yet, but there’s still 10 days of the month left to get a grip on that.
That’s a very respectable time for your first parkrun BarbieW …you are better than me because I really do not like parkrun…I watch it from my window with my cup of tea & occasionally take part but it just reminds me how much I don’t like it!!! We’re all different aren’t we!!?!
Plenty of time to suss out what you want to fit in before the end of the month x
Many thanks for your post and for doing a great quest! I am about to warm up for my run and I agree I am so relieved that it is cooler. I have been running 3 times each week and doing standing Pilates and toning with weights on other days. Yesterday I found a good standing abs workout on YouTube that was great too! X
