I had reluctantly decided that it was still too wet to run all around the lake. So⦠I decided to run a slow 5K up the flat eastern side. I would run for just over 25 minutes, then turn round and come back.
Originally I was going to try for a zone 2/3 run, but my heartrate is still too high. So I just ran at a comfortable pace until the last couple of minutes. I tested the pace by talking to myself for a bit π€£. There were a few people around, a couple of other runners and cyclists - quite a few couples walking, with and without dogs. All greeted me. There were a number of large puddles from the recent rain, which I avoided!
The lake looked gorgeous this morning with the early morning mists. Itβs a real joy to run hereπAutumn is on the way; not that can remember much of a summer! The temperature up here in βt north is a few degrees cooler than in Berkshire. It was 9 degrees during my run. Thatβs only pretty much perfect for running! Shorts and tee shirt. Jacket for after the run was left in the car. (I get cold really quickly when Iβve finished running.)
Weather permitting, I hope to run again at the weekend; a 3K run this time. πππββοΈ

Strangely, I'm feeling the chill after a long weekend Dahn Sarf. My "thin tee shirt" temperature is about 12Β°C, and some of this week's runs have been getting close to that in the evening.
It only affects me at the start of a run and during the cool down walk.
Not sure what it was here this morning - 11ish degrees, maybe. But it felt cool and I ran (slowly) in running trews and a T-shirt. I did get warm but actually felt as though an extra layer would have been welcome ...
Funny - Iβm always complaining Iβm cold - but I was fine in shorts & short sleeved tee. Will soon need gloves, though! I get cold really quickly after Iβve finished running.
What a lovely photo When I get myself injury free I must try and have some more scenic runs.
You are doing so well being able to run for over 50 minutes.
I live in Moray and there's not been much nice weather at all. A couple of decent weeks early on and that's been it. We even had the heating on a few weeks back!
How did you get on at the physio this week? Mine has changed my exercises, I can now raise up on both feet but lower on the injured one so building that up with 2 days rest per week. Another week before I go back so hoping for more improvement. Hope yours is on the mend, we will get there. π
Hi RunningGirl, that sounds great what you are doing, it will make a huge difference. I had been feeling good enough to run and could hop ten times without pain. This was a week ago. So I ran intervals of a minute each and only did five before the soreness came back. Sorry if I have told you this already. Anyway the day after it was swollen around the tendon again. I thought I was having a major setback. I did my usual exercises the day after and it seemed to help. By the weekend I was feeling like I could run again, but I didn't and decided to wait till I saw my physio on Tuesday. The exercises I had been doing were the same as you are doing now. I was doing three repetitions of six. But I increased it to four as it was feeling good. I also did the same with my non injured leg as that really needed building up a bit too.
So at the physio, she manipulated my calf, stuck needles in my tendon. Then gave me more exercises to try. She said that these were the main thing and the massage and needles just help a little.
This week I am pushing up with both feet, then lowering on bad one twelve times. And I do three repetitions. So 36 on each foot. I asked her if I could do these twice a day in morning and afternoon (6 repetitions in total) and she said I could, but best to alternate days between three reps one day and six the next.
After just a couple of days ( and I am doing the reps on both ankles) my ankles and feet feel a lot stronger. I've noticed that I can push up and lower on just one leg now. But am sticking to what the physio said
She said in a fortnight to start doing the one legged heel rise and lower, and back to three sets of six. Then she said she is going to have me hopping and jumping around the week after that when I see her on the 19th September.
I hope all this makes sense to you but if you want me to clarify anything, it's no bother. It's nice to compare notes
When I get over this I will feel stronger than ever. I just can't wait to get running again!
Yes I understand, I think over the years I've done all of the exercises for both legs. I really should have calves like Jack Grealish which is what my physio says is the point! I'm doing 6 sets currently of 12 but I'm aiming for 20. Until I get to 20 I am also doing 10 with both legs using the 10 kg weight. To be honest I will do anything to get it sorted but I think it's still a few weeks away π
Getting our bodies ready for running is harder than actually running, isn't it! I should be fit as a fiddle after this time away from running. Today I did my first lot of physio exercises, did week 5 of NHS flex and strength, 10 minutes with dumbbells, and ten minutes doing the five Tibetan rites. Hoping to find time later to do some yoga too
I hope your exercises keep going well, you are doing lots more lifts than me at the moment. I'm hoping to run again after I next see the physio. When I do I will be starting right at the beginning of couch to 5k again. I'm looking forward to it!
Flippin eck, that's a lot of exercise, it should really help when you get back to running. I'm doing yoga twice a week and it's not as easier as you might think! Good luck to you too ππ
πSounds perfect to me.. fab distance, beautiful environment & perfect run weather. That photo with the beautiful reflections says everything!!! Well done Jools and enjoy the 3K too! π₯°πΈ
That looks stunning. What a beautiful place to run and, as you say, despite being cooler, thatβs a very good running temperature. Lovely run, well done. ππ
Kind of π Come up here every month or so to stay with my partner. Stayed for longer this time due to rail strikes interfering with my plans! It is indeed a lovely place to run π. Ran there again this morning!
