Hello Everyone and happy weekend. Today is parkrun day, a free 5K event which takes place every Saturday morning all around the world. It is for everyone, slow, fast, able, disabled, big, small and everyone in between. Oh and don't forget about the super Mum's and Dad's who push their babies in buggies. You can walk, jog, run, run/walk, it's not a race, just a run in the park and loads of us here on Bridge to 10K do it religiously every Saturday morning.
Some of us may not be able to do a parkrun at the moment so until parkrun returns fully for everyone some of us will continue to take part on our own in a Virtual parkrun every Saturday morning called a (not)parkrun. Or if you are away on Holidays, prefer to run on your own, or do not have a parkrun close by you a (not)parkrun is perfect, please feel free to join in. Please post a little run report after your parkrun or (not)parkrun and let everyone know how you got on. The little run report can be done over a post parkrun coffee and treat/cake. (parkrun is all about the after run coffee and cake, and meeting friends old and new).
If you are a new graduate and would like to start, all you have to do is run, walk or jog at a parkrun or a 5K run/jog/walk (not)parkrun anytime today or tomorrow and write a little run report under this post. It's like a little community and it is good fun, sets you up nicely for the weekend. If you want to you can register on the parkrun website and you can log your 5K (not)parkrun. In fact you can log any 5K done during the week as a (not)parkrun.
For anyone whom has not done a real parkrun yet and if it is available to you, give it a try. It is the most wonderful community event. Saturday mornings will never be the same again.
Looking forward to hearing from all of you who ran in real proper parkruns and (not)parkruns. Happy running and have a lovely weekend.

Good morning everyone. This morning I ran at my local parkrun. Had not been there in a few weeks. Smaller crowd this morning and thankfully the rain held off until I crossed the finish line. My aim this morning was to run in under 33 minutes. I failed, but not miserably failed. My finish time was 33:00 minutes on the button. I had to take 3 walking breaks. So goal for next week is to run more, walk less and aim for 32:30 or better and start working towards 30 minutes again. Hope everyone has a lovely weekend.
I was Marshalling at Lancing Beachgreen Parkrun's 5th Birthday, anyone finishing in under 40 minutes got back in the dry and then the rain came down, but with views like I had and people to clap and cheer on who would care?
Last time i marshalled it was near the end, this time about 1k from the end and i found it very interesting seeing the first few chasing good times then the moore relaxed runners folkowing on.
Yes I was at my local parkrun this morning and it is a 3 lap course. I was running at a 6:10 min/km pace at the time and was lapped by a young speedy guy 3/4 way through my first lap. 😁
My PR time was 47:25 at the one near my mum's yesterday. Under 47 minutes on my Garmin. I have been resting my calf injury for a week - maybe should not have gone but I still loved it.
Good afternoon Damien and all! I wasn’t going to run today because of Severn Bridge tomorrow but I changed my mind.
I haven’t run my home parkrun since June, although I do seem to have most of the local legends as I’ve been using the park for marathon training speed sessions!
So this was my 141st and I took it quite gently until the end when I stepped up a gear. 29:18 which I’m quite happy with considering .
Unfortunately I’ve got a sore achilles again at the moment and it wasn’t so happy, so I walked home in my socks as it’s being irritated by my Speed 3s. Might have to put these on ebay and find something else.
Thanks JP. It was the same after my run on Tuesday and then it calmed down again, so I’m hoping it will be ok 🤞 The backs on the Speed 3s are just too high and rigid.
I’ve just bought the Boston 12’s to replace my Speed 3’s. Superblast looks good but never seems to go on sale here in Australia so too expensive for me.
Superblasts are frighteningly expensive RW. They aren’t discounted here yet either. I was thinking Boston 12s but my friend doesn’t think much of them. I definitely need a visit to a shop methinks.
Good afternoon Damien, this morning I ran my 14th parkrun at Palacerigg parkrun,, #93 altogether in a time of 33:19, beautiful weather for running, it's the first time I knew what my time was just 1 minute after completing the run as I overheard the runner before me asking the timekeeper what his time was so I asked him as well, so next week I'll be tailwalker at Springburn parkrun and on Sunday for the first time I will run my first event 10K race at my local annual Cumbernauld 10k event, I now have the bib for it, I am number 212.
ha ha, you can tell you are a small parkrun AlMorr , no way could timekeepers tell you your time in Southsea with 400 runners. Stressful enough just pressing the app for each runner.
Yes Dexy I wouldn't normally ask but between me and the runner behind me there was a gap of 36 seconds, it was the runner in front of me by 27 seconds who asked the timekeeper what his time was so with that gap of 36 seconds I also asked, it's the first time in all my previous 92 runs that has happened, 68 running today at Palacerigg Country Parkrun is very small to the 405 at Southsea Parkrun, I certainly wouldn't ask if there had been that number where I ran this morning, by the way I have been promised CAKE and chocolate at the next two parkruns I attend, next week Springburn parkrun's 400th where I will be the tailwalker and in two weeks a delayed 1st birthday but Palacerigg 50th parkrun
Today was my 25th ParkRun and some friends got together to mark the occasion. We went to Crystal Palace parkrun, had breakfast and then went round to see the dinosaur sculptures in the park. 3 of us got PBs, even though there’s a slight hill in the park, so we were all chuffed about it. The 4th one didn’t cos he’s already fast enough 😜
Excellent, sounds like a perfect parkrun morning. Congratulations to you all on your PB’s and huge congratulations on your 25th milestone parkrun. And well done for celebrating with a post parkrun breakfast with friends too.
A lovely parkrun today at Ellon. The fourth time we have been here and it is always my fastest run of the year despite an uphill stretch for the last 0.5km.
35.09, the last time I beat this was October 2019 at Clevedon Salthouse.
We are staying with friends for a party barbecue so 9 of us went together to the parkrun and we were all pleased with our times today, including the first finisher who got a pb.
I claim some responsibility for these parkrunners because all except one started running either directly or indirectly because of me! I didn't know any other parkrunners when I started but one by one they all joined in, even though most of us don't live near each other.
I’m being royally told off by my legs for having a loosey goosey summer! Another snaily Eastville PR, almost identical in time to last week. It was so muggy - and I wasn’t expecting it to be. Ended up in a bit of a sweaty mess! (Sorry, TMI! 🥵)
Still felt good, and I’m assuming my legs will up their game tomorrow on the Severn Bridge! If not, l’ll be having words! 👮♀️
The usual jeffing this morning at Portsmouth Lakeside. The rain held off and it was a little cooler than the last few weeks - all leading to my best time (34.56) since you know what!
Talking of which, I had some good news this week - my hernia repair op has been scheduled for 27 September, 7 months after it first appeared. The end is in sight- let's hope it doesn't get cancelled! 🤞
Well done Jonathan and so delighted to hear that you finally have a date for your surgery. You'll be as right as rain and back to 30 mins at parkrun before you know it.
Trip to Mote Park in Maidstone this morning which is about an hour from home.
When researching this run, I had (wrongly) assumed it might be relatively flat. Erm no - when the first timers briefing mentioned inclines my heart sunk but it was too late to turn back 😁!
Anyway it really wasn’t that bad (and I think we will go back again one day). A beautiful venue by a boating lake, with lots of free parking, a newish cafe and decent loos.
Husband ran with me so made the inclines more bearable and saw me in at 36:27.
Several significant things today. It's my 78th parkrun. That's not hugely significant.
I'm in Cambridge this weekend and went to Coldham's Common this morning.
I met up with Curlygurly2 who was doing tail walking with the "Run 5k your own way" cancer group.
There was one guy there with a red waistcoat, red hat with yellow band, red furry leg warmers with rings of black and white at the ankles, and sporting a red fox tail with a black band and a white tip.
Coldham's Common is almost all grass. If you've been following my posts of the last couple of weeks this might not be a huge surprise: I did it barefoot.
Yep, my first ever parkrun whilst wearing nothing at all on my feet. Naked soles.
It was actually quite pleasant feeling the damp grass underfoot.
The funniest thing for me was when one of the marshals commented as I passed, "Oh, we've got another one!"
The course is very flat: two laps of a very squashed figure of eight. I found myself overtaking a lot of people who had peaked in the first lap. There were a couple of difficult bits due to gravel and fallen twigs.
I finished! I came in at position 102 of 237.
Having retrieved my shoes from the bag pile by the token buckets I then caught up with the tail walking group doing their second lap, to have a chat with our fellow forum member.
Part way round the walking lap I was approached by the other guy running barefoot who seems to be a regular there.
Afterwards I put on my shoes, and I joined the 5k your way group for a coffee and chat.
It wasn't until about 1pm that my time came through.
Wow, fantastic Nowster, huge congratulations to you on your brilliant PB. Excellent running whilst barefoot too. Amazing achievement. Delighted for you.
A big congratulations to you nowster on your PB running barefoot on grass at Coldham's Common parkrun, I might try and run barefoot at the all trail parkrun I was at this morning 🤣, only joking
And a good afternoon to all you running buddies out there. Today it was time for my first Parkrun, It was a choice of 2 different runs for me, Wyre Forest PR or Worcester Pitchcroft, well on is in hilly woodland and the other on a quite flat horse racing course, well I might be daft but not too daft, so I chose Worcester Race Course for my first one. I hoped to average about 9:00 km so set off with watch set to show pace per km, First glance showing 6:25, so wow back off a bit, anyhow managed to get pace settled between 8:30 and 9:00 per km, until just before the 4k mark, when one of the faster runners came back to run alongside me to help me on and speed increased which did not help asthma, so to get breathing back under control I dropped to a walk for about 100 mtrs or so and then pushed for the couple of hundred meters to the finish. Totally amazed at final time, PB for the 5k, and the 2 mile, the 1 mile and the 0.5 mile, so really chuffed. Must remember to use inhaler next time.
Not bad for a first attempt, not last in age category, and not last male, I'll take this as a "Winning at Life".👍
Double congratulations to you on your first parkrun and your new 5K PB. Excellent job. I'm sure you'll be back to knock a few seconds off that time soon.
Hi everyone We were parkrun tourists today a Wallaceneuk parkrun on the Scottish Borders near Kelso! A long way from the Isle of Wight! It's was very rainy start, and it's a trail route out and back, Lots of splashing in puddles and a bit of mud! With a bit if an incline at the end!! . Only 40 of us there, nice and friendly!
Only my 6th run after 6 weeks out with my leg infection so I was pleased to run all the way😁
We now are driving the 400 miles home after our holiday
Good afternoon everyone! Still in France for another week so I headed out yesterday with the Eymet Runners for our regular Friday morning 5k. We have had temps touching 40c for most of the last week, but had a spectacular thunderstorm on Thursday night (not a lot of rain but with thunder and lightning which lasted for about 5 hours 😳). The temp had dropped to around 22 by the time we set off at 9.15 but it was surprisingly humid still. A gentle chatty run, followed by coffee and pastries set me up nicely for the day.
Stayed local today - Southampton parkrun where I got a pb for this course of 31:12. Some runs just go better than others for no obvious reason but I’m not complaining 😊. The sun shone the whole time which must have helped.
Somewhat late reply. We were staying in Richmond because of the rugby (the less said about the England match the better, plus Friday night, as a closet All Blacks fan, was also disappointing). Our hotel was 5 minutes walk from Old Deer Park, which we have completed before. It’s the quieter and easier of the two Richmond parkruns, the other being in Richmond Park.
As I have reported on a number of occasions, I am undergoing yet more treatment for cancer, and don’t have a good VO2 Max at the moment. Walking a fairly flat course is therefore ideal. ODP is very flat. It’s 3 laps of a council marked 1 mile circuit plus a little bit. A couple of days before attending, I had spotted they were missing a tailwalker, and thought that would suit my needs nicely. My volunteer offer was duly accepted.
I started out accompanying a 13 year old boy who had a strapped up foot following a holiday accident. He just wanted to complete one lap in around the time his dad finished 3 laps. We duly achieved that, after which I felt I had better try to catch up with the next slowest participant, who was by now quite a long way into the second lap. I managed to catch her up before she started the third lap. I also picked up Mr Coddfish, as he had already finished, so that he could collect the various temporary markers (the parkrun operates without any marshals, and I was using walking poles). So the three of us proceeded around lap 3.
About half way round the 3rd lap, I tripped (it’s a grass course). Falling forward, arms and poles flailing, i some how managed to keep up with and get underneath the momentum so that I didn’t fall. Part of my ‘save’ involved over stretching and jamming down the heel of the other leg. ‘Ouch’. Completed the course with a somewhat sore heel, which I then proceeded to walk on for the rest of the day.
So a somewhat eventful parkrun. Just 15 to go to my 250 now.
Very well done on your volunteer and parkrun stint. Hope your heel is not too sore afterwards. Wow, 250 countdown with just 15 to go, excellent. Best wishes on your treatment and wishing you every success, health and happiness.
