I figured I’d go for a 30 minute run this morning. I enjoyed the jogging home part so much last week that I thought I’d do it again! It means I’m working harder for the first part, especially for the last km and then I do what I really enjoy for a few kms, which is running slowly.
It’s chilly out first thing. All ready to go - front door locked, key in cuff - then I decide I need gloves so let myself in again! Ready to go Part 2. Nope, need the loo, so back in again. Ready to go Part 3. Forgot my mobile. Eventually, I’m satisfied with all the preparations and set out!
Huge difference in the air quality this morning, it feels great! I start running and have to immediately slow down, I’m running far too quickly. Once I sort out my pace I confirm to myself that it will be a 4K run, which takes me about 30 minutes. I’ll try improving pace with each km and go for a strong finish. I do exactly that and I’m pleased with my 4th km pace of 6:40. It was quite a workout for me and I’m out of breath, so I walk a little before starting a new run to jog home. I’m halfway down the Deadend Track and it’s quite windy. I notice that my new prescription sports glasses are protecting my eyes from this crosswind in a way that my normal glasses don’t! Very happy with the glasses which I will wear for cycling as well.
I enjoy my 3K jog home. I don’t look at my watch again, but on arriving home I see that it was faster than I thought. I expect this is because I was fully warmed up! Back home for stretches, water and banana. I’m now having a coffee and will get myself some porridge! 🏃♀️😎🥣
4K splits:
7:47, 7:21, 7:06, 6:40

Well done Jools. Great runs again. I’m not running at the moment get a sever allergic reaction from something so covered in a very red itchy rash 😢Hope this break won’t put me back to much.
Oh dear, Vinchie, I hope your rash goes soon. It’s a nuisance if you don’t know what you’re allergic to. I’m sure the break won’t put you back too much. Take care x
My sports glasses have varifocal lenses. They are more curved to fit around your head better and darken in the sunlight. Photochromic I think is the right word! They definitely keep the wind out more. They are also good for cycling, because with my normal glasses, when I am cycling and looking ahead, I’m looking over the top of them. With these, I’m not, so definitely safer if I can see where I’m going! 👍
Sounds like a great workout this morning Jools in this beautiful weather- and glasses problem solved too 😁 -I've worked out that I can get away with cheap readers perched on my head for when the need arises - great time for your 4k AND a bonus 3k jog home too 😁👍
That's a great run Jools2020, quick final klm obviously thinking of your porridge 😁..... I noticed you were in and out of the door a few times 👍 gloves, loo and the pesky phone, sounds familiar 🤦
They were! But partly because I had all the options - photochromic, anti scratch, anti glare, the fact that I wanted varifocal lenses pushed the price up, too. They were £243 including shipping. I got them online from Optilabs. Very pleased with them!
Wow, Jools2020, congratulations 🎉🎉excellent splits and great that you enjoyed it too. I’ve had similar times when I kept forgetting things before starting out and had to keep going back. Important to have all you need & make that all important loo trip! Best wishes for your running journey. 🏃🏽♀️🏃🏽♀️🌈
Amazing splits! You're getting so fast now 👏👏👏💪🏃♀️🏃♀️ I always wear my sports sunglasses (not prescription) unless it's really dark because they really help with the breeze/wind. Unfortunately today they were so dirty that everything was a bit of a blur so I had to take them off 😂😂
Great splits again Julia! You're building up a good turn of speed now. You should have joined the Speed Challenge.
I'm impressed with those specs - and that's a really good price for varifocals and photochromatic. I'm really tempted. Do I need to get a bike to justify it though...🤔
Work was a bit frenetic today - stuff to get done before a few days off from tomorrow😁. I was in so much of a rush to get out for my run at lunchtime that I forgot to swap the specs I use for VDU work for my normal varifocals. No wonder everything was a bit of blur. And I thought it was the sheer speed I was running at! 🤣
Well, reading your other post I’m almost speechless 😂 and I think the blur was definitely down to your speed, which was fantastic!
I probably wouldn’t have got these glasses if it hadn’t been for the cycling, but I was impressed with them on my run this morning. If you decide to order, send me a PM and I will explain about the pupillary distance measurement that they need (that most opticians won’t let you have).
Thanks. Will do that.As for the speed, well I was absolutely ready to stop after 1k. Couldn't have kept that up for any longer.
But just think - that pace probably means something like a 4 hour 10 minute marathon assuming that pace is sustainable for that length of time, which clearly it isn't.
So pleased the glasses protect your eyes so well, I do that thing with leaving then popping back inside for something and leaving again a few times too
