Another Recovery run, A steady 4K

This was my 4th run since my break and I'm still feeling it is still in the Recovery process.

It's definitely getting easier, but still way off from where I was but, as I have said before , I'm in no hurry.

This is about the direction of travel rather than the distance or pace .

I went out at around 08:20.

It was a chilly 3 degrees so I wore my tights, a vest running top and the my new first time out 'Time to Run' Thermo running jacket, (In the pictures but not me wearing it 😁) This was perfect for my run today .

I set off on my usual 5k route which is very easy to use for 3, 4 or 5K

Infact I have often used it for 10K's

I decided to use the NRC 4K Run and also a playlist of various Pink Floyd tracks .

I wasent checking pace but I notice after the run that it is still naturally a little slower than before my time out but that is to be expected.

I'm feeling comfortable though , and that's what I'm after at the moment .

I knew after the first K that 4k would be fine today .

I also considered going onto 5K but decided I would not push on too early .

So 4K was comfortable, and enjoyable and after all, that's what I want .

As I continue to recover then I will continue to re build the distance but that can take as long as it takes .

Back home, stretches done , porridge eaten 😁

Happy running!

Love this report and update but especially this...'This is about the direction of travel rather than the distance or pace.' Spot on πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ…

I think the modern lingo (used by younger generations) calls that β€˜trending’! πŸ˜ƒπŸ“ˆπŸ†™β†—οΈNice one!

Nice gentle run for you today Instructor57, well done, at first I thought that was you in the photo, I am sure if you had a photo you would look just as good as the guy in that photograph πŸ‘ 😊Fully agree with GTFC, for you, onwards and upwards, by the way I have just come back from my 34th parkrun.

Thanks Al And well done with another park run !

Unfortunately the guy in the picture looks much different to me ,

He's probably at least 30 years younger , his hair is not grey and his stomach 8s flatter than mine 🀣

Other than that, we could be twins 🀣

No point rushing it, wonderful to be able to get out and run though

Instructor57 profile image
Instructor57Graduate10 in reply to SueAppleRun

Absolutely !I'm really not interested in my pace and I'll build the distance as I am ready in my own time .

As you say , just nice to get out and run again ,

I’d be more than happy with your pace, and as you build you will get faster again

Such a sensible approach after your recent health issue. Keeping it in your comfort zone is great and of course you are building the length of your runs nicely! Nice to treat yourself to a new jacket too - very smart!I just saw your pace and it's faster than mine 🀣

Instructor57 profile image

Thanks, it was comfortable to add 1 more k on the run .Yes the jacket was courtesy of a couple of unused Amazon vouchers from Christmas 😁

Strangely enough I did notice my pace pick up a little as I approached another runner heading towards me !

I still find that is an auto response 🀣

Me too! I also speed up unconsciously when overtaking brisk walkers. My pace is averaging around 8.2 min per k at the moment, but I'm noticing the pace picking up a little towards the end.

Great run, snazzy jacket! It sounds as though you’re really getting back into the groove, and you can’t beat a bit of porridge afterwards. Hurrah Ian! πŸ˜ƒ

Thanks Kate ! Still some way to go but at least it's in the right direction .

And yes, the jacket is soooo comfortable πŸ˜πŸ‘

Sounds like you are doing great - I too have been off 6 months pre/post op and am in the same situation - frustrating that I am running slower and shorter than before but gradually increasing and hoping to be back to 1/2m in a couple of months or so if things continue as is - just need to concentrate on the trend as you say and dont rush things - we will get there!

Instructor57 profile image
Instructor57Graduate10

it was less than 2 months for me but still taking my time .As you say, we will get there !

I have been stopped for 6 months now with an achilles problem and no sign yet of recovery so I am interested in recovery runs. TBH I think week 1 of C25K beckons and I am jealous of you and others getting back into it. Anyone think of quicker ways back?

Instructor57 profile image
Instructor57Graduate10 in reply to Grumpypete

Oh no ! 😐I've been out less than a couple of months and just taking my time .

And through illness rather than injury .

Not really worth thinking of a quicker way back.

The last thing you want to do is rush a recovery.

It takes time to rebuild strength stamina and resistance to injury .

Hope your back out there soon 🀞

Well done for keeping the run comfortable. I think that having comfortable runs is more incentive to keep going than pushing yourself too hard and ending up dreading it.

Thanks, and absolutely right πŸ‘

That sounded like a good run Ian. Extending distance and nice and comfortable πŸ‘

I must say, you look good in your new jacket πŸ˜‰
