Hello Everyone and happy weekend. Today is parkrun day, a free 5K event which takes place every Saturday morning all around the world. It is for everyone, slow, fast, able, disabled, big, small and everyone in between. Oh and don't forget about the super Mum's and Dad's who push their babies in buggies. You can walk, jog, run, run/walk, it's not a race, just a run in the park and loads of us here on Bridge to 10K do it religiously every Saturday morning. Some of us may not be able to do a parkrun at the moment so until parkrun returns fully for everyone some of us will continue to take part on our own in a Virtual parkrun every Saturday morning called a (not)parkrun. Or if you are away on Holidays, prefer to run on your own, or do not have a parkrun close by you a (not)parkrun is perfect, please feel free to join in. Please post a little run report after your parkrun or (not)parkrun and let everyone know how you got on. The little run report can be done over a post parkrun coffee and treat/cake. (parkrun is all about the after run coffee and cake, and meeting friends old and new).
If you are a new graduate and would like to start, all you have to do is run, walk or jog at a parkrun or a 5K run/jog/walk (not)parkrun anytime today or tomorrow and write a little run report under this post. It's like a little community and it is good fun, sets you up nicely for the weekend. If you want to you can register on the parkrun website and you can log your 5K (not)parkrun. In fact you can log any 5K done during the week as a (not)parkrun.
For anyone whom has not done a real parkrun yet and if it is available to you, give it a try. It is the most wonderful community event. Saturday mornings will never be the same again.
Looking forward to hearing from all of you who ran in real proper parkruns and (not)parkruns. Happy running and have a lovely weekend.

Brilliant. Well done on making the effort to get some parkrun tourism done. I have not run in 3 weeks now too. So loads of walking breaks for me as well.
I've signed up to volunteer too, I didn't expect to like Lancing, but actually I really did, so will go again, but I like the idea of going further afield too, Mudita11 was in the New Forest and I feel a little envious, I'll definitely go there
volunteering is a great way of meeting people too. There’s lots of parkruns in Brighton & Hove too. Shame I didn’t run when I lived there. Mind you , I don’t thin parkrun existed then either. 😂
Hello Damienair, today is the 22nd, so many parkruns hold a tutu (22) day. Southsea didn’t put this out until the last minute so it was just me and the RD. I didn’t put mine on until after the run as there was a 30mph wind and forecast rain. I was really pleased that I managed to run it all this week, unlike in 50 mph gale last week. 1st in my age group with 59.52% grade score. A bumble bee 🐝 thought I was a flower in my bright purple, I think I look more like a fairy elephant!
Coddfish did brilliantly, as did Mr C and UpTheStanley . Breakfast followed of course.
Wet!When I was sheltering under a tree waiting to do the First Timer Welcome I looked around and the only other runner waiting was my husband, outnumbered by volunteers.
Gleefully we were contemplating getting 1st and 2nd position but then the tourists started to arrive, followed by the regulars.
The RD gave a brief introduction as more runners appeared from under the trees then she shouted Go and even more ran out from the trees. 127 runners in total.
Thankfully the rained eased a bit and I enjoyed my slow, steady run in the first real test for my new trail shoes which are very comfortable.
Morning friends (ooops, afternoon now), hope you all had great runs/volunteering stints/rehab this morning.
A friend of mine was celebrating her 50th PR and she just happens to have the Curly Wurly as her local 🌀 Any excuse to run Somerdale Pavilion! Jen off at a wedding, so off I went solo today.
A few tutus were on display (not me!) and the forecast was for dry weather until later. Well it began to rain around 2.5k and got steadily heavier, but it was so refreshing. 💦
My time was ok at 36:18 (36:10 Garmin) and of course we had a blast.
Well done cheekychipmunks . It must look quite different now after the meadow mow. I’m sorry you got the rain we were meant to have. See you next week for that Q!
It would have been a whole other kettle of fish if the grass had been long. It was probably about the same length as when you guys came in May, but that’s after a haircut!
It’s a cyclo cross track mown into a field Sue, and part of it is the legendary Curly Wurly spiral which you do 3 times. It’s called that because it’s on the grounds of the old Fry’s/Cadbury’s factory who made Curly Wurlies! 😀
I didn't realise it was in the grounds of Fry's. I have been there when my grandparents lived in Keynsham. They always had bags of misshapen chocolates
Good afternoon Damien, I was the tailwalker at Springburn parkrun this morning, but I did manage to run a little as well getting a sub 45 minutes time 44:11, I got talking to several runners at the very back, the first runner was female who told me she would be last but she overtook a man who was running with his wife so I started to talk to them while running slowly, once again they overtook another runner who was running her 5th parkrun at Springburn, so for the final 3K we were talking, running and walking in nice bright weather conditions, being tailwalker means you can talk to several runners or walkers at parkrun. 😊 🏃🏾 🚶 ✅
Thanks Sue, if someone did drop out after one lap and was injured the tailwalker has to phone the run director for assistance, I only take my Smartphone to parkrun when I am the tailwalker, not when I am running, I like to see my result when I get home, if a runner drops out just due to tiredness then it's a DNF.
I have just been looking at the times of tailwalker's at various parkruns, it averages about 55 minutes, the quickest time I have seen is about 38 minutes, the slowest one hour twenty minutes, that's 80 minutes, so my time today. of 44:11 for a tailwalker was quite quick, the fastest of the 3 tailwalker times I have been at, I am booked to be tailwalker at Dunfermline parkrun in two weeks and will ask to be tailwalker again at Springburn parkrun on Saturday 2nd September, this is for two reasons, I am running my first 10K event race the next day and I have just noticed that it will be Springburn parkruns 400th parkrun, the word cake comes to mind, 😋 yummy
Our Tailwalker is coming in at over one hour these days because we have a gentleman in the 85 to 89 age group who for many years set up our course single handed. He has done 683 parkruns and 483 volunteer occasions. Currently parkwalking with his daughter aiming to do his 700/500 on the same day.
Hi AlMorr, I was parkwalker this week, but we had no walkers so the tailwalker and I jogged along with the last person, my time was 40:16. Ironically next week I’m a pacer for 40mins, what’s the betting I’ll be way off next week!
Well done on that 40:16 tailwalker run time, a tail or parkwalker doesn't have to run but personally I don't like the idea of finishing a parkrun as tailwalker 15/20 minutes after the last runner has completed the parkrun.
That is true Damien, I once again will be the tailwalker at the same parkrun on Saturday 2nd September, the following day I'll be running my first 10K event race at our local Cumbernauld 10k, so I hope I won't need to run much at that parkrun the day before the 10K race.
Good afternoon Damien and all! Just dried off after multiple volunteer positions at today’s Stratford upon Avon parkun. It was a complete deluge from pre-setup to post close down but we had the lovely company of Oldgirlruns for a post event coffee. She and Runnerno ably marshalled in near-monsoon conditions at the bowls club, so we had near Southsea levels of HU volunteering-ness!
Thankfully it seems to have gone fairly well, all things considered. I think the bad weather can bring an extra level of camaraderie, particularly if it’s fairly warm bad weather. I was surprised at the numbers, probably swelled by a large number of soggy tourists - it was almost the same numbers as last week. We even had someone wearing a very fetching tutu for the 22nd 😁
Next week we are hoping to join Dexy5 and co at the Queen Elizabeth Country Park parkrun - a good excuse to visit some friends and relatives whilst we are in the area, as well as adding a Q to our alphabet list!
Obviously lots of hardy runners in Stratford TC! Mind you, if you've driven a long way to be a tourist you're not going to let a bit of rain put you off, are you?
We are thinking of QECP for later this year.We considered Queens Park in Glasgow for next month on our way north, but parking looks a bit tricky for our Romahome. We have booked into Strathclyde Country Park campsite - oh look! There is a parkrun just a few minutes walk away 😀
Queens park parkrun in Glasgow is a very hilly course and like all the parks in Glasgow hasn't got a car park, if there is a carpark in the park like at Springburn there is only space for about 8 cars, the reason is that when the planners designed the Glasgow parks in the 19th Century no one owned cars, however, Strathclyde Park which is outside Glasgow has a large carpark and is a flat parkrun.
Yes, for details go to Strathclyde Country Park Website, the address of the campsite is :-Strathclyde Country Park, Bothwell haugh Road, Bothwell, G71 8NY, the website says from £19.10, book a touring or tent pitch, Strathclyde Park is a 10 minutes walk from the campsite
I have to confess that our Oz /New Zealand itinerary this October/November made sure I could do 4 parkruns, all of which add to my parkrun alphabet and one gives me a compass point too 😂
Jeffing again at Portsmouth Lakeside this morning. 4 mins running, 1 min walking doesn't seem to aggravate the hernia too much and I can feel the fitness improving week on week - 36.02 as opposed to 38.04 last week.😀
269 finishers today including a group from Portsmouth Joggers doing their c25k graduation runs!👏
Another bit of tourism for me today, this time to Lymington Woodside in the New Forest and very close to the coast. 2.5 times around a rugby pitch and an immaculate park area with the neatest flower borders I’ve ever seen! Thinking I might join Dexy5 , cheekychipmunks et al at QE country park next week depending on the weather.
Back in France where parkrun is still suspended 😢I was going to go for a 5 year parkrunniversary run with my running group here yesterday, but managed to catch another stinking cold 🤧🤧 However, will be going out with them tomorrow for a flattish run along the banks of the Dordogne river 😊
I’m a bit late reporting Damien but I’m sure that won’t matter! What is it with me and volunteering? The last few times I done it, the weather has been horrible and today was the same! I’m staying with family in the Midlands at the moment so arranged to go to Stratford on Avon for a ‘mini meet up’ with TailChaser and Katnap who were RD-ing today. My knee is still grumbling, hence the offer to volunteer. It was good to meet Runerno, another HUer, and as we were marshalling together we were able to have a bit of a chat when not marshalling! Some lovely cheerful but very wet runners out there today and I was glad I had my wet weather gear on! Thank you SoA for making me feel very welcome!
Very well done and how lovely to have a meet up. Sorry I am late replying. I lost my phone whilst on Holidays. All sorted now again. But was without my phone for a couple of weeks. Kept me off line which was actually lovely. 😀
Really late replying myself. I have not run much in the last few weeks and have lost so much fitness. And I don't even care. I loved the break. Did plenty of Dog walks. I brought Ruby with me to parkrun on Saturday, it was raining very heavily when I left home, but thankfully all was OK at parkrun. We jeffed around in a time of 38:09. I will go for a run this evening and get back into it again.
