Hello Everyone and happy weekend. Today is parkrun day, a free 5K event which takes place every Saturday morning all around the world. It is for everyone, slow, fast, able, disabled, big, small and everyone in between. Oh and don't forget about the super Mum's and Dad's who push their babies in buggies. You can walk, jog, run, run/walk, it's not a race, just a run in the park and loads of us here on Bridge to 10K do it religiously every Saturday morning.
Some of us may not be able to do a parkrun at the moment so until parkrun returns fully for everyone some of us will continue to take part on our own in a Virtual parkrun every Saturday morning called a (not)parkrun. Or if you are away on Holidays, prefer to run on your own, or do not have a parkrun close by you a (not)parkrun is perfect, please feel free to join in. Please post a little run report after your parkrun or (not)parkrun and let everyone know how you got on. The little run report can be done over a post parkrun coffee and treat/cake. (parkrun is all about the after run coffee and cake, and meeting friends old and new).
If you are a new graduate and would like to start, all you have to do is run, walk or jog at a parkrun or a 5K run/jog/walk (not)parkrun anytime today or tomorrow and write a little run report under this post. It's like a little community and it is good fun, sets you up nicely for the weekend. If you want to you can register on the parkrun website and you can log your 5K (not)parkrun. In fact you can log any 5K done during the week as a (not)parkrun.
For anyone whom has not done a real parkrun yet and if it is available to you, give it a try. It is the most wonderful community event. Saturday mornings will never be the same again.
Looking forward to hearing from all of you who ran in real proper parkruns and (not)parkruns. Happy running and have a lovely weekend.

Hi damienair & other park runners, (not) park runners,
No Park run today for us as we had our first HM race. As promised, here is an update on how we went. Hubby has battled all through his training with a pesky calf problem so he was a DNF today. He made it to 9k without any pain & pulled up sensibly at the halfway point - it was a two loop course. No.2 son ran 1:44:05 which is an awesome effort for his first HM & I came in at 2:27:54.
Thankful for the opportunity to run in such a beautiful city. I love Perth.
Awesome efforts RW and family. Mr RW was no doubt disappointed, but in the broad scheme of things he definitely made the sensible decision and will hopefully be fit and healthy for his next race. 😀
I think he expected to not be able to run so was happy with his one lap. There was a 5k & 10k race today so plenty of our run club to hang out with whilst they waited for me. 🐌
Congratulations to you and your son on great times. Shame about Mr RW, but no point in making it worse. Hopefully he will manage to get it sorted so he can get back to his previous form.
What a lovely picture RW and more awesome running from the RW family! Mr RW will be disappointed but I’m sure there’ll be lots of future opportunities for him to shine!
It was a wet one this morning but that didn’t put us off. It was a family affair. I was joined this morning at my local parkrun by my wife and son no.2 who jogged and walked the course with his mum. Ruby of course joined us too whilst Oisin the lazy git teenager stayed at home in bed.
It was pacer week this week so I decided to stick like glue to the 30 minute pacer. There was a few running along with the pacer for the first 2K but after a while most fell behind. Thankfully I managed to hold on and finished in my fastest time this year with an official parkrun finish time of 29:13 which I’m delighted with.
I joined Nicola and Lorcan for the last of their Laps and we could let Ruby off the lead as we would no longer have runners lapping us.
How lovely Damien! Your time was stellar, well done sticking with the pacer. Tell Oisin Flossie will come along when we next meet up (which will be happening I’m sure), so he needs to keep his running up. If not she’ll be disappointed! 🐕😅
How lovely to have the family with you damienair; shame about Oisin but he’ll come back one day I’m sure - in the meantime, he’s a growing lad who needs his sleep!
Morning Damien and parkrunners. 😀 Clevedon for us this time, and the weather was far more clement than expected. 🙏🏻
Not much to report other than the fact I ran a cosy feel-good 5k in an attempt to regain some of my sorely lacking fitness, and it felt great. Jenny’s Garmin didn’t record, so we have no idea how she did, but she said it felt good too. No official results out yet, but the main thing is I’m feeling better each run. 🙏🏻
Thanks Damien. Hmmm, bouncing? That sounds quick! That I’m certainly not. 😅 I hope to shed some snails this spring and summer though, but I’m a softy and enjoy their company too much! 🐌😅
I thought there might be reports of park runners being blown into the sea down there after the wind yesterday! Glad it was ok. Sounds like you had a great run. I have to admit, “cosy” and “Clevedon seafront” aren’t words that I’d usually expect in the same sentence! 😂
I know, I was so relieved when we pulled into the carpark and the rain subsided. The wind wasn’t even a factor as it was coming off the water. Sooooo much better than the wall of headwind at Severn Bridge last weekend. 😳😳
It really did feel cosy! I’m not pushing myself at all at the moment. I just want to run continuously and happily, so it was definitely slower than I can do - but lack of fitness dictated my pace today and my mantra has always been running should be fun. It was! 😍
Glorious Park Run in Stoke-on-Trent this morning Tried the walk/run technique and kept max HR down to 147. Also came in a little quicker than previously. So, it works! Thanks to those who suggested it.
Very well done on your parkrun today. That’s how I started, walking and running. It is great to see improvements every week. You have to celebrate your PB’s.
I hadn't seen this about Ace Celerate but astronaut Miles Stone is planning on running a parkrun on the moon next year! I hear they're looking for volunteers... You can read all about it here: blog.parkrun.com/uk/2023/03...
Good morning Damien, this morning I ran my 76th parkrun at Drumpellier Parkrun, that's about 12 miles from Glasgow, No. 21 at Drumpellier so I should get the keys to enter that country park, lol, my time today was 32:39, way down from my PB of 30:09 there sometime last year, nevertheless I still enjoyed my run this morning, by the way yesterday I signed up for my first event race which will be my local Cumbernauld 10k on the 3rd September this year.
Today I ticked off G with Gladstone Park.I was worried, because I’d heard there were hills. They weren’t so bad and you have to remember that after an uphill comes a downhill.
Afterwards I went to visit the local Hindu temple. It is biggest temple of its kind outside India and very inspiring after a run.
It was raining heavily this morning, so I decided on a (not)parkrun coordinated with the weather. It was going to be a special 5K as I had signed up for a virtual run for Ukraine. Plus, today is my 6 month runniversary. By quarter til 11, I was antsy and decided I'd brave the now light rain.
By the time I got outside, it was basically just "high humidity" (that is, a light drizzle) that stopped after my warm-up. I had a nice 5K a few times going off onto the closest thing to trails I can find around paved-over nature around here - and mostly just enjoying that hardly anybody else was out.
And, yes, the beautiful orange run shirt arrived on Wednesday!
Congratulations to you ChannelRunner2 on the occasion of your 6 months runniversary, well done as well on running that special (not) 5K parkrun for Ukraine, very nice photo of you in your new orange run shirt. ✅👍
Hello everyone! We are on our way back to the UK in time for Easter and, rather than stop in Burgos last night we pushed on to St Jean de Luz just over the Spanish border in France for 2 nights instead of one. Sadly, after 4 weeks of almost unbroken sunshine, the weather has taken a turn for the worse and it was windy and raining when I woke up. I waited until the rain eased before going for my (not) parkrun, but it was still very windy. The route I chose was also rather undulating and I really didn’t enjoy it. 5k time of 35.58 ☹️ Hoping for better weather and a springlike return to parkrun proper next week 🤞🏻🤞🏻
Thanks BC! Followed up with a walk into the town with Mr S and we got caught in what I can only describe as a sudden storm, which had restaurateurs moving tables and chairs indoors, removing external menu boards, winding in awnings, to save them getting blown away. We dived into the nearest restaurant and got the bus back 😂😂
Cold and wet when I set off this morning; even colder for the walk home! So my focus was purely on the run. But, that was the end of the bad news. Pyramid intervals! Never heard of them before; 1 minute mile pace, 5 minutes 5k pace then 10 minutes at 10k pace, then back to 5 minutes at 5k pace and finally down to a minute at mile pace. All interspersed with recovery periods (which I ran).
I really enjoyed it! Quickest pace was 6:05/k, so not silly, but just right as a build up to Monday’s 15k. Like cheeky I think that my fitness is returning. Even the miserly VO2 max gave me a point back for the second time in a week. Given that I started using a new inhaler 10 days ago, there must be a link, so this isn’t all me!
The first 5k. (which included a warm up 1k) was 33:36. Hopefully that is the end of the bug! 🙂
🙂 and multi tone voices too. In fairness JRS got me to my 5k pb. We just decided to go our separate ways afterwards. Weather seems to be brightening to welcome you back.👍
Currently “chez nous” in the Dordogne having escaped the still very wet and windy coast. Overcast and breezy here, but have managed to hang out the washing 👍
Fabulous BC! Pyramids are such fun. You really do seem to have shaken that bug and told it where to go. I’m so happy for you. 😀 Good riddance to bugs. Be gone ➡️
Hi damienair and running friends. I was lucky enough to have a couple of running friends🏃♀️🏃♂️ to run with me for half marathon training first thing this morning, so we set off in light rain at 7:00am. We had a lovely chatty run and ended up at Parkrun, 8.5 miles later.👍
Then I did Parkrun in heavy rain, adding another 3 miles to my daily total and meeting my training schedule. My Parkrun time was 0:34:59 which I’m pleased about and my overall time for 11.56 miles was 2:17:49 which is great!😀
Just a couple more weeks of long runs then I start tapering. That’s just as well as I’m on holiday for a few days in Devon🏖️. Of course I’ve found a local Parkrun to do down there, and even a couple of virtual running buddies to run with.🏃♀️🏃♀️ That should be fun as I’ve never met them in person before!
Safe running everyone - enjoy the longer days and hopefully more sunshine!🌞😎
Thanks Beachcomber66 yes, I’ve come so far in a relatively short time!😳 It’s all down to following my sports physio’s advice to the letter, doing my strength and mobility exercises, my custom-made insoles and finally (and most importantly) the support of my running friends!😊
I am creaking back up to 15k on Monday! A bit late for the HUHM I think, but I am stronger than I was for the GSR. As you were saying; we could do with some decent weather now.
I’ve decided that I’m going to treat the HUHM like a walk interspersed with some running BC. Like Jeffing in reverse I suppose! Not a chance I’ll be fit enough by then - heck, I’ve barely gone over 10k since the GSR. But I want to take part in some form and claim my medal (as I signed up for a virtual spring HM). Bugs have a lot to answer for. 🙄
I will see how things are on the day. If I keep going at my current rate, I might be able to get somewhere near if I run very slowly. Time for all sorts of disasters before then!
We’ve had our fair share of disasters I think. Time for them to jog on to pastures new (not HU pastures). It would be great if you could complete the HM. Maybe pick a straightforward flat route. That’s what I intend to do, and by hook or by crook I’ll get over that finish line!
Slowly healing. I did a walk this afternoon. It was slow because it was with Herself, and she doesn't move quickly. No discomfort, except where the adhesive on the dressings pulled on my leg hairs.
I tried a new Parkrun this morning at the lovely Crosby beach with the famous Anthony Gormley statues to run round. My friend came with me and I met my running club there. It was running on the beach (tough), then a bit of park before finishing on grass (with lots of rabbit holes).
I loved it (many don’t as they say it’s so open and tough), but I think I enjoyed the change in terrain ☺️.
There was a member of our club who is 82 and was running his 250th Parkrun today. He got lots of cheers! What an inspiration! A great Parkrun and a great Saturday morning.
Parkwalker today, just as well as a lot of the course underwater, so I tiptoed round those bits. No other walkers so was able to go at my own pace. Love that the puddle(?) was marked with a cone, in case we missed the hazard it creates! Time a slow 50 mins but considering the constraints I was pleased. Amazingly we had 18 first timers to our course, out of a field of 78, very few of which were tourists, who in their right mind would have thought this would be a good idea for their first Parkrun, rain all week, then grey and rainy on the day. Oh well, I hope they come back in better conditions and it hasn’t put them off.
I finally ran my 100 th Parkrun yesterday. This is the person who was never going to run and certainly not do Parkrun! Also for those who wonder if they’re too old to do this we have several parkrunners in their 80’s! ( for reference, I’m nearly 72)
I missed parkrun as I'm in a non-parkrun country, Turkey. I was going to (not) parkrun yesterday but ended up having a tooth extracted instead after severe toothache early hours of Thursday morning. However I think the dentist will confirm I must have danced around in the chair for nearly 5k🦷😂
Like Kocelyn I also did my 100th parkrun yesterday, tailwalking at home at West Links after a month touring Europe. People from my running club were celebrating their completion of Couch to 5k so a nice pub brunch afterwards.
The celebration was for the Couch to 5k graduates not for me but that’s OK. It was a repeat performance for me anyway as not long ago I tailwalked in the 100 cape for my 100th volunteer day. My 100th was going to be in Italy but Scottish ice and French bureaucracy set it back two weeks.
