How did your parkrun or (not)parkrun go?

Hello Everyone and happy weekend. Today is parkrun day, a free 5K event which takes place every Saturday morning all around the world. It is for everyone, slow, fast, able, disabled, big, small and everyone in between. Oh and don't forget about the super Mum's and Dad's who push their babies in buggies. You can walk, jog, run, run/walk, it's not a race, just a run in the park and loads of us here on Bridge to 10K do it religiously every Saturday morning.

Some of us may not be able to do a parkrun at the moment so until parkrun returns fully for everyone some of us will continue to take part on our own in a Virtual parkrun every Saturday morning called a (not)parkrun. Or if you are away on Holidays, prefer to run on your own, or do not have a parkrun close by you a (not)parkrun is perfect, please feel free to join in.

Please post a little run report after your parkrun or (not)parkrun and let everyone know how you got on. The little run report can be done over a post parkrun coffee and treat/cake. (parkrun is all about the after run coffee and cake, and meeting friends old and new).

If you are a new graduate and would like to start, all you have to do is run, walk or jog at a parkrun or a 5K run/jog/walk (not)parkrun anytime today or tomorrow and write a little run report under this post. It's like a little community and it is good fun, sets you up nicely for the weekend. If you want to you can register on the parkrun website and you can log your 5K (not)parkrun. In fact you can log any 5K done during the week as a (not)parkrun.

For anyone whom has not done a real parkrun yet and if it is available to you, give it a try. It is the most wonderful community event. Saturday mornings will never be the same again.Looking forward to hearing from all of you who ran in real proper parkruns and (not)parkruns. Happy running and have a lovely weekend.

Unfortunately no parkrun for me this morning. I’m away at a conference in beautiful Belfast. But I did go for a lovely 4K not parkrun yesterday evening.

Hi Damienair, Parkrun 10 today was courtesy of the superbly organised Medina Parkrun on the Isle of Wight. A breezy but very mild and sunny October morning on Seaclose Park home of the current day IOW Festival. This will be my last Parkrun for a few weeks assuming no re-scheduling of my operation in a week's time. But I'll hopefully be up for doing some marshalling at my home event.

The run time was definitely affected by the breeze, running a big chunk on lush turf and the odd gradient, my normal run is flat.

Well done chinkoflight. Running on grass is so energy sapping isn’t it? I’m waving at you from Southsea, but our parkrun was cancelled this week.

Good luck with the operation, and volunteering afterwards is a great idea.

Good morning park runners, I did a (not) park run this morning, We’ve had our second cold in 3 weeks and just beginning to feel a bit like ourselves again. It had to be the river. Blue sky, sun in our eyes, breezy and warm, by the time we’d walked across the bridge I realised I didn’t need my light running jacket so tied it round my waist, I didn’t know how far I would run but I ran 2.5k turned and jeffed it back. 48 minutes of pure joy

Happy park run everyone and thanks for hosting this damienair

Morning Damien and everyone. 👋

Volunteering at Eastville with Flossie again this week. Marshal station 7, our favourite pre-requested post! It was a lovely mild morning, fairly breezy, a few showers, but loads of happy runners and walkers out today.

Home now, breakfast scoffed, covid test negative. Next step, hop in the car with Mr Cheeky and head to Portsmouth. GSR here we come, although it needn’t be quaking in its boots after my dire preparation. I don’t mind one jot. I feel ok and I’ll do my best! There’s bling at stake. 😍🏅

Good afternoon Damien and all,

We weren’t going to be at our home parkrun today as we have the GSR tomorrow but we changed our plans as neither of us are 100% and also Windoze was coming over for a secret 100th!

It was my 111th parkrun, aka a ‘Nelson’ in cricketing terms. Very appropriate as I shall be running past the HMS Victory tomorrow 😁

I actually beat katnap today as he’s still nursing his leg. Got my first sub 30 in a while but my heart rate reflected my still recovering cold so I shall be taking it much easier tomorrow or I won’t last.

We had an impromptu mini HU get together with Windoze, Shake-and-run and Runnerno which was a lovely surprise, especially ahead of the huge one later this weekend.

Instead of going to one of the cafes were treated to some of the best brownies I’ve ever tasted and some coffee by Windoze and his girlfriend afterwards. They really do need to come more often 😋

Happy running everyone 👏👏👏

Good afternoon Damien, this morning I ran my 61st parkrun at Springburn parkrun in Glasgow, when I set off from my home it was raining but the weather forecast said the rain would go off soon, the forecast was correct as during the run the sun actually began to shine, my time today was 31.20.

There were several runners, about 20 who were using this mornings parkrun as there graduation run from C25K, a ladies group calling themselves "JigglyJoggers" I wished them all the best for their graduation run.

Hello Damienair and all. The Titanic building looks lovely; we first spotted it on Bloodlands on TV this week.

Due to the Great South Run 5k taking over our local course today we decided to parkrun tourist with Oldgirlruns to Alice Holt near Farnham . This gave me an A in the alphabet, and parkrun challenge, and was tourist run no 21.

It is on Forestry Commission land and is absolutely beautiful with the changing colours of autumn. It has to be said, it included hills, including the dreaded Dragon Hill, There was also a Gruffalo Trail to encourage children to get into the forest.

Mushrooms and toadstools of all shapes and sizes were seen growing in the damp undergrowth. Trees arched over us and I tried to catch falling leaves as I ran (to no avail)

A perfect sunny day, and no wind. I enjoyed running the downhills and walked up some of the uphills. A bit slippy underfoot but I had worn trail shoes. A couple of teenage lads and I took turns in overtaking each other but they got me on the last hill. A 38:48 finish was fine for that course and also gives me a bit of leeway to PB next time, as I’m sure we’ll return. 10% discount in the cafe on showing your barcode made the breakfast baps all the nicer.

Have a great weekend everyone

Hi damienair . No running for me today but I volunteered to do pre-event set up at my home course Southampton. Beautiful sunny day and 799 runners. Bumped into a couple who are from Bath who I had chatted with at Salisbury parkrun a few months ago. Preserving my energy today for the GSR but will no doubt be back to parkrun next week. The Bath couple were trying to convince me to do Bath Skyline so you never know. Sounds beautiful 😃

Dexy5 profile image
Dexy5Graduate10 in reply to Mudita11

Ha ha. Coddfish has done bath skyline. Hills come to mind.

Mudita11 profile image
Mudita11Graduate10 in reply to Dexy5

Hmm might rethink that one then 🤣

Coddfish profile image
CoddfishGraduate10 in reply to Dexy5

it’s not hilly other than some uphill woodland steps and one downhill slope. My downfall was doing it during a very wet January when I didn’t have trail shoes. The bit through Fairy Woods is ok, but then you have to go through a series of fields. The bits near the gates were deeply rutted and I think I was carrying my own body weight in mud on my shoes by the time I had finished. Plus the finish tunnel was over a very deep puddle.

Mudita11 profile image

Thanks Coddfish . Maybe I’ll wait til next summer then 😃

Good afternoon Damien.

Parkrun number 47 for me today on my home turf.

A quiet morning, with just 48 timed participants. There were two there with new parkwalker volunteer tabards. We even had a guy in a parkwalker tee shirt too.

It had rained hard about 7.45 am and the duvet was begging me not to abandon it. I steeled myself and wrested myself from its coddling to face whatever Mother Nature had in store for me this morning.

After dashing about finding and choosing my kit, I eventually arrived at the park at 8.55am. I wasn't the only one sneaking in late. I got a joking rebuke from one of the marshals who was walking to his post (the first turn).

There were a few dogs on leads this morning, mostly with the parkwalkers. When the Run Director asked if there were any under elevens, a kid in wellies who was splashing in puddles to one side piped up with a loud "ME".

There were a couple of people doing milestones: one doing a 100th volunteer and another doing a 100th run.

And we were off. There were lots of soggy fallen leaves all over the place, there were also muddy puddles in places, and there were conker cases on the start/finish stretch.

I deliberately didn't go hard today as there was a risk of slipping. That said, I never felt as if I was losing grip at all.

As usual, I start near the back, get a few hundred metres under my legs then start pushing up the ranks.

At the rose garden the marshal at the turn in (and turn out) warned us about slippy moss that had grown on the tarmac.

I pass the first turn marshal and he greets me by name. The cafe up the slipe was cooking bacon and the smells wafted over to this corner. On my third pass by him I mention this is the corner for smells: bacon from the cafe and vinegar from the factory about half a mile away.

Ahead there were snarls from a group of dogs, possibly including one of the parkwalkers. When I got there, the incident was already over.

I joke with the marshal at the bottom of the steep climb playing dumb as if I've lost my way. He doesn't bite.

And then it's the final straight into the finish funnel. No heroics from me today. I do speed up a little when I have it in sight, but it's by no means a sprint.

The marshal handing out finish tokens has a running (sic.) gag of saying "You're in the first N finishers today" where N is their place. I get scanned in.

Afterwards some light chatting with other runners until I start getting cold, then I bid my farewells and head for the car.

Official time 29'05", place 15 out of 48.

And the sun came out just as I was taking a photo of a conker...

Parkrun #29 for me today. I decided I'd see if I could go quickly. Its always a bit of luck of the draw how that works out. It was a bit windy this morning but to be honest I didn't notice it when I got running. Pleased with the finish time of 20:41 with my fast shoes. Perhaps one day I'll go sub 20 but at the moment it is beyond my reach.

No park run for me yesterday as I was on a hike in beautiful Kendal. I got talking to a few of my walking club members who run and I’m now planning on entering some Lakeland trail runs next year; running and the Lake District are two of my fave things ☺️. Good luck to all those running the GSR this morning 👏🏻

A bit late with my reply, sorry! Yesterday was my 36th PR. I’d decided to volunteer after doing 7 PRs on the trot and then the opportunity to be the tailwalker came up when I arrived. Best of both worlds- a run credit and a volunteer credit too! It was a beautiful morning and I was a bit envious of the perfect running conditions! I love to see how encouraging so many of the faster runners are to those at the back of the pack as they go past. I did get to break into a run for the final stretch as the walkers at the end decided on a sprint finish! 335th across the line!

Good luck to all those doing the GSR today!

Hi Damien

well I thought it would take a long time to get over covid and it did, then I eventually started to get closer to the times I used to be, but then the last few weeks, I'm struggling for energy and its been a real challenge to get round. Cannot understand what is going on, I'm generally good on hydration, eat healthily , do some stretching and strength training on the days I'm not running. So I'm still doing Parkrun every week but do get frustrated at how quickly I'm tiring, and this week was no different! But.................. I'm a Capricorn, stubborn, determined and will keep going and it will come good again in the end, I'm sure.😀🏃‍♀️💪

damienair profile image
damienairAdministrator in reply to Hedgehogs123

Just keep at it. I got sick in July. It took me about 8 weeks to get over it and for one reason or another missed running for a few weeks. So like you I am tired, finding it hard to get around without having to take some walking breaks. I’m basically starting from scratch again. But we will be back there again.

Hedgehogs123 profile image
Hedgehogs123Graduate10

thank you, yes I'm sure we will., amazing the impact covid has, lasts much longer than lots of us realise. Definitely do not want it again! You do a steering job spurring us all on and taking the time to reply. 👏The good running times will return I'm sure. I have a 10km race in 2 weeks, so I'm trying not to put pressure on myself re times, as it probably won't be as good as I'd like, but I'm going to give all I've go!! 😄🏃‍♀️

damienair profile image
damienairAdministrator in reply to Hedgehogs123

I need to lose some weight, get back running more regularly and build up some fitness again. I aim to be doing parkrun in 30 mins by Christmas and will work hard to get my times down next year.
