Hello Everyone and happy weekend. Today is parkrun day, a free 5K event which takes place every Saturday morning all around the world. It is for everyone, slow, fast, able, disabled, big, small and everyone in between. Oh and don't forget about the super Mum's and Dad's who push their babies in buggies. You can walk, jog, run, run/walk, it's not a race, just a run in the park and loads of us here on Bridge to 10K do it religiously every Saturday morning.
Some of us may not be able to do a parkrun at the moment so until parkrun returns fully for everyone some of us will continue to take part on our own in a Virtual parkrun every Saturday morning called a (not)parkrun. Or if you are away on Holidays, prefer to run on your own, or do not have a parkrun close by you a (not)parkrun is perfect, please feel free to join in. Please post a little run report after your parkrun or (not)parkrun and let everyone know how you got on. The little run report can be done over a post parkrun coffee and treat/cake. (parkrun is all about the after run coffee and cake, and meeting friends old and new).
If you are a new graduate and would like to start, all you have to do is run, walk or jog at a parkrun or a 5K run/jog/walk (not)parkrun anytime today or tomorrow and write a little run report under this post. It's like a little community and it is good fun, sets you up nicely for the weekend. If you want to you can register on the parkrun website and you can log your 5K (not)parkrun. In fact you can log any 5K done during the week as a (not)parkrun.
For anyone whom has not done a real parkrun yet and if it is available to you, give it a try. It is the most wonderful community event. Saturday mornings will never be the same again.
Looking forward to hearing from all of you who ran in real proper parkruns and (not)parkruns. Happy running and have a lovely weekend.

It was โwear fluro dayโ at Park run in honour of one of our regulars who has had to have major spinal surgery. Hubby has had Covid so it was just no.2 son & me this week for our 49th park run.ย Weโve all been floored by a cold/maybe Covid? so the plan was to just run for our park run friend. I popped my easy run shoes on to remind myself not to push it. I was also wearing hubbyโs thick long sleeve run London tee shirt as that was the only fluro I could find.No.2 son came in at 20:17 & I came in at 30:25 โค๏ธ๐โโ๏ธ๐๐ปโโ๏ธ
Well done to you both and hope you all feel better soon. I got some kind of cold two weeks ago which floored me for a few days. I thought it was Covid, but i tested negative. Best wishes for a speedy recovery for your parkrun friend.
I also tested negative but my heart rate has been so elevated that Iโm hoping that it was Covid. Hubby managed to give me a nosebleed jabbing the test up my nose so Iโm not up for repeat testing ๐คฃ
Morning everyone. I didnโt feel like waking up too early today, so decided to do a closer ParkRun. I ticked off T of my Alphabet challenge with Tooting Common ParkRun.
It was a lovely 3 lap course with very friendly volunteers. The run director told everyone it was Mental Health awareness week and we all did a few seconds of breathing and โmeditationโ.
This morning I was up early. We had a lovely BBQ yesterday evening. I also relaxed and had a few beers which was not the best of idea's for parkrun this morning. At around the 3K mark my legs felt heavy and I took a walking break, ran for a bit and took another walking break before running the last 1.5 K. I still enjoyed it, you never regret doing a parkrun and my finish time was 30:33. So not too bad considering my over indulgences yesterday evening. ๐บ๐บ๐บ๐
Good morning everyone! No parkrun for me today as I woke up in the middle of the night feeling unwell and decided not to risk it.
However, in exciting news, Mr S and I have booked a 6 week trip to Australia and New Zealand in October/November and, based on our itinerary, I have identified 3 or possibly 4 parkruns I could do while weโre there ๐๐ Iโll do shout out at the time and hope to meet some fellow parkrunners down under ๐ค๐ป๐ค๐ป๐ค๐ป
Nearest Iโll get is waving from the plane unfortunately. Iโve already been in touch with lexi6 though and have wangled to be in the Wellington area on a Saturday. Devious, moi? ๐คฃ๐คฃ
It might not be for a while! I must admit though, there are so many fantastic places to see over there that I would love to come back and see more of the country
I canโt wait ๐ If we hadnโt been going to France in summer I could have done my ๐ฏ there cos Iโm on 76 and itโs 22 weeks until we go (not that Iโm counting!) As it is, it will probably be in the depths of winter back here โน๏ธ
Absolutely ๐ If all goes to plan I can do North Sydney, which will give me N for alphabet, north compass point and my 3rd overseas parkrun. Can life get any better?
Thanks ๐ I felt fine by lunchtime, very strange! Canโt wait, weโve been saying we wanted to go for a long time and decided if weโre going to do it, we need to get on with it ๐
Not sure what to do for Mondayโs long run cheekyโฆ. Not as far as last Monday is the starting point. Cheering you on tomorrow ๐๐๐๐๐๐
Jennyโs 50th today (no, not her 50th birthday as one of my friends wondered upon overhearing my conversation at choir this week - that would make me a 9 year old mother! ๐คฃ).
Her choice of PR, so I was very happy with Severn Bridge. Bright sunshine, but a lovely cooling breeze gave us perfect conditions. We were very nearly late for the briefing; sheโd wanted a quiet affair, but being the embarrassing mum I couldnโt let her milestone go unnoticed and Iโd alerted the RD. She now realises why I was overtaking more cars than usual on the M4/M48, and why I fancied a brisk jog down to the tunnel. ๐ We got there with a minute to spare before her name was called out! ๐ฅณ She was awarded a Batman-style red โ50โ cape which she ran in for a total of one minute before realising it was choking her. ๐
Anyway, my best PR for months (36:00 PR, 35:46 Garmin) and Jen came in at 26:17. A celebratory visit to the Golden Arches for hash browns and an egg and cheese McMuffin completed a fun morning. ๐ฅฐ
Congratulations CC and to Jenny on her 50th PARKRUN, you're running a half marathon tomorrow, I wish you all the best for that but I thought you might want to rest your legs for that big event.
Thanks Al! Iโm taking it easy tomorrow as I havenโt run HM distance since September 2021, so Iโm Jeffing. Donโt worry, I donโt intend to work my legs hard, I just want to be part of the HUHM contingent!
Thanks Dexy. Almost didnโt make it in time as Jenny was in saying good morning to the babies. I was having kittens, knowing that SBโs briefing is always at 8:50 to take into account the walk up to the bridge. ๐ณ
Hello parkrunners and non-parkrunners. A glorious morning in Stratford today , although a cheeky cool breeze had runners adding and removing layers as the sun and clouds altered the temperature during the pre-run briefing.
Iโve been feeling quite โwellโ recently as the cycling/ running training seems to be having an effect on my fitness (and Strava has given me a fitness score of 69). Iโve not run a Parkrun for a few weeks so I was excited to get going and see what I could do. As always it seemed harder than it should be but the data was quite respectable (for me) and I seemed to recover quickly (good job as I was volunteering for close down so had some jobs to do).
Here I am โposingโ in my British Heart Foundation T shirt so I have a new picture for my sponsorship page. (If anyone would like to sponsor me for the London to Brighton ride, please shout and I will send you the link to the just giving page -thank you).
Good afternoon Damien, this morning was my 37th parkrun at Dunfermline #81 altogether, a cloudy mild morning with just a hint of very light drizzle, a smir as we call it in Scotland ๐ด๓ ง๓ ข๓ ณ๓ ฃ๓ ด๓ ฟ and Ireland ๐ฎ๐ช, a very so so run for me today, my time was 32:30/pace 6.30/minK despite a short walk up the two short steep hills on the course, in the early days around 4 years ago when I ran up those hills my times were +34 minutes, my first two runs at Dunfermline then were 34:15 and 34:16, perhaps a very short quick walk allows the legs recover back to running after a short break, overall a nice run, I did tell the RD that I can volunteer for tailwalker within the next few months.
4th park run at Beckenham place park today. Itโs a beautiful one lap route through woods, around a lake and across a fields and the grounds of the mansion. Recommended for anyone in south London!
I felt pretty good the whole way round. Iโd rub my first ever 10k over the route a week ago so I just wanted another run and didnโt want too much pressure.
Finished in 31:55 which I was a little disappointed in as I thought Iโd been faster!
Still a way off my elusive sub-30 5km!
But it was a lovely run and a beautiful morning so pleased overall - now off to do some gardening.
How lovely ReyC , when we were at Beckenham Pace they were still working on the park and I think we did several laps on the grass and it was very misty. We may have to revisit!
Not sure where you are now but itโs worth a visit! There is a swimming lake, some woods, and a lovely cafe that sells excellent pizza and icecream. There are often fun stuff like art exhibitions, antique fairs or food markets on the weekend too. Itโs lovely!
oh yes you are on the other side of the railway line now. Hubby has just retired from the hockey club on Foxgrove Rd so not so easy but we will have to come back to check it out sometime.
Good afternoon Damien and all, just finished my lunch and done the initial token sort. Legs need a rest as theyโre definitely asking questions as to why Iโm running so much. Still, they should be used to Saturdays by now. I did give them a bit of a break this morning by walking to parkrun and then walking the course check. That was useful as I actually remembered to check the defibrillators that I usually forget and have to go back for.
Tourist season is definitely here in Stratford. We had a lot of visitors from all over the UK today and the town is busy and bustling. Numbers are on the up at parkrun too.
I ran with youngest kitten for much of today. He found it hard today as heโs not really been out of his room this week whilst heโs been studying. More leg stretching required I think. My legs felt like lead but they were better than last nights run, which was horrid. This is day 20 of 5k a Day in May, so they have good reason. I was surprised at my time and even more surprised to see that I was 1st in my age grade! However, the usual suspects are resting for the various races in Worcester tomorrow - this was shown by the first lady runner not coming in until 62nd place. Still, Iโll take that!
HUHM tomorrow, thatโll give the legs something to complain about!
Well done TC, I remain in awe of the sheer number of miles you clock up. Amazing!
Iโll be โwithโ you tomorrow doing the HUHM. Jeffing for me this time as you know, but Iโll think of you waiting for me virtually at the finish line. Good luck! โ๏ธ ๐โโ๏ธ๐ฅฐ
I think Iโll probably be Jeffing with you Cheeky, not much left in these legs at the moment. Might sneak into the train carriage cafe on the way back for a breather! Good luck to you too ๐
You really are a pocket rocket TC. I donโt know how you run so quickly when you are also racking up the miles. Good luck to youngest kitten for his exams and have fun tomorrow. Going to be a warm one, donโt forget the water!
Thanks Sandie, it wasnโt speedy, it was just luck really. Iโll pass on your message - first one on Wednesday ๐ฌ Better get the hydration pack out again, hate the thing!
Hi everyone ๐๐ป, what a beautiful day โ๏ธ. Not a fan of running in this heat though.
Our running club has been coaching a new group of ct5k runners and Iโve been helping out and today was their graduation run and we chose Widnes Parkrun to do it.
One coach said he was pacing at 30 today and Iโve never ran a 5k faster than 31 mins so I wanted to get just under that and keep him in my sights. I lost him on lap 2 of 3.5 but he slowed down on lap 3 (heโd been pacing a bit fast) and he cheered me to the finish line where I got my first sub 30 5k! ๐ I was so happy as I didnโt think it was achievable for me but now Iโve done it Iโll be having easy parkruns from now on as it was sooo hard. ๐
well Iโm over that time frame by a long way. My times are creeping in the right direction, but very slowly. Currently at 36 mins so still some way to go (when I started in November 2019 they were over 40 mins. I think I might get sub 30 in another 4 to 5 years ๐คฃ๐คฃ๐คฃ).
I started out at around 34-35 mins so a bit of a head start but the speed has crept up which I didnโt expect being a late starter and older runner ๐
Thatโs fabulous Dendev! Well done to you! We used to have a tradition on here that you had to get a tattoo done when you went sub 30โฆ๐ (well, two of us did it anywayโฆ๐)
I like ducksโฆ(as you may be able to tell from Pato on my avatar ๐). Flaraflarkin had a butterfly ๐ฆ on her wrist, it was quite a long time ago now, but you could revive it ๐
So I managed a parkrun this morning in Monmouth. This was only the second one I had done. The first one I did was in 2015. My time then was quicker than today. Not by much I have to say. Today I ran 45 mins and 11 seconds.
The volunteers were so friendly and it was a great atmosphere. The route was relatively flat with only one tiny incline. Brilliant! ๐๐โโ๏ธ๐๐
Thanks damienair! I did enjoy it. So roll on Saturday when Iโll go again.Tomorrow trying a new running route and it will be longer so Iโm excited about that๐๐.
Itโs 5 years since my very first parkrun and what a lovely day for it. Beautiful sunshine and the wind was coming from the North East which is just perfect as it helps to push us home after the turning cone.
I ran most of the way talking to a friend of Coddfish , but then pulled ahead of her when she started to struggle. I was half expecting her to appear from nowhere and take me out as she has an excellent sprint finish but she said she just didnโt have the energy today.
My official time was 33:33. - there should be a prize for that perfect number! Due to the ever increasing number of runners, I lost time getting to the star line, 32:55 on Garmin . I was 2nd in my age group of 5.
We celebrated by going to a completely different place for breakfast afterwards, with Mr & Mrs Coddfish, and Oldgirlruns . A good time was had by all.
Yes mine was first weekend after graduation. I walked 5 mins ran 30 minutes with Jo Whiley and then walked until I was close to the finish line. Time 40:08
Happy parkrun anniversary to you Dexy5, another of those double digit times, 33.33, I ran that at Dunfermline parkrun when I was there a few weeks ago although my time at Dunfermline this morning was 32:30, in recent runs I have ran 32:32 and 31:31, that 31:31 was my quickest (not) parkrun.
Congratulations on your 5 years of parkruns โฆ now that is dedication. Thatโs a brilliant time too Dexy5. Iโm on a mission now to reduce my time so roll on next week for parkrun.๐โโ๏ธ๐โโ๏ธ๐๐
Well done on your Parkrun anniversary ๐๐. Your time is definitely one to record โบ๏ธ
Brekkie afterwards sounds fabulous - I always have to rush home to my 11 year old who Iโve left alone and is usually waiting for a full English brekkie ๐
Congrats to you Dexy5 for the amazing 5 year parkrunniversary! I was just up the road today at Whiteley. It was its 222nd event which attracted higher numbers than usual (there were 250 of us). Itโs a 4-lapper which I donโt usually like but it was just so lovely in the sun and chatting to other runners. I was first in my age group and for once it wasnโt just me in that age group ๐คฃ ๐ต๐ป. I will do this one again.
Well done on your first parkrun bradders. Donโt push yourself too much for those first few weeks post graduation though. Consolidation of those 30 minute runs is really important . I found out the hard way and ended up at the physio .
Brilliant. Congratulations on your first parkrun. Now you have a PB time to come back and try to beat next week. Try and beat it by just a few seconds, most importantly enjoy your parkruns.
