I never run before work usually, having convinced myself that I run better later in the day and feeling slightly horrified at the thought of getting up at silly o’clock! However, this week I thought I would bite the bullet and set the alarm for 5am and try to be the early bird!
So this morning, after half a banana and half a glass of water, I was out the door by 5.35 - halo already glowing above my head! 😂😇
Straightaway, the cool morning air felt wonderful following a warm, stuffy night and the early sun was low in the sky meaning it was easy to find shade - even better! Just a 5K around my local roads but it feels like you have those roads to yourself at this time of the day, with only a couple of other early runners and dog walkers en route.
This run really worked for me - I felt strong and relaxed throughout and it really set me up for the rest of my day at school. I will definitely do this more often - especially as we move through the hot days of summer!🙂☀️🏃♀️
Hope everyone is managing to stay cool in the heat!🥵🙂

Just super... what a terrific start to your day ! I used to go out at 5.30a.m. many years ago when I was teaching. I hadn't started C25K then but I used to do a walk/run, Scout's pace across the fields !
You had a beautiful run... will you stick at it do you think?
On Sunday runs, it helps if I can tell myself that I can lose that hour again by going back to lying in bed after my early morning run. (And after a stretch and shower, going to bed to read a book or read HU forums feels heavenly!)
Sounds just perfect at the moment Sandra. This week is only going to get hotter, so see how it goes. If you also need to clear the head after a day at work, you could try a walk instead. Win win
Morning runs are the way forward! On the few occasions I have run later in the day I’ve always found it more difficult but the 5:30am out of the door seems to work for me and really sets me up for the day. Glad you enjoyed your run and as you say, worth making it a more regular thing now it’s getting hotter!
I went out early too as I woke at 4 and then couldn’t settle- too light and too hot. And as you say it was lovely and peaceful and a lot cooler too. I had quite a busy day yesterday so I am going to chill out under my gazebo in the garden today and try to do as little as possible.
Well done on your early run!! It’s the best time in this hot weather 😁
That’s such a great quote! That’s going in my run diary. It’s a rest day here but I’m planning on an early start tomorrow. You deserve that halo! Great run and a great post ❤️
It helped me get out early (well, earlier!) this morning. I’ve been feeling great all day so far knowing I’ve got my run done. Thank you for sharing!! ❤️
Well done, that’s a great VERY early start 😊👍 I like running in the morning before breakfast but not usually before work. I always think it will make me too tired by the end of the day. It is interesting how we can convince ourselves of things - can’t run in the morning, can’t run in the heat, can’t run after work, can’t run full stop (my daughter says that 😂). BUT on Wednesday last week I woke early, about 6, and just felt like a run - so I was out of the door by 6.15 and did 3k, lovely and fresh. AND I managed a busy day at work too!
I was totally convinced I wouldn’t be able to run that early!! But it was fab and I definitely plan to do it more often - especially in the really hot temperatures!🥵🙂 Sounds like you showed yourself you could do it too - well done!
