It was all going so well, then…

I felt unusually good that morning, the sun was shining and there was next to no traffic so early. Mrs Garmin picked up a satellite very quickly.

For once, my legs were raring to go.

I had planned to do the 9•5 km route over 3 hard hills and found I was gaining more and more time. Arriving at the hour marker at 56 minutes and I made a fateful decision to extend the run by adding on 500m which involves crossing a field that is a public right of way. I usually avoid it outside Summer as it gets really muddy.

I got there and to my horror saw that it had been newly and deeply ploughed, and there was no going back. No hope of running so I picked my way over the furrow crests. Still, I had plenty of time in hand.

Back on the road with shoes caked with clay mud I resumed. Then, about 100m from the end I felt a buzz on my wrist and saw that Mrs Garmin had inexplicably powered herself off. She had plenty of battery and I hadn’t pressed any buttons.

Still, I really enjoyed the run even if I’ve got the job of removing half a field from the shoes which are consigned to the porch.

Great run shame about the techs! Sounds like your Mrs Garmin can be just as fickle as my Mr Garmin!
