Poppies all the way!

I’m a bit late in reporting my run this morning in aid of the Royal British Legion Poppy Run which I did with my dear support bubble of Dexy5 and UpTheStanley. We decided to run the Hayling Billy Trail which you’ll have seen from Dexy’s post is a disused railway line running down the west side of Hayling Island. Dexy and UTS did 10k and I did 5. A cool breeze but no rain and a beautiful spot for a gentle joffle. It’s a trail shared by horseriders, cyclists, walkers and runners and there were plenty of everything today! As Dexy said in her post, we saw another Poppy Runner and there was plenty of encouragement from everyone we saw. Mr and Mrs Coddfish arrived to do a (not)parkrun so I was delighted to be accompanied by Mrs C for my outward 2.5k. I turned for home and she carried on a bit further before turning back to complete 7k. I put my slow time of 50:07 down to all that avoiding puddles and muddy bits! We were all back at base by 11am and were able to do our act of remembrance overlooking the water. Coffee from flasks (no big breakfasts for now!) and presentation of my bling brought the morning to a close. But what a great way to raise funds for such a worthy cause!

Well done to you OGR on your run today and a great achievement to raise money for the Royal British Legion.

Portsmouth was the place my father and thousands of other soldiers set off for the D-Day landings in June 1944, I was named Alan I understand by a soldier named Alan who was killed in World War Two so my father told me when I was a child.

Thanks Alan; Portsmouth’s such an interesting place, you’re never far from some memorial relating to WW2 and in the years I’ve lived here there have been some amazing ceremonies!

Thanks for being part of the team Oldgirlruns; it was good to have you on board in your new trails. Very smart. I’ll see if I can help insert your pic tomorrow.

Not too bad thanks OGR I’m looking forward to summer - soon I hope, a little winter weary now and a bit of vitamin D would be very welcome. 😎

Absolutely, a run with friends on such a poignant day. Just terrific 👏👏👏

A fantastic run OGR! 🥰 So glad you got to run with lovely Mrs Coddfish again. Watching you two grinning away whenever Dexy5 and I passed you both during the VV10K was so lovely! 🥰

Are you sure the grins weren’t grimaces of pain?

Well if they were, they were very well disguised as smiles! 😅

Possibly ok once we get through the toxic 5 or 10. Have you got your smell and taste back yet?

I think it’s returning very gradually. Almost nothing, but not entirely nothing like it’s been this past week. Hope a bit more tomorrow. 🤞

It was their second outing - super comfy and sent me splashing through the odd puddle or 3!
