You know those runs when you just smile the whole time? That was me, today.
It seems to have been rainy and miserable for so long! When I woke up today it was a bit dull but at least it was dry. Time for a run. My husband didn't feel like it, but once I was all ready in my running gear he changed his mind, and suggested 5.5 km rather than the 6.5 km I planned the other day. Fine by me.
As we opened the hatch of the boat we noticed it had started drizzling. Oh dear, but we checked the skies and it didn't look like it'd get any worse so off we went, along the coastal path. The tide was very high and waves were breaking over the sea wall. It was so beautiful.
Watching the pattern of the breaking waves I realised that not every single one reached the wall. There would be a big wave then a gap while smaller waves hit, building up to another big one. Also, this only happened in certain locations, not at random, so I'd adjust my speed to allow the wave to cover the path then run as fast as I could to get past the danger area. Mr Y was behind me, taking pictures, hoping to catch me being soaked 😂
The sight and sound of the sea so close by, a good path, the smell of salt in the air, awareness of my feet hitting the ground in their rhythm led to a marvellous feeling of wellbeing for the whole run. Halfway through we turned. It looked a long way back from that perspective, alongside the cliffs to the distant marina.
As we neared the end there were several areas close together where the waves were breaking. I judged and got through then heard a howl. A huge wave had broken over my husband who'd hoped I'd mistimed this final gauntlet.
