This is great! I love the advice on prioritising running consistently and the benefits of just showing up. Avoiding comparisons by heading for trails is something I’ve accidentally fallen in to coming back from my fall so he gets a big tick from me for that one too! The bit about fixating on 5k struck a chord too-I think that’s a bit of a danger of the c25k programme. Finding trusted sources of information is such an important skill for life! It’s so hard to find the signal in the noise sometimes.

Thanks for sharing! I’ll definitely have a browse around his other videos.

Thanks nowster - that's possibly the only running-related video to which I've ever managed to relate at all!

Thanks Nowster, very helpful for a meddling beginner! I'm sure I've been guilty of the odd contradiction but consistent in motivation - keep running, keep smiling and posting the stats!

Oh, these are fab nowster! I agree with MissUnderstanding about the importance of consistency. I always run so much better when I just keep turning up and find that regular routine of running.

Off to subscribe!🙂

I really like this nowster, thank you. Very taken by the stuff about consistency and turning up and perhaps not committing yourself to some parts of training that really don’t suit you. Great advice.

Thanks nowster. Everything I thought about, doubts I’ve had over the years etc is in this video. It’s brilliant and my mind set has been changed in 10 minutes. Thank you. Now I’m just going to get out and run 🏃‍♀️

Useful and interesting and so much of what we talk about and share on the forums...the consistency bit; that resonates with so, so many of us. I know it is a bit of a bug bear with me when life or stuff disrupts that.

I like the reference to us all acting as an inspiration...we blinking well should! Also the bit about running for problem solutions... that as I well know, can get so out of hand! Connecting for the right reasons.

Also loving the reference to shaking up the runs,,, easing back and varying. It is something that although after graduation we talk about the running for 30 minutes bit. I always, still advocate the short, the slightly longer and the relaxed longer still run..

Thanks for posting this... it has been really useful for me right now, and, I do think, has gone some way to give some affirmation to the stuff that we try to share here on the forums?

Yup, a very good and honest video (only watched first one so far). I think I got a bit obsessed last year (it was my first year running after all) and was going a bit too fast and running in too many events to a point where my knee was so sore that I couldn't walk after my last run of the year. I took up slow heart rate based running and am getting to enjoy them. It also means that I can manage the pain (which is gradually getting better).

Thanks for posting this, nowster! It confirmed that I've done the right thing with backing off on trying to get to 10K. I was sleeping a lot worse - and after a while it dawned on me that it could be my running! It seemed silly to be thinking about overtraining, yet, I had many of the symptoms. So, I've now set myself the goal of "how slow can I go?" 🤣 And guess what! I've been sleeping better.

I also fell into the same route - and then measuring myself against myself - thing. So, yesterday, tired of the same boring route, I realized that I had a timed run, so I could just go wherever I want to (within reason since I didn't want to have to walk home 2 hours 😉). It was so much fun!

The only thing I found a bit frustration was the advice to run on trails. Well, you have to have access to trails first! I'd have to go somewhere else first, so I'd have to plan in more time... 🤔 now that I am typing this, though, I am already getting some ideas! 😎 Maybe it's not as inaccessible as I thought...
