youtube.com/watch?v=O1eyBVn... This looks interesting. I have heard of Nordic walking but never Nordic running . Do a Youtube search "running with poles" . I am thinking that this may be something for me to get back into running while reducing impact on my feet.

If you can manage it it sounds like a plan, to me it sounds like a great new way for me to fall over 😀

Those super running Mexicans run with those, as per that film you put on here a while back Baz. Stability in mountain terrain I think

It seemed strange watching a young lass running with them but they know what the crack is. Scott Jurek uses poles too, which appear in his recent pics.

I would add a word of caution here. I have had Nordic poles for years and used to use them before I started to run. I got mine out a few weeks ago before I was allowed to run again to walk with and they are hard work and not to be taken lightly. I ached so much just from a 16 min walk. I know I was coming back from an op but it made me realise if you do it properly they use something like 80% of your muscles and boy can you feel that afterwards but not while you do it so I would say start off really cautiously.

Thanks RFC. I think I must be around the point you were at some time ago. Can walk but not very well - can't get to 5K yet so maybe the 10K in 5 weeks time will not happen. Don't think running again will be on the cards for quite a while. In the meantime, I am pushing weights on the weight machines at the gym and learned how to programme intervals into the rowing machine yesterday - so am going to do C25K on it. Will try to progress through the "runs" in 2-3 weeks :) I understand that the Nordic walking is heavy going - that is why it is recommended above simple walking. Why do you not use them now? It seems to me that they would add an extra dimension to trail running and because they are not very common, would take away the unfortunate matter of "pace comparison" in the world of running?

It is something Im keeping on the back burner is o try later as such. I really think they would help with my core right now, but it's the old problem for me, so much to do and not enough time. Since MrRfc has got better we are back hiking again and I've started swimming for over all muscle tone along with going to the gym and running. Unfortunately I have no more spare exercise time ☹️☹️☹️☹️.
