Not Quite 3 runs in a week but 3 in 8 days .Sill keeping them short , still running the first k then run/walk on the second .
However, just 2x 30 second walks this time ...
So slow but getting there.
Even saw my horse friend again , then along the lane there was a chair by a gate but I resisted π€£
It's definitely feeling a little better each time .
We will see next time if I can get back to no walk break .... We will see but I won't push it !
So the new toy π
Well, I hate wearing big headphones and I'm not overly keen on earbuds however since I started running I have had 3 pairs , the ones with the over ear hooks as I can't keep the others in π
So now I finally decided on bone conduction .
So I went for the new Shokz (formerly Aftershokz)
They are the Open run pro
With a significantly improved audio from previous versions (certainly for music)
The enhanced audio comes at the cost of a reduced IP rating , they are 55 .
Having said that , that's about the same IP rating as myself haha π€£ (not a fan of rain running)
Anyway, very very impressed.
The 3 sets of earbuds I have had previously only cost me around Β£20 each pair !
I actually bought my first pair in China on one of my 4 trips there before the pandemic hit.
The ones from China actually lasted the longest .
So these Shokz will need to last a long time to justify the expense , however they are extremely comfortable, you really do not know they are there and it's so much better being aware of other sounds around you .
Actually I still have them on now as I'm typing this !
So , very happy with them so far! βΊοΈ
Happy running!

That's great, well done πππ getting back into it takes time but as you say, best not to rush it βΊοΈ I'm also building back but I'm keeping my walk/run routine for the time being. I'm in no hurry to get back to just running, just seeing how my legs and foot respond for now. Slowly does it! Nice new toy! I've heard very good things about those (after)Shokz. I'm still using the old fashioned plug in headphones! π But they keep my ears warm so I think I'll stick with them π
I thought the horse was your new toy, but how lovely to have a horse as a friend and a new way to listen to music, good to see you out running too, enjoy your headphones, π
Hurrah Ian! Well done, especially on resisting the strategically placed chair π€£. Funny how much more we notice seats and benches as runners. Great to see you got some new headphones too, I truly believe you earned them, and we all need a little treat every so often. All the best!
Well done Ian π Slowly but surely and you will get there.
I started off with an nasty pair of wired headphones from an old android phone then upgraded to Anker earbuds. I hated being aurally cut off from the outside world so ran with one bud in my ear and the other in my pocket.
Santa brought me a pair of (After)Shokz Christmas 2021. I love them and haven't looked back. It would be interesting to compare the sound quality but I don't think I can justify splashing out for the improved version yet a while.
Thanks Diane ππAnd yes, happy with the headphones, I really did not know I was wearing them ... I don't really know what the sound difference will be as I never wore the earlier ones , I'm sure they are fine πππΌπΆ
I love my Aftershokz but they've started playing up this week (battery issues). I bought them on Amazon and apparently there's a 2 year guarantee so, for once, I should be OK (bought them June 2021). Having had to run last time with old Android phone earphones with a wire I can't wait to get back to the 'Shokz!
Even so, 18+ months of trouble free usage isn't bad, though for the money I expect a bit longer.
Well, Amazon will give me a refund but it seems that Aftershokz have rebranded and the price has increased. I paid Β£69.99 but the cheapest option now seems to be Β£99.99, very annoying. Maybe I should ask Amazon to put me in touch with the manufacturer for a replacement.
In the meantime it's wiry headphones for me π±ππ
love your new toy Ianβ¦I also have open run proβsβ¦I won mine so I like them even better!!! Was gutted when I thought Iβd lost them the other week when I was cleaning the car outβ¦
Doesnβt matter that youβre taking a walk break does it? I have walk breaks all the time!! I see them as photo opportunities βΊοΈ
Thanks, haha yes the chair was a temptation!Just looked at the earbuds you mentioned and yes, similar to ones I have used except I liked with ear hooks, but similar price.
This is useful...I have the over ear but they are not working for me I need my hat pulled down too far! ... The earbuds I had to give up on a while ago, causing ear problems. I have very odd ears, very small ears! ....... How expensive are your new ones ? Do you think they are going to be worth it ?
A good run though... well done you...we are getting there... aren't we?
I think I might have thought I was imagining a chair if I was running and feeling tired, then suddenly there was one in front of me! Well done for avoiding the temptation to just sit and chill. Sounds like a great set of runs this week-so pleased youβre on the way back up again.
I bought myself some shokz in October and Iβve loved using them since. Absolutely worth the money for being able to hear traffic and Coach B at the same time!! Mine are the mini versions for small heads!! Glad youβre liking yours so far. Testing them further a good excuse/motivation to get out?
Loving your horse friend. β€οΈ There are some lovely ones around here which are either currently a little tubby or in foal. Feels like a dangerous question to ask the owner!!
Iβve bought a fair bit of kit since starting this running malarkey last year and those headphones are genuinely the best money Iβve spent. Absolutely brilliant.
Itβs amazing how much wanting to test a new purchase works as a motivating factor when youβre a bit half hearted about going. Iβve realised I absolutely hate carrying water in a hand held bottle so Iβve ordered a vest. Hoping that will have the same effect with wanting to to the longer runs in the programme Iβm doing at the moment.
I donβt like a bladder either. Iβve never got on with one on day walks. Soft bottles all the way! I canβt imagine Iβll ever be in the position where two bottles wonβt be enough water and Iβve just got something that looks almost identical to yours. It arrived (ironically!) during todayβs long run which would have been the ideal time to test it out. Ah well-next week will be the debut!
Hopefully the investment will be worth it just to stop me worrying about the long runs. Itβs a total overreaction to having to carry a water bottle. It will be better to have more room for snacks too!
Really enjoyed reading your run report from your vestβs last outing. A long way to go without headphones and shorts back to front made me laugh!
Good to hear the running is gradually improving. Welcome to the Shockz fan club. Love mine but I have found one problem- being so comfortable I have actually been known to put them on whilst collecting all my bits and pieces together for a run and then forget that I am wearing them and waste time trying to find them π.
Absolutely love my Shokz headphones Instructor57 - definitely worth the outlay, I reckon. Well done on building back the routine - sounds like you are taking the right approach and I hope you continue to make progress.π
I love the Open run proβs. But I have had one problem with them that Shokz support cannot sort out. When using couch to 5K the Bluetooth connection seems to go to sleep with my iPhone. This means that when words are spoken the first second or two is missing! When the connection has been established the sound is excellent.
