I haven't been out since Sunday as my flu jab left me with a very painful arm, but hey ho, better than getting ill. I decided it was my body telling me to let the vaccine do its job.
Today was a beautiful sunny morning for a run and the pain has more or less gone so no excuses, up and out. Looking through the window, everywhere was covered in thick frost, -2C. I checked my runs for last year, and yesterday was the anniversary of my -10C run. It was positively tropical by comparison π
Of course, the cold weather brings its challenges, mainly in what to wear. I settled on hat, gloves, silk scarf (couldn't find my buff), merino base layer, running jumper and warm leggings. Even my husband acknowledged the chill, finally wearing long trousers rather than shorts. He was going to go out in a short t shirt but thought better of it. Must've been cold π₯Ά
It was fantastic outside. The sun illuminated every hoar frosted blade of grass. The gloves and scarf came off but the rest of the gear was still needed. The earth was frozen hard so no mud or puddles to make a mess, but the surface is very uneven. It's very popular with walkers, cyclists and horse riders who have churned it up since the rain.
We did 5km, returning along the sea wall. It is so much better running in the cold than in the heat. At the end of it I felt I could have carried on, no sweat (groan!)
