I haven't run since the Virtual Vitality London 10,000 on Saturday. I was going to yesterday, but I managed to secure a last minute booking for a lane swimπββοΈ. So with another lockdown imminent the run had to wait. Sorry!
Then I was going to run this morning. But last night I fell asleep on the sofa with the US Election on the TV. Woke up at 1:45am. Went to bed. Woke up at 6:30am. Checked my phone and saw Trump had won Florida and turned over and went back to sleep.
So it had to be a lunch time run. With limited time, I elected for a short run and decided to give my trail shoes their second outing and do a short 3.5km circuit of the woods.
It was beautiful over there, albeit very muddy. My trail shoes loved it! The sun was shining for a change and the Autumn colours are wonderful right now, The woodland floor was all shades of yellow, orange and gold, carpeted in fallen leaves and I couldn't see any of the chestnuts on the ground that were there a couple of weeks ago.
It was about 9 degrees according to the thermometer on the back wall of the house. It's always a couple of degrees or so cooler in the woods so I opted for tights and lightweight long sleeved top. In hindsight shorts and T-shirt would have been a better choice. I saw one other runner - she had on a tights, long sleeved top, body warmer, woolly hat, scarf and gloves! π₯΅
I ignored my watch today and just ran, drinking in the sights, sounds and smells. The run itself was uneventful, until the last 0.5km which was along a narrow, minor path through a section of coppiced trees. There were so many fallen leaves that I lost the path and suddenly found myself having to fight my way through a tangle of branches and undergrowth! I ran this path through most of my c25k journey and it was almost unrecognisable. It's amazing how different the place looks and feels at different times of the year.
