A (mostly) Uneventful Recovery Run

I haven't run since the Virtual Vitality London 10,000 on Saturday. I was going to yesterday, but I managed to secure a last minute booking for a lane swimπŸŠβ€β™€οΈ. So with another lockdown imminent the run had to wait. Sorry!

Then I was going to run this morning. But last night I fell asleep on the sofa with the US Election on the TV. Woke up at 1:45am. Went to bed. Woke up at 6:30am. Checked my phone and saw Trump had won Florida and turned over and went back to sleep.

So it had to be a lunch time run. With limited time, I elected for a short run and decided to give my trail shoes their second outing and do a short 3.5km circuit of the woods.

It was beautiful over there, albeit very muddy. My trail shoes loved it! The sun was shining for a change and the Autumn colours are wonderful right now, The woodland floor was all shades of yellow, orange and gold, carpeted in fallen leaves and I couldn't see any of the chestnuts on the ground that were there a couple of weeks ago.

It was about 9 degrees according to the thermometer on the back wall of the house. It's always a couple of degrees or so cooler in the woods so I opted for tights and lightweight long sleeved top. In hindsight shorts and T-shirt would have been a better choice. I saw one other runner - she had on a tights, long sleeved top, body warmer, woolly hat, scarf and gloves! πŸ₯΅

I ignored my watch today and just ran, drinking in the sights, sounds and smells. The run itself was uneventful, until the last 0.5km which was along a narrow, minor path through a section of coppiced trees. There were so many fallen leaves that I lost the path and suddenly found myself having to fight my way through a tangle of branches and undergrowth! I ran this path through most of my c25k journey and it was almost unrecognisable. It's amazing how different the place looks and feels at different times of the year.

Well it sounds like a run worth waiting for😊

Your descriptions of the woods and Autumn colours are lovely. Sometimes it's just good to run without a target or purpose isn't it?

Yes it is for sure.

I'm glad to get this first post 10k run under my belt and a nice way to do it

That sounds like a really nice relaxing run, just what you needed after your 10k. 😁

Relaxing run? πŸ€” The word oxymoron comes to mind...

But yes it was a nice run and good to get the first one post 10k done

Sounds beautiful- I can almost feel the lovely cool air in my lungs from your description 😁 I think you probably benefited from the rest for a few days and glad to hear that you're back out there and had a great run today πŸ˜πŸƒβ€β™€οΈπŸπŸ‚

Well done for getting out. I've not been out since Sunday, but hoping today will be the day. It's a lot more differcult at this time of year. Think I need some more gear!!

Sounds a great run.

That sounds like such a lovely run!

I laughed though - just thought - all my shorter runs are now recovery runs!

Ha ha! Yes well that might be "recovery" in inverted commas!πŸ˜‚

I definitely needed to do that one though. It was just a shame it had to be a bit rushed

I need some routes like that !

I was back out today after 13 day's and it felt good to run again ,

I didn't see any other runners thus morning, but when I do , your right , it's sometimes a surprise to see what they are wearing , although they probably think the same about me πŸ˜‚

Thanks! I needed to get that one done.

It is lovely over there, but last night I heard that the unsavoury character is lurking about again, so it looks like I'll put that one on hold again for a while

Sounds lovely and just what you needed πŸ€—
