Good afternoon my lovelies...here we are again, another week under our belts!!!
How are you all doing??? I love reading all your posts about how you're getting on and to me, you all seem to be doing well and managing to stick to your goals?!
I have been carrying on with my plan and loving it...I do love this time of year, I know I keep harping on about the colours but honestly, the world is just beautiful!!! The only thing I don't like is the leaves on the pavements, it makes it sooooo slippy, thankfully though I have managed to stay upright so far. I have had three great runs this week, Sunday, Tuesday and Wednesday, I know, consecutive days, but that's what the plan said and to be fair Wednesdays run was only intervals, I am supposed to be running today but as I type this there is plenty of banging about going on upstairs as 4 fellas lay a new carpet, think they're all helping each other so they can get off to the pub!!! I'm sat here in my running gear though ready to get out ASAP!! I hope the cold and damp isn't letting those gremlins into your heads making it more appealing to be sat in front of the fire??!!!! Only 2 more weeks left before the chaos begins so lets make the most of what's left of November and get that stamina built up so we can last longer on the dancefloor at those Christmas parties!!! Keep posting so we can cheer each on!!
What is the Quest?
The aim of the Quest is to help you find a focus or goal that you would like to achieve by the end of the Quest period.
The Quest takes one calendar month. You can join at any point during that time.
We ask that you are a C25K Graduate before joining the Quest. The reason for this is that pre-graduation your week is very much structured according to the C25K programme, and we wouldn't want the Quest to interfere with that.
Most popular goals are:
★ To run three times a week
★ To slowly increase distance
★ To train for a specific race
★ To add Stretch and Strength exercises to your weekly routine
The Quest is a personal challenge, so it's completely up to you!
Have a great weekend everyone whatever you're doing and enjoy yourselves next week and I'll see you back here next Friday xxxx

I’ve been training for a 13K Mountain race which takes place tomorrow. All my training has been on the flat, and mainly 7K and 10K runs. I’ve been really busy with work over the last 2 weeks and also had a bad dose of man flu and have not been running as much as I have wanted to. So I’m no where nearly as prepared as I wanted to be. But I’m sure I’ll do fine. I’m looking forward to it and dreading it at the same time.
Oh WOW!!!! Mountain race?? Where?? What are work playing at?? Do they know you're a runner and that's more important??!!! haha...Sorry to hear you've been under the weather too, it can really take it out of you...and I've heard that Manflu is actually a thing!!
I know what a determined runner you are so I have every faith in your ability to smash this...Let us know how you get on, I cant wait to hear all about it...Good Luck..I will be cheering you on x
The mountain race is up in the Dublin/Wicklow mountains. All on rough trail and there is a 13K and a 26K option. I’m taking part in the 13K and will be running with my Sister.
Well done, MC! It has been lovely on and off, and I haven't been able to resist taking the odd photo in the middle of my runs. Also has been cold and wet though, and I've definitely been feeling disinclined to go out and exercise - but I've managed all but a bike ride this week!!
I'm on a roll with my 'Yoga for cyclists' campaign! Did TWO different ones this week, and I've been eyeing YouTube again today 😄
Global Fitness Network - found this a little harder to follow because she doesn't do mirror moves, but the yoga was a bit more hardcore which I do like 😊😊😊
You've done so well this week roseabi ...those look amazing, I don't know how you fit everything in!! I've tried a little bit of yoga myself this week and I could def tell the day after! I think I have new muscles in my stomach!! I've decided I want a six pack although I might not have enough life left to be able to achieve one but I am going to try...It's always good to have a goal 😄...Enjoy the week x
Here goes....I’ve continued doing my daily strength and flex after taking longer breaks between running to deal with a bit of hamstring tightness. After sensing a little dip in the early morning routine and later sessions creeping in 🤨, I decided that I’d had enough S&F to go out for another test recovery run! And in the snow, I might add!! 😲! ⛄️❄️🏃🏽♀️🏃🏽♀️! I’m trying to make it my favourite time of year 🤫😂!!
I’m back out tomorrow and it might just be the perfect time to get some added inspiration by going to PR! I’ll decide later tonight. 🤔
Happy running Mummycav (actually.... more happy running) and all you lovely runners out there! ❤️
Snow?????? Are you in Iceland Fab??? I admire your determination on making the winter your favourite!!! I actually don't mind running in the snow...might change my mind if I ever go A over T on the stuff though!! Did you do parkrun Fabulous450 ?? x
Alas no Mummycav! 🥴 I wasn’t able to get out early enough. My son was late and asked for a lift to work. Parking will probably be an issue now, as we are unlikely to be able to park on the grass inside the park now. So I just did my strength and flex instead. Same yesterday, but I was back out today! 🙌🏽 I can’t lie, I’m still not that feeling that “flowy” at the moment! 🤦🏽♀️ ❤️
You're so right Mummycav it is beautiful outside and we are making the most of it. I'm still running 3 times per week and every second Saturday at parkrun. I'm slowly increasing distance I'm at 7k and aiming for 8k on Monday.
How did your 8k go yesterday Buddy34 ...did you manage??? I had a great weekend but didn't get any running in...I danced my legs off on Saturday night when I went to see Mamma Mia in Bradford, so much so that after my run yesterday my legs, especially my knees were aching like a good 'un!!! Should feel ok for tomorrows run
You've had a busy weekend. Went out yesterday morning it was -4 but I seem to like running in those conditions. It was the best run ever I tried to keep it slow I had no problems legs and breathing were great . I was so amazed that I did it considering I thought 5k was my limit. 8k in 53 minutes . 🤗🤗
My quest this week has not gone to plan (due to the breakdown of a shower!) Ridiculous i know but time is everything. Its not likely to be fixed before Monday but as i will have more time, I aim to get another 2 runs in by Sunday so I meet my target for 3
Had success with pilates, and last night in desperation to do something i took to 30 minutes of hula-hooping...was great. No fancy tricks (i can't be taking the lights out too 😂) but a good core workout none the less.
Here's hoping activities resume as normal next week
Here's hoping alisonx !! Life does take over sometimes and time is precious...waiting for the torrential rain to stop and timing it with a gap in life to actually get some running in is tricky!! hoola hooping sounds like great fun...I have a wiiFit and I love doing the hoola hooping on there with the kids but I don't think i'd be any good at it really.....and I love pilates. Well done on your quest so far, good luck for next week
Haha - yes it has thank you. Shower is fixed so morning runs are back on the agenda i'm going to add hula hooping as a regular - great for the core! Easy to forget how much you enjoy things when you stop doing them!
I know!! How lovely...when I had my first child I was taken right back to how wonderous the world is....I saw things through different eyes....and the same has happened with running...I love being part of the outside world x
So, I have run for 5 mins on the treadmill. I am thinking 8 might be ok for next time, or do you think 5 then walk for 1 then another 5.... so many possibilities, while still being careful...
Anyway next run probably Monday, and then Thursday....
Plus, I intend keeping up the core and yoga work I've been doing...🧘♀️
Hope it's gone ok Bluebirdrunner ...Whatever you do you know to be careful, don't want you back on that IC!! I think I would do 5 and walk a bit...gently does it xx
Hi Bluebirdrunner ...Hows your quest going so far, I know it's only Tuesday but I wanted to check on your foot situation?? I'm hoping you're still on the mend? xxx
The run has slipped a day to today, as I need to go to the gym to do it. But I did a session of strength and yoga yesterday. 🧘♀️
Linda, ( who has recovered from a nasty foot injury herself just recently) suggested I start doing the foot stretching exercises now that my ankle is better. There are little niggly twinges in my right foot. So I'm doing those on both feet now too. 🤞
I really appreciate the lovely support from you and Linda and everyone. It helps a lot.😊xxx
OW! I had a treadmill run on Tuesday, which was fine and was due to go again today. But, ... and its been getting worse, the underside of my bad foot has become very painful. Not just to walk on but all the time. Not sure if this is plantar faciitus, but it is a stabbing pain and hurts a lot. Mr BBR wouldn't let me run ( I wanted to) and he is right I think. I thought I was doing all the right things, now I'm feeling miserable.
Back to rest and the IC. Physio appointment is next Monday. 🙁
OH NO????????? I have just moaned that out loud!! This is like the worst news this week!!!??!! 🙁 I wonder if the pain is because you have been walking differently on your foot because of your injury and that can sometimes bring on plantar facilitus...I know that because it happens to me sometimes...I can go for months without PF and then, I might wear my disco boots on a night out or flip flops in the summer and bang, PF rears up its ugly head...under my foot and my toes...it's sooo painful...I hear your squeals!! Have you got some of those ankle things that wrap round your foot leaving your heel exposed??? You can get little sock type ones aswell??? I have got a few because you just never know...Oh that IC is not letting you go is it??!! Rest and massage, Mr BBR needs to get his massage fingers on and get this sorted pronto!!! Sending you a healing hug...hope you've got a cushion for that IC?! xxxxxx
It is a shock....I only go it after I started running..its a killer...and it is to do with the arch in your foot dropping apparently...if you type in Plantar Facilitis on Amazon, theres loads of stuff to help xxx
Hi Mummycav it's been a great week of runs, week 4 complete. The s & f unfortunately has gone a bit as I've been furiously finishing all the painting and decorating. All complete now after a mammoth effort . Visiting parents to be this weekend, quick hello then out for a run when I arrived and will fit in another on leaving. Was really chuffed with my 33min 5k and ignored fact soninlaw does his 5k in 20mins, he is a super fit bundle of muscle and 30 years younger. Happy running everyone x
Sounds like a plan Grannyhugs ...as you know a 33 min 5k is just as far as a 20 min 5k...and just as important too!! You can always get back to S & F ...I'm sure you'll have been doing plenty of stretching while decorating?!! Have a good week x
My garmin states I've had 440/150 mins activity this week, pretty average week for me. So yes I lead a very active life. I generally burn 2300 calories a day, theres not a lot to me so food features regularly in my life to keep me going.
Morning Grannyhugs , hope you managed to get your tourist runs in over the weekend? It's freeeeezing this morning, with a proper frost on the ground her in good old Yorkshire, my next run is tomorrow so I'm hoping it's not a slippy one!!!
You take care out there. Got a great run in thanks then home to freezing weather and made myself I'll running. 10:30 and still -2 so I'm having serious rethink about continuing on 10k route as body cant tolerate this amount of time out in freezing conditions. Can still cope with shorter runs outside
Hi. I'm hanging in there and trying for 3 runs a week( 1 usually parkrun). But at the moment only averaging around 15 to 20k a week... I want to get back to longer runs. But life, a few gremlins and lazyness, plus the weather and the DARK. ... keeps stopping me
I know what you mean Deals1 , this plan that i'm on doesn't really do many long runs so my mileage has definitely gone down, I'm sure there will be longer runs as I get further on but I'm missing the longer runs as I get so much satisfaction when I see a bigger number on my watch!! Don't let those gremlins win...they have no place in your life whatsoever...and the dark, yes, the dark...well, I suppose it's better to just go out and do a couple of Kms rather than none at all....I am now sat looking out of the window into the darkness think 'should I, shouldn't I???!' Hmmmmm...I haven't run since Wed, that's disgraceful...I have had such a good week of running but it all went pear shaped at the end of the week with stuff going on...I'm feeling guilty now...
Morning Deals1 ...how are you doing?? I am sitting here with my fingers crossed that those gremlins have not made a nest in your head??? Hope your quest for this week is going to plan so far?? 😊
ah thanks so much Mummycav , I'm on my lunch at work so just catching up on here.
Sorry to say the gremlins won this morning!! I set my alarm then snoozed for an hour and a half! whilst I also kept calculating in my head if I had time to run and shower before work... then it just got too late and the gremlins said nooooo.. I should have just set the alarm later and slept properly!
Anyway your message has helped, thanks. I'm gonna chuck them out tonight and go out for a small one. Also planning on a lunchtime run with work pal Thursday
I'm guessing you have now ran?? not seen any other posts yet. don't feel guilty!
I did buy new trainers Saturday (pic/post will follow, at some point, and I did pilates yesterday)
Hi all. 😊 Not a productive running week for me. Niggle in my left arch got bothersome so I stopped ignoring & and got Wonderful Wendy (my chiropractor) to pull, stretch & shove - my goodness there are a lot of complex muscles, tendons & bones in the foot! 😳 Now equipped with glute & core exercises and I’ve been trying to be diligent. Three nights on the edge of Dartmoor were restorative, and I did good up hill walking (😨), but no runs. Hope the foot copes when I trundle off on Sunday morning....
Yep. Cheerful 5K and no problems. Hope to get out again Wednesday or for sure on Thursday. Life is keeping me rather heavily scheduled this week. Oh well.... 😊
Hey there MC, hope you managed to get out there once your carpet fitters had gone to the pub 🍻
I've done my 3 runs, my pace has declined as 2 were in the dark, wet weather but I don't mind, just enjoyed getting out there!
Loved the last one as I wore my new stuff..thermal leggings, bright yellow windproof light raincoat and thin running gloves. All worked to plan, wasn't too warm in the coat which as it's very thin and has vents. Was pleased with my purchases and felt like a proper legit runner in them 😆
My long run was shorter than intended as I'd been feeling under the weather but again I didn't mind as Saturday night I'd thought I'd have to forget it, slept for 10 and a half hours (Wow 😳) and felt a bit better, decided to do a slow 5K but it went well so ended up doing 7.5. Not bad for a short run. Hoping to get back to double digits this Sunday.
Oooo, I feel warmer already reading about all your gear...I bet you def looked the part?! You must've needed that sleep Run46 ...I don't think I've slept that long since I was about 16!!! I didn't get out after the carpet fitters, they were ages and they left a right old mess for me to clean up!! Then it got too late....no chance for a run on Sat so I haven't run since Wed!!! Aaarrrrgh!! I feel so guilty!
Running is def awesome...I have never felt so passionate about anything!! I want to shout it from the rooftops!!
Hello lovely friend...you are most definitely getting the runs in !
I am getting them in... three times a week... so that bit of my goal target is fine..but the longer runs !!
Nope!
I am just not finding the time to do them... so much going on and the weather has been dire which has not helped .
On the plus side??? My pace has increased with no real effort...
I run up hills a lot... and that has given me increased strength and stamina... and the short runs make for speed..( Did I just say that) !
I shall persevere... because.. I start my official HM training in a few weeks time, for my March HM 2020.
I am going to follow the same plan? a tweaked version of the one I did for the HM in March this year.. it was the one roseabi complied and suited me perfectly. Just hope I don't get the snow and ice that went with it, this time round!
Thanks Oldfloss ...I did get my 3 runs in last week but the end of the week just fell apart and I am dying to get back out there!! That is fantastic that your pace has increased, that's what I'm working on but I'm not sure it's working?!! I'm enjoying the practice though! I can only see Kate Bush now that you've mentioned running up hills!! You are braver than me Floss, I can just about do slopes!! This HM plan that roseabi sounds like it will get you on the right track with your training and March will be here before we know it! Happy running this next week Floss xxx
Thanks you..hills really work..got my first sub...yes SUB...30 minute 5K this morning.. first 2 and a half K all uphill!!! Yeayaya... I'm excited...can you tell? Xxxx
Oh my GOODNESS Oldfloss ...I'm excited for you!! My stomach did a little flip when I read that!!!! WOO HOO a sub 5k...I would DIE for that!! Excellent news and one that has put a big smile on my face...you are amazing my lovely friend, just amazing xxx
I did my second stint at park run marshalling and it was lovely. A woman fell and cut her nose and lip so I walked her back to the start/finish whilst leaving Mr Noo in charge of the marshal position. He took his responsibilities seriously It was great to talk to her. She was in the 65-69 age group and had done a marathon 2 weeks ago. She took up running at the age of 56. She encouraged me to try for a half marathon. I reckon she stumbled because she was tired.
This week, I got in two 5kms and one 7km and my knee/ITB feels much better. So I'm hoping to do 8km tomorrow. I'm trying to get in my wall squats and rolling too although it doesn't happen every day. Have a good week all.
Wow, that lady sounds amazing...poor thing though, I hope she was ok? I'm sure tiredness had something to do with it?? Those are great distances for you to be covering Hidden ...I hope you managed to get the 8k in today?? Glad your knee is on the mend and I'm sure the rolling and squats will help how ever many you're doing. Have a great week x
Thanks. Yes I did my 8km by the sea. I faffed around for a while, looking for a hat and gloves. Wondering if i should run after a big lunch. I did but I wouldn’t recommend it. So I’ll take a couple of days rest now.
I've not caught up with the swimming but I did get one in so it's not all sliding away from me and clocked up a decent time really considering I've been out with a bug for a month and got a stitch too.
Not had a run this week so, as for the swimming, I need to get an extra one in somewhere.
Yoga's trailing a bit.
My resting heart rate has finally dropped back down as I have recovered from the bug.
Oh dear, sorry to hear you've been under the weather GoogleMe but at least it sounds like you're on the mend...be kind to yourself...these things can really take their toll. Have a good week x
Struggling a bit since graduation tbh. I've been aiming for 2 runs a week and to keep going with the 30 mins.
Managed to get out the door twice a week but find I either do the 30 mins no problem, ooooor it's absolutely horrible and I cant run for more than perhaps 5 minutes at a time! So frustrating. Of my last 4 runs I think 2 have been successful 😕
Probably all in my head but no idea how to get past it. And its really taking away from my (already minimal!) enjoyment.
Sorry to be a Debbie Downer after reading everyone else's lovely positive comments 😂
Hey Parky88 ...that’s what we’re here for...not everyone’s runs are perfect...honestly, I am right with you there, I often come home wondering what the heck I’m actually doing! But I keep hacking away at it because I enjoy it...setting myself no goals, or doing a plan works for me. Look at some of Jeff Galloway plans Parky...I bet you’ll like them...try not to be disheartened with your running, I have been where you are...I just want robot legs on every run but it doesn’t happen, we have to try..and push ourselves...instead of aiming for 30 min runs...just aim for maybe 20 mins...or 3k...finish a run on a positive...don’t aim for 5 if you’re just not feeling it because that will just end in tears...and don’t be too hard on yourself...if you run, doesn’t matter how far or how long...you are a runner xx
Thank you! Mr Parky is a seasoned runner and keeps telling me the same- it's not always easy, everyone had bad runs- its just hard to believe coming from him though as he makes it look so easy!
Tried again this morning, set out on a similar route to usual although didnt think too much about doing 30 mins or covering the same distance, just got on with it. Went much better than last time although still hard work. Might try going out with that attitude next few times and see how I get on
Will look into the other plan you mentioned too, thanks x
That sounds more like it...and yes, other runners always look like they're seamlessly gliding along when really there is a Battle of Hastings going on in their head!!! How do they do that??!!! I must look like I'm running through treacle when another runner runs passed me because that's how it feels sometimes!!!! I think you're right though, going out with a more positive attitude will def help...you can do this x
