Hi November Questers, how did your first week for the November Quest go?, as for me, I ran my longest run ever, 20.59 kilometers on Wednesday and on Saturday took my daughter Gillian to Drumpellier Parkrun, she walked the course and enjoyed it so much that she told me later that she would consider registering soon to enable her to get a barcode.Just a reminder of what Quest is:-to run 3 times a week, :to slowly increase distance and pace, :to train for a specific race and add stretch and strength exercises to your weekly routine, good luck to everyone training on their second week of this year's November Quest ✅👍🏃🏾

I have had a bit of a rest following all my recent events bar a random 5k.

I didn't want to lose my baseline so I went back to parkrun on Saturday and did a half marathon distance yesterday. I was mostly ok for the run apart from the last 2k where I began to suffer.

Well done to you Freecloud, you did very well running this week, especially that HM after your parkrun on Saturday, yes the last 2K of a HM can make some runners suffer, perhaps that's the reason I stopped running that 20.59K run last Wednesday, but for me I had set a time limit to my run which was 2 hours 45 minutes, I am sure you won't loose your baseline..

Ha-ha-ha I might well do the same at the end of my long runs. You did the right thing when you stopped at your set time, I have done a few like that and have just stopped as well. Although I have to admit that I have been tempted sometimes just to round it up to complete the km.

Hi AlMorr , well done, nearly 21km, exhausting even to read that!!

My goals:

- run 3 times a week: yes, so far so good :) 3 runs and 2 badges from NRC so smashing that. The badges were '3x in a week', so it's Official lol, and the Halloween badge, yes I know that run was in October but it was within the first week of the challenge.

- do at least one Parkrun: no, no Parkruns round here (I'm in Greece), in fact I haven't yet located a park so that's a good excuse I think. I did a Not Parkrun on Saturday though.

- do a couple of longer runs (around 8 km): no, it's been quite warm and there are a lot of hills. This Quest goal can wait until I'm back home in 10 days' time when it'll be cold and a lot more inviting...unless I decide I fancy a longer run. The weather is considerably cooler now so it might just happen.

- preparation for the Southend Rudolph Run on 11th December: I've not yet signed up for this as I want to see what the weather looks like and also whether I've trained enough. Again, this will wait until I'm home

Finally - don't hurt myself: so far so good.... 🤞

Happy Questing everybody :)

Oh Yesletsgo I was looking at the Southend Rudolph Run, but we may be in South Wales for grandsons birthday and pre Christmas visit. Its very tempting though...

Congratulations to you Yesletsgo on getting that Halloween badge and 2 badges from NRC, although the weather in the UK has been a bit wet with a lot of rain, it's not been cold, the temperature has been way above average, in some places in England the temperature recently got to 21C/70 F, perhaps by the time you get back from Greece the weather will have cooled down a bit, happy running to you 🏃🏾🏃🏾👍✅

I'm looking forward to some chilly winter runs, love the frosty mornings ❄️❄️❄️☃️

So do I but not if the surfaces are very icy and dangerous for 🚶, walking, let alone 🏃🏾. running.

Yesletsgo profile image

Absolutely, if it's icy I won't go out, but if it's cold and dry and sunny I'll be out there!

Hello AlMorr hope you're well. Congratulations on completing your longest run. I hope you aren't missing Eeshan too much. My quests this week have been a bit of a mixed bag

1) NO - run at least 3 times a week. Felt very fatigued with tired and achy legs so decided just to do my long run yesterday

2) ALMOST - continue with garmin coach HM training plan for race in November. Only did one of the three training runs this week as I felt very fatigued but managed my long run yesterday of 18.41km

3) ON TRACK - finish first HM race in November. I'm currently on the injury couch as the twinge in my foot I endured on yesterday's long run has gotten worse. I'm hoping it will get better with one or two weeks rest and I'll still be able to do my HM race which I have spent 18 weeks training for!

4) YES - do at least 2 cross training sessions a week - one should be strength. Did 4 YWA sessions all of which involved strength.

5) ON TRACK - run at least 2 parkruns to tick off my alphabet challenge - one in Lincoln. Didn't do any parkrun this Saturday as I felt very fatigued but I'm still hoping to be able to do one in Lincoln in a few weeks time if I manage to get off the injury couch.

6) YES - have at least one rest day a week - had 3.

Hope you have a good 2nd week and thank you for keeping us accountable 🤗

That's awesome for your daughter King Alan 🤴

Indeed GTFC, my daughter Gillian enjoyed her parkwalk around the same course at Drumpellier Parkrun that you Tasha and me ran back in August.

Good evening Jogger22, I am keeping very well thank you, I do miss Eeshan a little bit, she was good company for me but I'm feeling OK, anyway I am sorry that you are feeling a bit fatigued although your other exercises seem to be going well, you were very wise on taking 3 days off instead of one, no point in harming yourself, well done on your parkrun alphabet challenge, keep going to the letter z if there is a parkrun starting with that letter. 😊 🏃🏾

Hello Al, you've had a great week and your daughter had a great time walking park run. Us? Um nothing to report, we have had torrential rain, high winds and I go to and come home from work in the dark, add in a CT scan on my only day off, so nope no running at all although I have walked on the downs every evening and played ball with the dog, one more day if work and I have 5 days off so running will resume, my quest is to walk or run 5 k every day .Happy questing all

AlMorr profile image
AlMorrAmbassadorGraduate10 in reply toSueAppleRun

Hi, my daughter enjoyed her parkwalk on Saturday, I walked 1K and ran 4K starting at the very back with the parkwalker, just in front of the tailwalker.I am happy that you have walked every evening on the downs and played ball with the dog. You will be able to run/walk hopefully a 5K every day when you are off work for those 5 days, good luck.

Coming out of a mystery cold-like bug here. It drained my energy, had me eating lots, and (along with the awful weather) stopped me running.

My plan for the rest of this month is to bounce back to something like the level of activity that I was doing back in August.

AlMorr profile image
AlMorrAmbassadorGraduate10 in reply tonowster

Sorry about your mystery cold bug nowster, you were very wise in not running because of it and the bad weather too, you always report all your runs in such detail, all excellent runs and reports.I am sure it won't be long before you can get back to the level of running you were doing in August ✅👍

Hello Al and running beings.

I just realised I’ve only managed 2 runs in week one as I didn’t fancy getting soaked today. I ran one on a treadmill in the gym but I got far too hot despite the air conditioning and I don’t think I’ll repeat that too often. Then no 2 was at Severn Bridge parkrun, which I’m sure everyone has heard enough about already. ❎

The Pilates session was good and my strength is improving ✅

My parkrun was a tourist run ✅

I didn’t Increase the length of one run this week but I hope too in week 2 if that wind dies down a bit. ❎

So I’m halfway there!

AlMorr profile image
AlMorrAmbassadorGraduate10

You have had a very good week Dexy5, well done, yes the highlight of your week was the big meet up with your VRB at the Severn Bridge parkrun on the occasion of Cheekychipmunks 💯parkrun, you posted great photos of it, good report regarding your Pilates and strength training, well done 😀 I just hope it's not too windy for any outdoor running you do, I think you prefer outdoor running to the treadmill.

Was kind of dreading this post appearing because I’m on a big fat zero on my quest goals. I did run three times but they were all only about 15minutes each and I’m on my lowest distance total for ages. I’ve also had a cold and it’s knocked me for six. No yoga. No swimming. Trying not to feel too down about it-it can’t be helped.

I’m feeling a little bit better today so might get out for a super easy run/walk later. Hopefully this week will be better than last week!

Congratulations on your longest ever run. That needs some serious celebration! 🏃‍♀️ 🎉🥳

AlMorr profile image
AlMorrAmbassadorGraduate10

Don't worry about that Miss Understanding, you have had a cold and as you say it's knocked you for six, no one is going to run for any distance or speed when they are not feeling well, my quest for November was to run for 6 miles, not the length of 20.59 kilometers I ran last Wednesday and certainly not a Half marathon, but as I said last week I may try that HM in December, weather permitting.

MissUnderstanding profile image
MissUnderstandingAdministratorGraduate10 in reply toAlMorr

Thank AlMorr , that’s a really encouraging reply. You’ll absolutely nail that HM. If you do go for it, I’ll be virtually cheering you on!

Have turned a corner a bit this morning and managed to get out for a very nice little 4.3km wet ‘n’ dry run. Hammered down when I left the house. I nearly decided to bin it but decided would just stop after five minutes and turn back if I wasn’t having fun but I was! I’d forgotten how much I love a properly wet run. Rivers cascading down the road, massive puddles, the full shebang! The rain stopped halfway round just as I hit the top of a hill. Second half was all downhill, sunny and I was steaming hot. It felt really good to be out there again. My trainers might take a while to forgive me though! One run this week ticked already. Now for a cup of coffee to celebrate!

AlMorr profile image
AlMorrAmbassadorGraduate10

Well done on going that run in the heavy rain ☔, you deserve to be very proud of yourself considering the conditions, your trainers will dry in a few hours depending how warm your house is,

Hi Al and fellow questersCongratulations on your longest run that's a great achievement.

I only managed to do one run in the last week, looking back I'm not even sure why I didn't do any more. At least the one I did was 11.5k my longest run this year and can give me a quest ✅ for one 10k run this month.

My other quest was to work on leg strength, I keep forgetting to do the squats so that's been a bit hit and miss but I've done Pilates for knees plus my physio exercises. I've also been joining in with the monthly YWA over on S and F, with 6 sessions last week.

So generally happy so far 😊

AlMorr profile image
AlMorrAmbassadorGraduate10

I am happy that you are generally happy with yourself dijep, those other exercises are very important as well, I have not done Pilates but have done some squats, planks, pushups and I have a pair of kettlebells which I do excersises as well, I suppose that would come under the heading of strength and flex to help us runners

Oldgirlruns profile image
OldgirlrunsGraduate10

Hi Al, not sure I’m going to be totally on top of my quest goals for November but I’m further ahead than I have been in the last few months!

Running - so far I’ve only been out once but we’re not half way through yet so there’s time to catch up! Hoping to run tomorrow - the forecast doesn’t predict any rain for the first time in ages!

Swimming - that’s a bit better and I’m managing at least 2 if not 3 sessions in the pool; today I did 44 lengths of a 33metre pool which was good fun.

AlMorr profile image
AlMorrAmbassadorGraduate10 in reply toOldgirlruns

Wow, that was amazing Oldfloss swimming 44 lengths of that 33 metre pool, I am sure it was good fun, after all that swimming do deserve to take the running, guess what, "slow and steady" 👍🏃🏾

Hi Al! Sounds like you’ve had a great week. I haven’t set any goals, but I was at the big Severn Bridge parkrun meet up on Saturday and I went for a 11k run around Stratford upon Avon with TailChaser on Sunday morning, meaning I did 4 runs last week totalling 28k. Thankfully I seem to be finally getting over the cold I’ve had since early October!

AlMorr profile image
AlMorrAmbassadorGraduate10

That was lovely for you Sandie1961 meeting all your running friends at the big meet up at the Severn Bridge parkrun on Saturday on the occasion of CC's 💯parkrun, well done on those other runs too, especially the very early Sunday morning run and all those runs adding up to 28 Kilometres, happy that you are getting over your cold.

Birdlady64 profile image

Very well done Al on your 20.59km run. Such an awesome run for you.I was trying to extend my distance and did get up 7 miles but I think the HM plan will go on hold.

My Quests, and in particular my longer runs, seem to have petered out since my holiday last month. Now the days are shorter I find it hard to fit in any long runs. And I don't want to put myself under any pressure.

I still aim to run 3 times a week, maybe one speed run, a 4 or 5k and something a little longer at the weekend.

But my main Quest will be to keep ticking over and just enjoy my running. Oh and to properly try out my new chest torch! 😁
