Yes, when I think of the actual distance I run compared to the bike rides on roads I cycled this summer I feel quite proud of myself, none of the bike rides I did this summer were as long as that run, many years ago I cycled the equivalent of a marathon and ultra marathon, not now, my longest bike ride this year in the summer was 17 kilometers.

I am still amazed sometimes that I run routes that I had only ever driven before I started running. It’s pretty nifty isn’t it 😊. Well done again on your longest run.

Thanks Frenc, whenever I am on a bus, train or car whenever I see a 10 miles sign I always feel a little chuffed with myself that I have now ran that distance. 😊 🏃🏾

That’s exactly right, Al. For long drives I compare the distance with a year’s accumulation of Parkruns! Congratulations again on a great run.

Thank you very much HeavyFoot, however, when I am on a bus, train or car I certainly at that moment would not want to get off and run that distance there and then, for a longer run than as little as 3K you have to be prepared and dressed in the correct running clothes including proper running shoes.

PS Update HeavyFoot, I have been looking at my running diary which goes back to run 3 of week 5 of C25K which I ran on Monday 21st May 2018, it took me a couple of hours working all the runs out which were at least 3K or longer, my total distance in kilometers upto my midweek 3K run on Wednesday 11th January 2023 were 2,131 kilometers/1,324 miles,

That's great Al. Nice to see the map of that awesome run of yours. I am sure you will be able to run a HM

I began that long run at my usual place that I run a 5K or 10K, after 1K I run around a housing estate where most of the owners own more than one car, I have measured this part as exactly 1 Kilometre, I ran around that two times, at 4 kilometers I cross a boardwalk at the edge of that loch, I ran around the loch 3 times, eventually I got to 16K/10 miles, walked for two minutes, then ran around that 1K housing area again, under a underpass, walked up a rather steep hill for about 90 seconds, ran again for most of the rest of the run ending not far from where I live in the nearby park that I run if it's raining, it was just a little short of HM, the next time I run that distance it will be a HM, thanks 👍

You rightly deserve to be proud Alan. Your achievements are exceptional my friend. Your HM will come in time if it's what you are after then you'll have that HM badge. Keep being you mate 🏆😀

that is a fantastic distance. the stretch alongside the lake looks like it would be a beautiful place to run.

AlMorr profile image
AlMorrAmbassadorGraduate10 in reply to Cantstopmenow

I agree with you that 20.59 K is a fantastic distance to run, not done that before but in March of 2021 I did walk a HM and only ran a little so I didn't count that as running, the part alongside the loch (lake as in England, loch in Scotland) is a beautiful place for walking, running and cycling, the Campsie Hills arn't too far away adding to the beauty.

Cantstopmenow profile image
CantstopmenowGraduate10 in reply to AlMorr

Ah, yes, I should have said Loch. We've got family and friends in Scotland, so I should know better!! I would like to build back up to 10miles or half marathon. I haven't run that distance for over a year.

Top job Al. That’s such a wonderful distance, not too long not too short and has many great ingredients of various runs. Why did you stop short of HM?

AlMorr profile image
AlMorrAmbassadorGraduate10 in reply to mrrun

I never intended to run a HM mrrun, I set off to run 10 miles without stopping or walking which I did achieve, at 10 miles I felt great, had a quick 2 minute walk, set my running time for 2 hours 45 minutes and just carried on running, at 2 hours 45 minutes I did stop running and noticed the distance of 20.59 kilometres which as you say isn't too far off the half marathon distance, later this year I do intend to run a Half Marathon on all of the parts I run such as a 5K, 10K and the 6/10 mile runs I have ran, for example I'll run 2K in the park that is only a 2 minute walk from where I live, then the route goes through a few short streets, crosses a main road and motorway, after that I'll run around a small pond which is exactly 1K, I sometimes run around that pond 3 times as a 3K "maintenence run" on a Saturday when I am not at parkrun, after that I will go onto my normal 5K/10K+ route around the loch a few times then return to the park near to where I live, that should altogether get me to the HM distance of 21.1Kilometres, that run will be sometime before the New Year.
