Great South Run mahoosive meet up

Well, what can I say! I’m not sure I’ve still really managed to process it all. Thanks to Dexy5 who wasn’t running this year, but who willingly took on the job of organising us, we had a brilliant weekend. After checking into our hotels on Saturday, we all met up at an Italian restaurant for the obligatory carb loading, then returned to the Queen’s in Southsea where most of us were staying, for a very teetotal drink (except for Mr cheekychipmunks and Mr Sandie1961, who disappeared off to the bar, as they weren’t running, but acting as cheerleaders). After a slight disturbance from the hotel fire alarm, Sunday dawned bright and thankfully wind free (weather wise 😂) despite the weather forecast for much of the week, so we toddled off to the start line which was all of 200m from the hotel 😃😃 I met up with linda9389 and @roseabi and we strolled down to the start line (20 minutes) together, had a selfie, crossed the line and within 200m they had left me for dust 😂 The first 7-8 miles went fine, but then I started to struggle a bit, although I was determined to run it all this year. Finish time 1.55.02, which was 3 minutes slower than last year, but, you know what, I didn’t care. It’s a fab race and it was fantastic to meet up with so many HU friends, both running and supporting. Roll on next year 😃😃

Ha ha, now you know how I felt when we started together at the London 10k- off you were in a puff of smoke! I’m so glad you got to meet roseabi though.

We really were lucky with the weather, it was very windy on Saturday and then it absolutely poured down on Sunday evening.

So very well done Sandie, a lovely T-shirt and a new medal, and a brilliant time in my eyes. It won’t be long until the next (shorter) event, which will be a hoot.

Brilliant !

sounds like you all had an amazing time and great to see HU well represented 😁

Sandie1961 profile image
Sandie1961Graduate10 in reply to Instructor57

We really did! To some extent the race was the excuse for us all to get together and, especially, to meet in person some of those we hadn’t met in person before, but whom we regard as friends because of HU. Wonderful!

Absolutely, sounds brilliant

Superb run Sandie and an amazing time in fairly warm conditions. You get the prize for the quickest musketeer…maybe I need an age adjusted score these days! Just a really lovely weekend which will live long in my memory. I have just woken up in my chair!

It was great to have all 4 musketeers together for the first time wasn’t it and fantastic to finally meet you. I was only just quicker than you despite your calf, so once your physio has sorted you out again, I’m sure you’ll be faster. We’ll have to see next time we meet 🤪

Wasn’t that the best weekend Sandie? You’re a speedy one even when you think you’re not. 💥 Hope you’re enjoying your hard earned bling as much as I am! 🏅

I’m glad the cheering hubbies got to hang out together again too! Cheeky monkeys sneaking off to the bar, in the most secluded spot possible! 😅

See you again extremely soon. 👏

Wasn’t it just? 😃😃 My medal hanger is now completely full, so I don’t know where the Venice one is going to go 🤷‍♀️ The hubby hunt was so funny 😂 They, of course, had their own tea/coffee drinking marathon while we were pounding the streets!

Oh yes, roll on Severn Bridge 🐈‍⬛

A year in the planning Brian, reunions with some and first time actual meetings with others. It couldn’t have gone better, other than if we had all actually been fully fit 🤧🤕 Venice this weekend 🇮🇹 😃😃

RunBrianRun profile image
RunBrianRunGraduate10 in reply to Sandie1961

I can imagine running in Venice might be a bit tricky with the tourists, narrow footpaths and of course those canals, but it sounds amazing and something I would love to do at some point in the future!

There will be a report, so I’ll let you know how it goes

I've really enjoyed reading the posts about this event but it didn't really register how many of you did it. It's brilliant that all met up.

Congratulations, that time sounds amazing to me 👍☺️

Sandie1961 profile image
Sandie1961Graduate10 in reply to dijep

Thank you 😊 The numbers actually increased even during last week, as they obviously hadn’t had as many registrations as they wanted, so there was some serious marketing going on! It all worked out perfectly!

My GSR app is heaving with all the names of people I know who were there, including a C25K graduate from a group I organised 3 years ago who now lives in Pompey!

A fantastic day with fantastic company both on and around the course 😎👍
