Beautiful long (for me, presently) 6.4k run this morning, passing allotments (blackberries season is over), young cows in the fields, leafy autumnal (already ?!😱) woods, and sunny field paths.
Coach Bennet, on his “Four-mile Head Starts” run, told me that every training plan is developed by an optimist. Thus every plan needs a good coach (self-coach) to amend the plan as you go along. Amend it because of rain, or heat, or injuries, or work, or all sorts of things. I really liked his ideas, and the interaction with his sound engineer was brilliantly funny.

And then, while I was enjoying the beautiful green and leafy surroundings, the perfect sunny fresh-morning weather, a song from Jeff Wayne’s War of the Worlds came on: Brave New World. It reminded me that we here in the 21st century also are in peril and that we have to undergo the daunting task of rebuilding our civilisation along more environmentally sustainable premises. And how far away we are from achieving that necessary, existential basis. (“It may not sound like heaven, but at least it’s not hell.”)
But even though it was a sobering thought, I couldn’t help but enjoy this perfect running weather and this perfect route!

And after finishing the run, I discovered I bagged a 3rd fastest run in the 6-8k distance category on Runkeeper, which has now 330 tracked activities!
Even this ultra-slow snail is getting faster! 🐌💨
Happy running, everyone!
