legs still work ..... Shame about the tech!

So this was my first run in far too many weeks to mention, due also to too many reasons to mention .... Ahh well, such is life!

i'd made sure recently that I was fully hydrated and a couple of days ago updated my watch.

what I didn't do however was to charge my earpod case.

so, up around 8am , another glass of water and a cup of tea.

shorts, t-shirt and running shoes on and Dynamics done

earpods in and off we go

on my warmup walk I decided to have a look for a suitable play list only to find no earpod connection 😐😐😐

ahh well , I can run without

watch locked on and run started , nice and slow.

but how slow ..... I looked at my watch and did not recognise the display 😳

the only data field that made sense was time running.

Ahh well, a naked run it is then , no big problem as I know the route inside out

i know exactly where each millimetre is .

but it was quite confusing, what would be the distance run field on my watch was showing a number that made no sense for either km or miles 🤔

the pace field also appearedto be measuring Furlong's per fortnight !

or something equally bizarre 🤣

Ok, never mind , I'm more than happy to use my breathing and perceived effort and my familiarity with the route to judge my pace

it felt nice to be running again the first km was no problem.

i did start to feel quite warm as I got into the 2nd kilometer, it felt quite muggy.

I had decided beforei went out that I would purposely keep this run short so I carried on to where I know is 3k.

i stopped the run and checked the watch , again , all numbers were very strange

i tried to save the run out of interest and to see what it would upload to starva, but it would not save.

everytime I tried to save it just reverted to a new run !

so, despite it not being on Strava , it did happen 😁

it was slow at about 24 minutes for 3k.

so , back home and stretched , now to try and figure out this watch ... Think a reset may be required 🤔

picture of Misty in her couldn't care less mode 🤣

‘Naked run’ made me chuckle 🤭 I’m glad you managed to get out for a run even though your technology was conspiring against you.

Haha, thank you !It was well overdue run 😁

Great to see you Ian! It sounds like a really good run with or without the tech. We were possibly doing our 3ks at exactly the same time this morning - you even popped into my head as I wondered how you were! A lovely photo of Misty 😊.

Thanks Kate !And for wondering how I was .... I appreciate that 🙂

It was a well overdue run 😁

Think I've sorted the watch now 🤞

I adore Misty 😍 she is so cute. I’ve read that if we copied cats the way they stretched all the time we would be much less achey and more supple. Which is why the cat stretch is one of the best stretches I do! 🙂

Technology is wonderful when it works. Well done on the run 👍

Instructor57Graduate10 in reply toIrishprincess

Haha, yes I'm sure your right about cat stretches 😁I could certainly do with being less achey 😐

Hope I can now get out more often 🤞

We'll done on getting out and again for not turning back when your Tec failed 💪I also had weeks out and know how tough it is to get going again..but you did 🏃👏👏👏

Hopefully you get the watch problem sorted and you earpods charged all ready for the next Run 🙏

Thank you , and yes, always tough coming back 😐Think the watch is now sorted 🤞

And earpods on charge 😁

What was going i. with your watch? did you sort it? furlongs? thought that was cricket pitches, I did an hour walk once that recorded as a. hour yoga! So pleased to see you back running though Ian and Misty has the right idea

I think I have sorted the watch , it was acting funny last week and then I updated it a couple of days ago.Just done a reset and now looks ok , we will see !

Haha, I think Furlong's are a nautical measurement 😁

And yes, Misty couldn't care less 🤣

It’s horse racing, but also…… ha ha ha, I should know the horse racing, not sure why I thought about the cricke 😀

When my Garmin automatically updated itself about 4 weeks ago it acted very strangely for a few days. Had to delete the app and start again!

Mine actually started playing up before the upgrade .In fact that was what made me check for new software !

Ahh well, we shall see 😁🤞

I had something similar once . My watch was telling me that whatever strange unit of length it was using I was doing it at 4.5 mins. As my running spreed was usually around 8 min/km at the time I have no idea what it was. And I was none the wiser when I got home as my watch battery also died partway round. I chalked it up to experience.

My best one was about a week or so ago when I had charged my watch, phone and headphones, switched Bluetooth in and connected my headphones, selected which podcast I was going to listen to and set off for my warm up walk. Then about 4 mins in I setup my watch to record my run when I started, pressed the start button on the podcast and then realised my fully charged headphones were still sitting in their case in my settee, at home!!!

Yes, very strange !I didn't recognise the data at all 🤔

Ahh well fingers crossed for next time 😁

And yes I eft mine at home a while back when I was going for a 13k 😐

So ended up a very quiet run 😁

Great that you got out there. Strava tracking is never, in my view, a good idea after a break from running! Good to see you running again!

Thank you and yes , well over due!

And your probably right about the tracking first run back 😁 .Hope it's on now for next time out though 🤞

SO, so glad that you got out and got a run done... tech' glitch or no tech' glitch! You ran and you felt okay!!! Slow is perfect... I did a 3K this morning too, slower than slow !

It is so good how we get to know instinctively, how far we have run and whether our pace is about the same or slower..

I did not run nekkie... I had Coach Cory with me ! But, maybe that was good, for you, for that first run back !

I feel that Misty has the right idea... relaxed and really chilled !

Well done you x

Many thanks floss 👍It felt so good to get out today.

I also had some other good news today about something that's been a worry for a few months ( not health related but was still a worry )

All these thing take there toll though so it was good to get the news and to get the run done !

Glad to hear you also got out !

And yes , Misty has such a hard life 🤣 x

Really happy to see you back Ian. The tech is so annoying when it decides not to play ball but you didn't let it phase you. Furlongs per fortnight 🤣

Sometimes, those are the best runs with no watch. No pressure, just enjoy the run and run for run’s sake.

Isn't Misty so cute, lovely little cat, that's great that you are back running Ian, of course you know that you should be well hydrated and correctly updated your watch, sorry that your watch did not dis[play anything. so just as they say a naked run, one thing about running the same route is that you know where all the kilometres are without having a watch or Smartphone, I just hope you can sort things out on your watch for your next run, apart from the watch situation that was a nice 3k run you had.

Last week I had a sore hip but I still managed to run my mid-week run, it was 5K in a time of 44.04, I am glad to report that my hip is almost back to normal and on Wednesday (31/8) I ran my 116th (not) parkrun midweek 5K in a time of 34:45

Instructor57 profile image
Instructor57Graduate10 in reply toAlMorr

Thank you Al 👍And yes Misty is so cute 😁

I hope my watch is now ok , we shall see !

Oh, I'm glad your hip is better and you managed 116th (not) parkrun .

And a good time also especially after a hip problem, well done 👍

Congrats on your run! And aaah Misty kitty 💗

My watch has stopped talking to me! I can't think what I've done to offend her! Relationships are such a mystery. Maybe it was because she was on when I popped in the shops and she had to keep saying running has been automatically stopped and then started again numerous times. Seeing other people look for where the voice had come from was amusing! But you're quite right, running without the gadgets is a slightly strange experience, and Naked is quite a good description.

Instructor57 profile image
Instructor57Graduate10 in reply toChinkoflight

Yes they are fickle things these watches .I suppose I should be thankful that mine does not talk to me.

But as you say ,, it was strange running without 😐

Finger crossed for the next run 🤞

Pleased to hear that you had a good run. These running watches seem to have a mind of their own. Hope it works for you on your next run-maybe threaten yo leave it at home if it misbehaves? .My Garmin has developed a white blob on the screen which covers part of the time countdown on my training plan so I end up practicing my mental maths based on the distance run and my average speed to work out how long I have to run!I see that Misty is not bothered by such trivia!

Instructor57 profile image
Instructor57Graduate10 in reply toWeek7

Yes, they do have a mind of their own , I'm actually glad it's just a basic one !Oh no! Not a white blob 😐

If I had to rely on mental maths while running it would be a non starter 🤣

And yes, Misty couldn't care less 😁

Hi Instructor57 , great that you're back running. I'm not Garmin's biggest fan, and it's been worse than useless recently. Misty, however, is ace. 😻

Haha, yes I'm aware your not a Garmin fan , I think I've picked up on that once or twice 🤣And yes, good to get out again (as you know)

Couldn't persuade Misty to run with me though 😁
