Comparison is the thief of joy is a really true statement.
Scrolling through Strava, someone got up early and ran before work, someone else walked 10k way faster than I can run it!!!
Stop 🛑
Of course it’s worth running, I’m not sure why but I enjoy it, so I’ll get myself out soon and run for a while and my after run treat today is going to be an hour on the beach and a swim.
Oh yes, even though I’m the slowest snail around, it’s really worth it.
That picture is our local park, we’d taken the grand littlest ones over to play on swings and slide, if I wasn’t carrying the remains of my tea I would have been running with them, by the time I unlocked my phone to take a picture they were nearly at the end and their laughter filled the air, but how the heck can they run like that in crocs? 😀

I’m not going near any comparisons, too many differing factors to even try. Someone ran the park run I did yesterday in just under 15 mins 😳🤯 wow and well done to them but I still completed it in my usual snail pace and felt great afterwards so it’s definitely worth it. 👍🏻
Very true!! I used to compare myself all the time to other people .. and especially my daughter who I started running with over 4 years ago. She took a break and then restarted again. Then we got covid and struggled with “ heavy legs”. Then we both built up again.. and got it again… and now we are getting be nearly back to full fitness and she is smashing under 10 minute miles and I am still plodding along….
However she is half my age … and if anyone had told me 40..50..years ago that I would go out on a hot morning like this intending to run 5k and then enjoy it so much I kept going for 10k I would have laughed myself silly. So now I run because I enjoy it and it makes me feel good. I’m not fast… ( it’s not pretty to watch😂) but I don’t care. I don’t want to run races I just want to run.
And I too see people who walk as fast as I run sometimes. I was passed by a Power walker once and she must have been in her 80s. And once I was finishing my run round the park and a homeless man put down his can of cider and got up off his bench and followed me, overtook and lapped me round the park and was sat back down on his bench still with his fag in his mouth before I came round again.
But I don’t care and I run because I can!! You keep going !! 👏
Yes that’s it exactly, I’ll never run races just love that we can, every run is a run away from a zimmer frame 😀I sometimes run with a friend and she is faster to start but I remind myself she’s 15 years younger
Lovely sunny day and blue sky. Enjoy the little ones not little for very long. I said the exact question to Mr D this morning about comparison like me walking to his running, and i just say I’m just walking to his running and it takes longer, and sometimes I get down because I feel I’m just walking which anyone can do and not physical enough. , but that’s just silly me. He says I’m doing more exercise by walking than him. I agree we shouldn’t compare. Enjoy your time with the wee ones. 😊
I never compare myself to others because I know I’m a goddess 🤩👸 🤣🤣
Seriously, you're right. We each have our own story and no one else knows what that story is and how we have arrived at our current place. Be a runner, be proud and forget about others. This is yours 😍
It’s one reason why I don't “do” any social media, apart from this one of course, THE best place to be!
I know the feeling. I love it when Mr B's daughter comes up with the grandkids and dog but it's like a tornado has hit. It's nice to get our house back though when they are gone
yes very nice, we are collecting them again tomorrow to meet my friend with her granddaughter, then Wednesday is going to be hot so will spend it on the beach, it’s being a great holiday
Oh just ignore all the "I got up before I went to bed and still achieved my 100th PB of the week in record temperatures, oh and I rescued and rehomed 83 lost puppies on the way" posts SueAppleRun . And Strava's "Look you were achieving this a year ago so let's just rub in how much you've regressed" posts can do one as well.
You carry on being you,. In any case, from what I've seen on Strava, your objective progress is just great 👍😀
(Btw kids can run in crocs because nobody's told them they can't.)
Thank you. That’s true I suppose about the crocs. Sometimes I wonder if I’ll ever get a bit faster and then I think at least I’m running, and a lot of people of all ages aren’t.
Oh running in bare feet, bliss, except one of my legs is shorter than the other hence a heel lift and orthotic insoles so it’s a bit of an uneven run for me
My pal once went hiking in my crocs which were two sizes too big for her as she’d left her hiking boots on the drive at home. It was very wet too on the moors but she never broke stride 😁
Yes I can see the appeal, I nearly booked the Brighton half last year then realised Id never make it round in the time and I’d never have time for the training
I ran a kids race a few weeks back with the little un. He’s only five, and he had no idea what was happening, but he was just open to it all bless im 😍
