Hello again Questers 👋 How have you been managing in this UK heat. 🥵 How have you been doing wherever you are in the world for that matter?

I’m happy to announce that my Quest is still intact after a faltering start. Yoga most days including an hour long live class on Friday mornings (🥵), running 3-5 times per week, hula hooping when I get a chance ….. so I’m pretty pleased.

And you?

There will be one final check in from me next week before the new Quest month starts, so don’t let it slide now. You’re almost there! 👊

Here’s the link to my original post in case you need reminding what your Quest is, or if you’d like to make a late entry! It’s never too late. 😀

I've been naughty. Very naughty indeed.

I did a HM before work this morning.

I meant to get out at 7am, but it was more like 8.30am.

Boy, did it get hot towards the end! Sweating buckets by the time I got home.

What was that about keeping to a plan? 😆

cheekychipmunksGraduate10 in reply tonowster

Oooohh nowster! What a criminal! 😅 👮‍♀️ But if that’s what you fancied, then why not? A casual HM before work is pretty incredible so we’ll forgive you for going off piste! And yes, it must have been so 🥵🥵🥵

Well done! 👊

Hi cheeky!

2 and a bit weeks in and still going too but legs are definitely starting to hate me. Heat isn’t too much of a problem as I’ve been getting up at stupid o’clock to do my runs. Strength & conditioning in a nicely air conditioned gym.

8 miles on Sunday so slow you would have speeded past me cheeky! Didn’t know i had it in me! 🤣 Then 3x10 min threshold intervals yesterday nearly finished me off but I did them! It’s a sneaky nearly 10k when all the time spent on feet comes together. Progression run again on Thursday. Seems like nothing but that’s nearly 8k too. 10 miles this coming Sunday, so it all adds up. Looking forward to a recovery week and a massage next week. Thank you 🙏😂

The plan seems so straightforward and simple but it’s definitely doing something 😳

Have fun all!

Wow well done TC, you’re really getting stuck in aren’t you? I’m loving hearing all about your (very grownup sounding) runs! As for me speeding past you? I verrrry much doubt it! I speed past no one. 😅😅😅

You’ll fully deserve that recovery week and massage. Enjoy! 🥰

I have a great training plan from a very good (slightly potty) lady I discovered on Facebook Floss. She has helped a lot of older, first time marathoners.

Hello cheekychipmunks

Sounds like your quest is going from strength to strength.

I only managed one run last week due to work but did get quite a few pilates & strength exercises in.

Today I did a 3km run but the reverse of my normal route - it makes one of the killer hills harder but somehow found more satisfaction. I stopped once on the killer hill to bring my heart rate down and then carried on. It was heating up nicely in the South East at 9am but didn't find it too much of a struggle. Might try reps on it in the future (& when they fill the potholes in).

Plan to run Friday and possibly Sunday but definitely keeping on with the S&C as that seems to be working its magic.

cheekychipmunks profile image
cheekychipmunksGraduate10 in reply tobeth_f

Excellent beth_f! Strength and pilates all work towards your running, so the fact you didn’t run as much as you’d hoped won’t have affected your progress.

Gosh yes it’s been hot today hasn’t it? Well done for getting out in it, and well done for showing the killer hill you’re not intimidated by it. 👊 The satisfaction of running up a hill is huge isn’t it? Well worth the effort. 😀

Keep on enjoying your runs. 🏃‍♀️

I am keeping to the HM running programme and fitting in lots of long walks too. I have left today’s 5k until later; too hot at present. Running at 7pm works really well. I feel a bit underdressed when I bump into people who are dressed up for a evening out…. but I don’t care really. I know whose head will feel better in the morning! This will be my fifth Scilly run since we arrived. Just 5k tonight then a 12k on Friday. The 5ks are getting easier despite the hills and my average heart rate is improving too. So all good 🤞

Fabulous news BC. You’re really settling into island life well, and your cruising through your HM plan. Enjoy your run this evening. 🏃‍♂️ 😀

We are doing lots of boat trips too. Mrs BC went for a swim off St. Martins today🥶! I nobly stayed on the beach in my lifeguard role. Thankfully I wasn’t called upon.

She said that the water was a bit warmer than usual. In truth I am the stronger and more regular swimmer and can do the life saving kick, so I do keep an eye on her ; but I was so glad not to be called upon!

Still haven't managed 10k! This week's excuses - I've been exploring the running opportunities around Brighton Marina, generally having a lovely time but it's all hard surfaces which isn't so great for my poor old knees. Plus it's been hot. If I had an autumnal forest handy I'm sure it'd be done by the end of the week but short of going to Oz for a quick run I don't think that's gonna happen 😂

cheekychipmunks profile image
cheekychipmunksGraduate10 in reply toYesletsgo

Haha, no worries there YLG! There’ll be the right time for that 10k, and you’ll recognise it when it happens. 😀 Anyway, better to care for your knees; they’ll thank you!

Have fun! 🏃‍♀️👏

A gentle 4 mile NRC run on Sunday, the long run of HM plan Week 2... rest day Monday and then I should have done a Speed run today, but a bit of a mish mash and tiring day, driving here to Wales, yesterday , meant I chose to do a really easy paced run this morning.

Started antibiotics too, this afternoon for a blocked/infected sinus ( recurring issue and exacerbated by my run on Sunday which was very windy)!

So, not sure what the rest of the week will bring... but we will see!

Happy Questing everyone!

cheekychipmunks profile image
cheekychipmunksGraduate10 in reply toOldfloss

That’s the beauty of the NRC plan, OF, it lets you pick and choose which/how many runs you do per week, as life often gets in the way.

Arghh an infected sinus must have been horribly uncomfortable. Here’s hoping the antibiotics nuke the blockage once and for all. 🤞

Keep doing what you’re doing though. It’s awesome. 🥰

Oldfloss profile image
OldflossAdministratorGraduate10 in reply tocheekychipmunks

That's what I am liking about it...just taking it steady and tweaking. No feeling of, having to do it ! Thankfully this sinus thing, although recurring, is not that often. Mostly happens in colder weather, which is why I wear a wooly hat pulled well down! Not a great look for this warm weather:)

Usually it settles, this time it didn't ! It is just a feeling of terrific pressure but the treatment works. :)Thanks you xxx

Hi CC,

Great that you’ve managed to keep up yoga! I had a quick return to yoga on International Yoga Day where I did a quick bedtime practice healthunlocked.com/strength... It was really nice to reconnect with the mindful practice of YWA again.

How am I doing with my monthly quests:

- I had finished C25k Zombie version ✅ already last week, and am now going through NRC audio-guided runs during my consolidation period.

- rowing 10k plan but: I have now finished the plan just yesterday. So only thing left is to row a 10k time trial! I thought it would take me longer, but I was pushing these training sessions daily, so I’m ready. I even made sure I’ll get a medal for that 10k! So my plan is to row my time trial tomorrow on Friday! Woohoo!

- and as my running activities (and with it post-run stretches) have increased, I decided to end the James Dunne challenge . It was just one thing too much. I’ll get back to it when I have more time.

So mixed bag, but overall I feel it’s going great!

cheekychipmunks profile image
cheekychipmunksGraduate10 in reply toCBDB

Absolutely amazing CBDB, you’ve really been busy! Kudos on your rowing. Mr Cheeky uses the machines at the gym to supplement his training for rowing on the water, and they’re mighty hard work. 🥵

Great that you’ve had time for some lovely yoga too. I know I personally miss it when I can’t fit a practice in. Time for one in a minute actually! 😀

Good luck with your time trial! 🚣🏿‍♀️ ☘️ 😀

It has certainly been hot on the south coast cheeky, but thank goodness for sea breezes.

My quest was:

* Run when I can

* Pilates when I can

* Attend at least 2 tourist parkruns

* Stay off the IC

Well, as suspected, June has not been good for regular running or regular anything for that matter. But I’ve managed to get 3 runs in since our return from the Lake District. My NRC 6k run yesterday was in 21C so I was drinking lots of water while enjoying a Beach Cafe breakfast with the Motley Crew. We’ve all been away, one after the other so it was great to have a get together after our individual runs.

I’ve completely missed the pilates pledge, it would have been far too hot in the studio this week. But I have done some walking and cycling to supplement the running.

Keswick parkrun complete. 🤞for our next tourist run this coming weekend 😉

Touch wood, the body is still working well for an old bird.

cheekychipmunks profile image
cheekychipmunksGraduate10 in reply toDexy5

You’re not old Dexy!!!!

Bet it was nice to be back with your buddies. Hope you had a sea breeze for your 6k. 🤞 I’ve been hiding in the air conditioned gym for my running (doubling up as a hiding place from wind and rain too!)

Fortunately the yoga studio is air conditioned too otherwise I’d get no grip on my yoga mat! I can see why you wouldn’t fancy pilates in thr heat though. 🥵 Hey, there are plenty of cool months to get back to that!

Enjoy your tourism this weekend (!) 😀

Hi Cheeky! My quest was to do more strength and stretch exercises, which has been something of a failure, but I did 105km for my 70km Platinum Jubilee challenge so have sent off for my medal 😃😃 We arrived in France on Monday evening and on Tuesday morning I went for my first 5k run with the running group here (in a relatively cool 20c!)

cheekychipmunks profile image
cheekychipmunksGraduate10 in reply toSandie1961

Woohoo, incoming medal alert Sandie!! 🏅 I sent off for mine too, and I’ve had a confirmation email including my digital certificate and assurance that they’re sending out the bling shortly. 🏅👏

Plenty of time to do some strength and stretch, so no shame in not achieving much of that so far. It’s hard when it’s hot. 🥵

Enjoy France! We’re off to Brittany next month. Can’t wait! 🇫🇷

Hi cheekychipmunks I’m pretty much on target for the quest👍 I’ve run 8K on each of the last 2 Sundays, once along the seafront in hot weather and one along the beach with rock pools, sand and seaweed to contend with! My target is to get to 10K by the end of the month, so I’ll probably try for it on Sunday or early next week 🤞

cheekychipmunks profile image
cheekychipmunksGraduate10 in reply toDavid_G

Brilliant David. After your beach 8k, 10k on the roads and paths will seem effortless (mostly!) Enjoy. 😀

Hmmm, still grappling a bit with the yoga. Have downloaded some classes and actually done a few of the breathing/meditation sessions.

Declutter is tickling round the edges (or rather doing the middle and the edges look like one of those beaches where all the plastic washes up 😱) Did get a bag of dog food and some joint aid sticks to the food bank though (and realised some of what I was about to take is actually cat food and I still have five of those, plus 🤞 hedgehogs) And I need to go and collect Google's ashes from the vet.

The big success of the week was the run though. Grotty thing, hot hot day, very steep route up and down on horrible tracks, tech behaving oddly, podcasts wouldn't work, doing double duty bagging a rubbish Ethel (one of those irritating ones where there's no public access and in this case you can't even see it from the public footpath) But woohoo, although I walked up the hill and the last bit of the flat, the whole thing was not just 5K but considerably more than 5K and I never need to go up there again and That Is A Good Thing. (There was also a tiny bit of woodland path at the top which is my favourite, and some downhill on grass)

cheekychipmunks profile image
cheekychipmunksGraduate10 in reply toGoogleMe

Ahh, we declutter fairly regularly, but it keeps returning. Funny that it seems to coincide with when the kids come back to visit. 🤔 😅

Great work with the food bank. And lucky you spotted the cat food. Yours wouldn’t have been happy! 😅

Well done with that run. It sounds pretty brutal in the heat, but as you say it’s done! Awesome. 👊

Well done cheekychipmunks on getting all of those runs in as well as your yoga and hula hooping! 👍 My quests this week have gone to plan:1) YES - run at least 3 times a week - did exactly that

2) YES - continued with garmin coach 10k plan for race on 10th July

3) YES - not chase a PB for any parkruns this month (although I did do a sprint finish at one so does that still count?!!!!)

4) YES - cross train at least twice a week - did 1 run, 1 swim, 1 strength training session

5) YES - cut back on any of the above if I feel its too much too soon - haven't felt the need as I seem to be well on the way to recover after my op. Looking forward to the final week of the quest. Thanks for keeping us accountable!

😀👍🤗

Hi, Hope everyone is doing well. I’ve let my return-to-yoga quest slip this past week or two, unfortunately.

My JD Challenge (second version) is surviving - just - and I’m mid way through Stage 3 (the one we all find the hardest despite it being yoga-like). I think this stage entails more time commitment than most other stages.

Running: Here I’m doing much better. I have managed four outings in the past week: 7.6k, 4.2k, 5.2k - all easy/very easy paced, although I’ve thrown in a few strides here and there as fancy takes me, plus an official speed session with NRC (‘Slow down 2 speed up’ with Coach Bennett and Andy Puddicome). I’ve not felt like taking on a longer run, but I’ve enjoyed these runs and I was rewarded for my modest efforts by Garmin: my VO2max went up!
