Running in sandals?

HI all, just wondering if anyone runs in walking sandals? I've started doing it since the temperature has risen...I built up slowly with no adverse affects. Today I did a massive 16k and again my feet were fine. I got a pair of Keens walking sandals off eBay cos my sister had them and they looked great!( She's 72 and we are still very competitive with each other....)

The run was beautiful, early to avoid heat, over heath and through woods. I ended with a dip in the 🌊 bliss! The photo is a herd of deer... Why does it take so long to get my camera out? They were alot nearer!

I certainly would not run 10 miles /16K in walking sandals but well done to you Mormor1 on doing that run, I think the running experts on this forum will advise you to buy a proper pair of running shoes because if you don't and continue to run long distances in sandals you will eventually get injured.

They really feel as supportive as my basic asics except for having holes to let the air through.

Interesting, no I don’t run in sandals, I can’t go to work in them either

Wow 16 miles and in sandals well done . I can hardly walk in mine never mind run. I don’t think I would make a habit of it running in sandals unless specially for running.

Only 16 k! They feel just like running shoes and protective.

Hmm ... I certainly wouldn't .

And perhaps the clue is in the name 'Keens walking sandals' 🤔

I can relate to that! I can’t comment on the sandals, though, it’s not something I would risk.

I can never get my photos in quick enough, but that is a great photo... !

I cannot remember whether it was misswobble or GoogleMe who has run in Keen's sandals very successfully.

I bought a pair on reading that post, ( great price too in a closing down sale at Ellis Brigham's in Wales.),and have used them, in the past, for short runs incorporated in a walk. Have not run more than 5K in them though.

I have had mine for ages and they are, as you say extremely supportive and very, very comfortable even after a long time wearing!

Well done you!!!

😅 such a relief to know someone doesn't think I'm crazy. Don't some people run in bare feet?

I ran barefoot all the time when I was a runner for the County, but I was a teenager and it was track running! Until a nasty girl deliberately changed lane and spiked my foot!I have not tried barefoot running...but I intend to. Mr OF and I were chatting about possible locations last evening!

We are barefoot at home all the time except when gardening!

My podiatrist thinks it is great ( and it is really good as you get a lot older,( balance, sensation etc... ). She thinks the Keens are an excellent thing to wear.. unlike the thong toe-grip types of slip-ons and sandals which she really does not like!

You may have already read this.. it is interesting..

Can't children be mean! I'm usually barefoot all summer too and we were as children... Even going down to the local park barefoot... I remember the tarmac burning our soles... Don't know why my father didn't stop us, he was the local gp!

I looked back on alot of GM's posts..... 3 years back I found a reference to running in Keens when hot.....

I have never run in walking sandals! But I can only imagine how nice it is to have that bit of air circulating. Nothing worse than hot and bothered feet! I always slather mine with minty foot lotion before I run, it seems to help with the heat and swelling a bit. 😊

It is so nice to wear them.... If you have shoes you have to have socks and at this time of year my feet get hot and expand!
