How did your parkrun or (not)parkrun go?

Hello Everyone and happy weekend. Today is parkrun day, a free 5K event which takes place every Saturday morning all around the world. It is for everyone, slow, fast, able, disabled, big, small and everyone in between. Oh and don't forget about the super Mum's and Dad's who push their babies in buggies. You can walk, jog, run, run/walk, it's not a race, just a run in the park and loads of us here on Bridge to 10K do it religiously every Saturday morning.

Some of us may not be able to do a parkrun at the moment so until parkrun returns fully for everyone some of us will continue to take part on our own in a Virtual parkrun every Saturday morning called a (not)parkrun. Or if you are away on Holidays, prefer to run on your own, or do not have a parkrun close by you a (not)parkrun is perfect, please feel free to join in.

Please post a little run report after your parkrun or (not)parkrun and let everyone know how you got on. The little run report can be done over a post parkrun coffee and treat/cake. (parkrun is all about the after run coffee and cake, and meeting friends old and new).

If you are a new graduate and would like to start, all you have to do is run, walk or jog at a parkrun or a 5K run/jog/walk (not)parkrun anytime today or tomorrow and write a little run report under this post. It's like a little community and it is good fun, sets you up nicely for the weekend. If you want to you can register on the parkrun website and you can log your 5K (not)parkrun. In fact you can log any 5K done during the week as a (not)parkrun.

For anyone whom has not done a real parkrun yet and if it is available to you, give it a try. It is the most wonderful community event. Saturday mornings will never be the same again.

Looking forward to hearing from all of you who ran in real proper parkruns and (not)parkruns. Happy running and have a lovely weekend.

Hi damienair & park runners, and (not) park runners,

No park run again for me - a steady 8 miler though to meet my park runners at the finish line.

Both 3rd in their age groups today - 22.05 for no.2 son & 25:19 for hubby.

No.2 son was very impressed that a Dad came in 2nd running with a pram with a time of 18:23.

Happy park running everyone! ❤️🏃‍♀️🏃🏻‍♂️

Today’s run

Hi everyone 👋

Solo Severn Bridge for me today. 😀 Jenny is in London again.

One of those side(head)wind kind of days with no reprieve at all, and definitely not one for good hair. 😳😅 I love this PR, it’s my favourite even on a day like this. 🥶 💨

My time was 35:40 (35:39 Garmin). Ok with that and I still maintain this’ll be the PR where I get my 5k PB one day when the conditions are right. Let’s see! Today was NOT one of those days!! 😅

Happy running everyone. ❤️

Good morning Damien and all!Shake-and-run and I are just travelling back from Watermead Country Park after a lovely celebratory parkrun with Sandie1961 and her friend Clive. It was Sandie’s 50th parkrun and the park’s location was the perfect spot between our homes.

It’s been a very grey and chilly morning but it made the run nice and easy around the two lakes that make up the route. Shakes was particularly excited by the King Lear statue in the middle of one lake as it’s Shakespeare’s 458th birthday today (happy birthday sir!).

I did run slower today, probably not slow enough but a comfortable pace for me. Just over 32 minutes with a little sprint at the end.

After a very nice cooked breakfast we’re toddling back. Have a great runny week everyone 😀👏👏👏

Good morning Damien, there was I thinking I wouldn't get a sub 32 minutes 5K parkrun at Drumpellier again, but I am pleased to say that on my 42nd parkrun and number 14 at Drumpellier my time this morning was 31:43, that's the best parkrun time this year, the weather was fine and sunny but there was a brisk east wind, a little cold while standing around, so reasonably pleased with my run this morning, I hope you are recovering from the after effects from Covid.

Parkrun #13 for me today. It is also the day of the TWLOHA Run For It 5K. TWLOHA (To Write Love On Her Arms) is a charity that wants to give hope and support to people struggling with depression, addiction, self-harm and suicide. It is most active in the USA and has the support of many rock bands. bit.ly/3v6iy7C

So today I was wearing my Run For It top. I put on my fast shoes and decided to go for it. Somewhat amazed that I got a PB of 20:23.

Really?! 😯 Oh that’s a shame! No, first time I’ve been there. I was there with Shake-and-run and Sandie1961 for Sandie’s 50th. It is a good spot though as it’s between our towns. I was very impressed with the number of speedy and marathon runners there - lots of Boston tops (could have been US, could have been Lincs, but hey, it’s still a marathon!). I’ll definitely message you if we’re up that way again.

I spotted you too. I wondered what the charity was. It sounds like a fantastic cause. Watermead was such a convenient course for us to meet and a lovely place to run, so I’m sure we’ll be back at some point. You’d be home by the time I finished though 😂😂

Freecloud profile image
FreecloudGraduate10

Hi everyone, my 17th parkrun today. I was half thinking of running a local 5k but the hills in that town are horrendous. I also needed to charge my car and knew that there was a charger near the parkrun, so plan was to charge car do run and come back. I made it to the charger with 3% remaining so it was a bit squeeky bum to see if I'd make it. Set up charger and went off, did a bit of a warm-up.

Weather was great, I was more concentrating on running style than time for this one where I was trying to force my legs and feet to run in parallel rather than outwards. I heard fast footfall getting closer behind me at the very end so put on a sprint, he passed just before the line.

I was also on a mission at the end to make sure I clocked 5k so I collected my token and jogged until watch buzzed at 5k.

Official time 24:26.

Freecloud profile image
FreecloudGraduate10 in reply to Dexy5

I was about to agree but want to include all races... I've missed a good few PBs now because of this. A few 5ks, 3 10ks, a 10 miler and HM last Monday 😭😭😭. Garmin asked me if I wanted to accept new 5k record after the run. I told it that it wasn't and my pb was over a minute faster, but it didn't listen. Of course I reluctantly accepted the record 🥳🥳.

Dexy5 profile image
Dexy5Graduate10 in reply to Freecloud

Yes I've found that if you do a manual change to a run on Garmin, it doesn't get included in the PB data which means I've lost sight of real PBs. I guess we've just got to keep beating them.

I traveled this morning to do some parkrun tourism on my own. I ran at Poolbeg parkrun which is close to the City centre of Dublin and along Dublin bay. There was a good crowd, the weather was lovely but still chilly. As I got going there was a lady just ahead of me in a red 50 parkrun t-shirt who was running at a nice comfortable pace so I decided to tuck in behind her and pace off of her. I decided not to look at my watch and just relax. Run at what felt right for me this morning. I stayed pacing off of that lady for 4.5K and with 500 meters to go I decided to go for it and I picked up my pace running the last kilometer in a time of 5:05. I’m just home now and the results are just in, I ran a time of 29:56. I’m delighted, my first sub 30 minute 5K in such a long time. I felt comfortable and so happy I pushed myself at the end. After getting scanned I popped over and I thanked the lady who paced me. We had a lovely chat afterwards. Turns out she was doing some parkrun tourism too. She was in Dublin for the weekend for a David Bowie festival and was from Leeds, her local parkrun is in Woodhouse Moor. Have a lovely weekend everyone.9695 steps done and I’m about to take the dog for a walk now so I’ll be doing another 5K soon.

I ran across the bay from where this photo was taken.

Good afternoon all,Very windy and chilly at Lowestoft today and I was on timekeeping duties. Had to unexpectedly break into a jog before things started as we realised the RD’s microphone had been left at the volunteer meeting point (about 650m from the start line, down the windy promenade!). Luckily I made it back just in time to start my stopwatch! 😮‍💨 Jogging in jeans with tight calves wasn’t on my plan for today! 😂

Anyway, 329 across the finish line and we all kept in sync. I’m still quite new to timekeeping, so it makes me a little nervous!

Running wise this week, I did a 9km on Monday, my longest run so far. My calves have been telling me off ever since! I did 6km last night and I’ve got another 6km planned for tomorrow morning. My April

charity challenge has a week to go and I’ve upped my target to 75km so I’ve got another 18km to get done, finishing with Parkrun next Saturday.

Have a great day everyone!

Good afternoon Damien.

Today I was back at my nearest parkrun venue for parkrun number 27, and my first in April and first since recovering from Covid.

They had the birthday balloons out today, with non-alcoholic wine and fairy cakes available. Today marked the sixth anniversary of the first parkrun at that venue.

It was mild this morning but very breezy and got breezier as the morning progressed.

One of the volunteers was doing his 100th volunteer stint today.

I did my usual trick of holding back at the start, then gradually working up the ranks as I got warmed up.

At one point a young lady running ahead of me (with her father) seemed to be in a bit of difficulty as if there was a stone in her shoe, and she was running with her right leg a bit twisted.

On a later lap a little dog ran across my path and I almost tripped over it. The owner and I apologised at the same time.

I did put on a tiny spurt of speed at the end and the timekeepers volunteered unprompted that I'd come in just under 29 minutes.

My official time was 28'59". Nowhere near my fastest (which is a minute and a quarter quicker), but getting a PB is never my plan when doing parkrun.

Balloons spelling out HAPPY BIRTHDAY 6.

When is a Park Run, not a Park run? When you chat too much and move too little. :)

This morning, I met up with another runner, the awesome UnfitNoMore , at Plas Heli at Pwllheli! The scene of the Saharan Adventures of a Grey Snail!

Low tide...but not that low! Shingle instead of dunes, and still the sinkability factor!

Add a ferocious headwind...which took me off my feet... ( I tried to hide behind my companion).and it was slow!

Chatted away, in between gasping for breath in the wind... a few 'jeffing ' moments...and the welcome return run... on which, mysteriously, the wind dropped. Completely. No tail wind to aid tired legs.

Still, as UNM said, it was never about the time or speed, it was just great to meet up with a friend from the forums...even if he is younger and faster than I; ( Just saying)!

Official PR result ..45.07

My Watch/Strava 41.25

Garmin Connect. 41.25

It matters not.. we survived, he got to know how old I truly am, and best of all, we had fun :)

If anyone is ever in that area, do try it... it is a real tester of character, strength, determination and sheer b* mindedness :) The location is stunning!

Hi Damien, unlike so many today I did my home Parkrun :) Overslept slightly so arrived just as the briefing started, so much for my idea of running 5km beforehand 😂😂😂(realistically that was never going to happen). As always three quarters or more of the runners sped off way ahead of me, leaving me with Coach Bennett on a guided 5k run and BBC Sounds Pacesetter, lots of indie stuff which is more to my taste than some of their selections. Tried to take it easy and eventually caught up with a younger woman who was alternating walking and running. We spent about half the run taking turns to overtake each other. I was sure she'd finish more quickly than me but I overtook her at about 4km. I didn't actually get to see her finish but thanks go out to her for being an incentive for me to give a little bit more than I'd have done otherwise.

I was pleased with 37:34, it felt quick to me. Mr Yes got another PB, now he's running at his own pace he's so much faster than me. Once we got home I made bacon and eggs with avocado toast for breakfast, I felt we deserved it :)

Number 39 and back home at lyme for the 12th time. Had debated changing to a flatter course as I ran a test HM on thursday to see what sort of gains I'd made since my last test HM in October last year. Legs were complaining heavily Friday morning but I went out for a super slow recovery plod just to keep them from getting stiff and it worked wonders so was pleased as I wanted to try out my new peregrine 12 trail shoes for the first time and lyme is definitely the best test I can find for them round here. Got only my 4th time under 24 minutes today so definitely well happy with that. The rock plate in the midsole is definitely a massive help over rocky and rutted terrain and the sock liner insole is really nice comfort to run in. Next week the plan is to take my racing shoes to monsal trail if it stays dry before then and try and get the new pb!

Brilliant and congratulations on your 25 milestone parkrun.

Got back from Italy with family late last night, but couldn't miss posting in this thread! Managed 2 runs while we were there. The first was accompanied by my son-in-law which was nice - we found a (relatively) level stretch of the Tuscan hills. He declined to join me for the second - too much Chianti the previous night I think! I managed a very enjoyable (not) parkrun of 30.43 with only 91m of ascent. Nice to be back and looking forward to this morning's run.😀

“Only” 91m! Sounds pretty hilly to me. Running on holiday and somewhere new is always fun isn’t it?

It is - amazing to think that last time I ran abroad I was doing c25k!

I've been doing C25K again to build up my stamina, which seems to have deserted me post-Covid. I was back at Valentine's this week and definitely felt a bit more comfortable. It's a lovely course.

Well done. I know where your coming from, it is really hard trying to build back up running stamina post Covid. I’m in the same boat and only feel I am getting somewhere now.

I had a great Parkrun yesterday and not because I got a PB, although it was a good time, but because it showed me what you can do even when you think you can't. So, every sat I get there at 8.35 and spent 15 mins doing a gentle run round some of our route and taking the time to stretch. Every week I chat for a couple of mins to a guy who does his Parkrun in about 21 mins (I can only dream of a time like that, however he is 20 years younger!) and we always end by shouting to each other ' have a good one'. He wants to do a sub 21, no idea what his name is, so this week I asked him what his name was, so I could look to see what time he has done to see if he's achieved it or not. Anyway, he gave me his name and we did our normal ' have a good one' and went our separate ways to the start line.

Im running along and its about almost 26 mins and I suddenly see him appear coming in the opposite direction, quite clearly he's finished and so I think he's on his way home. I quickly asked how how he got on and he grinned and said not quite a sub 21 but close! Then he turned round and proceeded to run with me and motivate me all the way in to the finish! I managed to overtake two people who were well in front of me and I didnt think I had a chance of catching them, but I did.

Someone behind me came upto me when we'd finished and asked me what magical formula I'd suddenly found to get such a spurt on!!

🤣

Just shows you though what you can do when you're motivated a bit more!!

😀🏃‍♀️
