Back to 6k & pretty damn happy about it 😊

After a couple of months of ill health & then a knee injury last year I had to start off easy this year with short run/walks to make sure my knee would hold up & to get my fitness back up πŸƒβ€β™€οΈπŸšΆβ€β™€οΈπŸƒβ€β™€οΈ

I'm having to be really patient as I think it was building back up to 10k far too quickly after being poorly that caused the injury and it took ages to heal so I defo don't want to do that again! Lesson learnt πŸ€¦β€β™€οΈπŸ€ž

I've been sticking to just 2 runs a week & built back up to 5k...very slow & steady at 1st then removing walks & introducing a bit more speed while constantly keeping an eye on my knee & how it reacts.

Decided this morning to try a 6k & was thrilled it went well...I changed to a route that had all the up hill bits in the 1st half, leaving lots of nice down hill sections for when I was flagging and it worked really well. The weather was also on my side, I hate to overheat but the 10 degree sunny weather with a pretty constant cool breeze was perfect β˜€οΈπŸŒ¬

All in all it couldn't have gone better, very slight ache in the back of my knee in the last few minutes but nothing concerning, and my hips were starting to complain a little bit by then too...they've soon forgotten how far they used to manage!

Very happy to have managed 6k again...hope all your runs this weekend are good ones too πŸ˜ŠπŸ‘

After last year I've realised I can't take being able to run for granted so am glad to achieve every run but really appreciate the good ones πŸ™

Nice one Run46. Your patience and perseverence has paid off. Hope you can continue to build distance if you want to. Well done πŸ€—πŸŽ‰ xx

Thanks CSMN, be nice to get back to 10k, no rush though.

How are you getting on, still getting out there?

Yes, I'm still running. Sometimes it's a struggle to get out, but I cant image life now without running. I aim to do a couple of 5k runs plus a longer run 10k + each week. I'd like to run faster, but I enjoy tootling along! πŸ˜ƒ

That's where I'd like to get back to...before illness I was at 2 x 5s & a 10 at the weekend. That way even if you have a busy week & only manage 2 runs you're still getting 15k in. I'd given up on fast & on longer runs but never say never 😊

That's it exactly! Its great that you can still get out and enjoy what you are comfortable doing. I love long, slow runs . Maybe we will get together in Chester one of these days. Take care x

Well done you...it can be a long hard run back to form, after illness or injury .Slow and steady, you'll get there!

Good to know you are able to increase your distance again without injury

Fingers crossed, taking it slow & giving myself two days rest after a run to check everything feels ok before I go out again.

I've seen you've been out of the game too recently, hope whatever is effecting your health sorts itself out & gives you boundless energy sometime soon πŸ˜‰

Really pleased for you that you’re getting back to the level of running you want. And that the injury seems not to be recurring. After suffering a few running injuries myself, I have got myself back to running three 7k runs a week in 50 minutes. I may go back to one 10k run a week but as I really have no aim to go faster or further I may just stay at my current level for a while longer and see how I feel.

Having achieved the 10k distance β€˜bar’ I don’t, at 66, feel any imperative to go further or faster and now enjoy the routine of my three runs per week.

Thanks, I'm just glad to be back out there...and my knee aches the occasional time after a run to remind me to not overdo it!I had stopped pushing for longer distances and settled into 2 x 5k after work in the week & 1 x 10k at the weekend...thats what I'm working towards getting back to 🀞

3 x 7k is a good distance weekly...I'm 50 this year & hope that at 66 I am still enjoying running πŸ˜…
