Update on my post c25k runs

Last time i posted here at the start of the month i was saying how i was re-running c25K but jogging and running this time instead of walking and running. I thought I’d give an update.

I reached week 4 run 2 yesterday, along with the odd NRC run and a straight 5k just to vary things up. Concentrating on trying to adopt two different speeds for the jog and run sections has been my main goal and as a result i can now do this. I did find it very hard at the beginning as i seemed to just have one pace all the time and therefore found i was running too fast, hence the ‘nothing left in the tank’ scenario i discussed previously at the end of a 5k run.

Now by doing my longer runs at a slower pace i’m finding i still have energy left at the end of a run. This means i’m enjoying my runs more than previously. This also means if i want to do a slow run i can, or if i feel like pushing harder for shorter periods i can. Not worrying about trying to improve my time for a 5K has liberated me to just go at an easier pace when doing the distance.

I know this is all quite basic stuff but maybe there are others struggling with this, or post c25k are getting bored, or aren't sure what to do, so i thought i’d let you know how its working out for me so far.

So glad to hear you have found what works for you, I have been doing the NRC get started training plan which is fun but not a replacement for c25k, more of a follow on, happy to hear you are enjoying running again

This is a great idea. I really struggled to keep my motivation after I finished C25K last year. I'm just about to finish week 9 of a re-do so might steal this after I consolidate.

I think quite a few seem to struggle after the C2K finishes, you need to figure out what you want out of running and i think that takes time, not everyone wants to push on to 10K but there is definitely a need to mix things up a bit to keep it interesting
