Don't turn them off whilst something is playing. Stop playback and wait for 10 seconds, then turn them off.
There's a bug that stops them from charging if you turn them off whilst they were active. It causes the mysterious purple charging light (which indicates a fault) rather than the expected blue one at the end of a charge.

It seemed to be fixed in a later firmware, as the warranty replacement ones I've got (the transducers went tinkly) don't have the problem.
The fix was to power on, let it connect, then wait for inactivity. Tap the volume up/power off button. If it changes the volume it's still active. If it tells you the battery level (eg. "Battery medium"), you're safe to turn off the headphones.
Don't put them on charge while they're still powered on.
I had a problem with the Aftershokz cutting out, contacted customer service and they sent me a new pair after just a couple of 'have you tried switching them on and switching them off again?' type questions. Fantastic customer service.
My husband took the old set, they haven't played up since (mind you he doesn't run in them and actually rarely uses them).
