Red tick motivation

If motivation were needed other than pulling on my new man pants it would be getting that last red tick on Week 1 of the NRC HM plan.

Out of the door and into the frost I went much to the chagrin of Mr Garmin who objected quite strongly when I hit the run button. Blimey!! Its usually Mr Garmin telling me to run 14 miles at 3 minute / km pace as opposed to telling me to get back on the couch and rest 🤣🤣🤣

Another great run. How fantastic to run slowly and strongly through frost covered parks. Just loving it.

Rest day tomorrow then onwards with week 2. Just had a quick peek at the speed runs and they look awesome. A few weeks ago i would have been looking on in fright. Now, its bring it on baby 😁.

Good run for you Runforjoy, that pace of 3 minutes a Km would take you around 21 minutes to run a 5K.

It was a great run Al. Slow and steady is good for me 👍

3min/km would be getting into world record class type running. 5km in 15 minutes!

Indeed Nowster, that has happened a few times at parkrun, not often

I'm doing NRC HM too. On week 1 I did the Garmin benchmark run (then carried on running). At the time I was trying to decide between the Garmin and the NRC plans. Didn't like the Garmin but decided it would count (for me anyway). Obviously it didn't show up on the NRC as completed. I missed the Fartlek too, don't really know why, I think I was trying to get my head around the conflict between 'gotta tick all the boxes' and '3 runs a week is plenty' plus the need/want to do Parkrun, the timing just didn't work out.I've moved to Week 2, missed the first recovery run and took a day off between the Day 4 recovery run and today's Day 5 long run. I'm thinking I may do the Day 1 15 minute recovery tomorrow then the Day 7 Speed run (intervals) on Friday. As the recovery run I missed is only 15 minutes I don't think I'll do myself any damage if I take it really easy. Saturday is going to be spent on a plane and a coach so that will definitely be a rest day!

Who knows, maybe I'll get a red tick too :)

You made me chuckle.

I just completed the runs in very random orders too. I done whatever took my fancy.

I start the NRC HM run in the app and when its time to go click start on my Garmin watch.

That way I can have a coached NRC guided run (I am enjoying these at the moment) in the HM training programme and continue further at the end if I want to. Everything is then recorded on my Garmin and thus Strava.

Its a win win all round.

A great coached run

A nice red tick

A recorded run on Garmin

Documented on Strava.

PS you don't need to do all the runs. You can manually advance to the next week and leave some runs behind if you wish 👍

Yes, I skipped a couple of runs the first week and skipped to the second. I normally start the Garmin when I leave home and stop it when I get back, starting NRC when I'm actually running. Husband switches his Garmin on just for the run. We generally end up together on Strava where we can compare stats lol.The main reason for me having my whole activity on Garmin is to track how far my shoes have gone. Obsessive, moi?

Yeah! Bring it on, baby-yyy! Who’d ever have thought that the speed runs could be so appealing? Ive been having such a great time trying these out - sometimes making a complete hash of them, but sometimes succeeding too. Whatever, they always leave me smiling. Enjoy!

in reply toGailXrunning

I'm finding them so much more fun than when I was just plodding along. I don't know why though as I don't really enjoy running fast. Somehow, its different and gives me a sense of achievement.

It was yourself and oldbadknees who spoke so positively about the plan that I decided to give it a go. I am really glad I did so a huge thank you from me to you two.

So glad it’s working as well for you as it does for me. 😊 And I was introduced to it by others before me on this forum.😃🙏

Holey Moley 3 min/km!! Thats some going! Were about the same age and I can only get into the high 4 min 50s and doubt that I will be able to get anywhere near 4:30. Good on you!

in reply toFreecloud

Erm! That is in jest. Of course I can't do that!! It was an attempt at humour over some of the things my Garmin watch suggests I do.

Todays suggestion was to go run for 18 minutes at 5:15 per km. No chance. I would be in a heap on the floor.

For the record I generally run about 6 min kms so no need to panic 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Ha ha! That's great to hear (read?), I thought you had gone off your rocket altogether and running around like the Tasmanian Devil trying to attempt what nrc suggested!

I'm working from home today and only briefly scanned through the posts, so I'll gladly take the hit on missing the irony

😂

I myself want to do a nice 6min ish 10k run today, but I have a bit of a pain top of left leg that I think I got from stretching rather than running and not sure what to do. Garmin says that I need 30 hours more recovery time from yesterday evenings track session but I want to nowster a bit every day like nowster

in reply toFreecloud

I still have the pain at the top of my leg which I am being careful not to make worse. It happened at the start of my 10k. No idea why it happened but it hasn't gone away.

Trying different exercises which may be keeping it under control but I'm not going to push it too far
