First go at treadmill running this morning. Much better experience than I imagined going to a gym would be. I was probably the oldest there but a range of ages really and pretty few in numbers. I did 45" after a 45" swim and that felt like enough.I had it set at 5....but couldn't work out the equivalent to my outdoor running which is about 8"/k.
It was easier, warmer, and boring in terms of scenery. I will use it a couple of times a week for part of my red January and you can sign up just for a month, so not tied into a year.

Hi your keen a swim and a run on a treadmill. Never fancied the gym prefer the outside, but have exercise bike in spare room (clothes horse ) when not in use. Did try treadmill on holiday 2 years ago was ok but.not the same as fresh air. Kept running towards the back of treadmill and nearly falling off. It’s better than the slippy pavements but I think mild for a while . 😊
Yes, I nearly went off the back a couple of times too... It's freezing here in the mornings. I don't mind if the sun is there but when it's just grey........the gym is 8 miles away so have to do as much as poss once I'm there.
My treadmill is - according to my knowledge - just the km/h that you push. So if I want to run 7 km/h, I just push up to 7.0. Though in my experience, I can't run as fast on the treadmill as I can outdoors.
I wonder why it's harder to run indoors when there aren't any adverse weather conditions. I think I was running slower than usual but I put that down to having swum first. I'll try the running first next time, tho maybe it was too much for one day as my body battery went to 5 and has only reached 12 this morning!
For me the issue is in the fact that I am forced into a fixed speed / pace. Outdoors my pace changes constantly without noticing it. It is only very small changes that you don't consciously notice, but they are there. And on the treadmill your body doesn't have that luxury. Plus the fact that there is no fresh air and air resistance. You might think no air resistance makes it easier, but for me it makes it harder. I guess there will be more reasons, but can't find them now. Nevertheless I will use my treadmill today again as I want to get more used to it.
I only run on a treadmill. I like knowing I’m going at a consistent pace, it’s softer on your joints than running on tarmac and, above all, I feel less of an idiot running in the gym (because everyone else there looks like an idiot too!) than out and about in town. I completely understand why if you live somewhere more rural, running in the great outdoors would be preferable, but in central London, the gym wins out for me.
I tried it again this morning after an hour's tennis so went straight into running as I thought I'd probably warmed up on court. I think I will have to run slower than outside as I'm getting too hot too quickly. I think I've read that on a post somewhere too. It was very boring tho as I forgot my phone. Also forgot a towel so couldn't shower afterwards.. I need a list of " stuff for the gym".
