Hello Everyone and happy weekend. Today is parkrun day, a free 5K event which takes place every Saturday morning all around the world. It is for everyone, slow, fast, able, disabled, big, small and everyone in between. Oh and don't forget about the super Mum's and Dad's who push their babies in buggies. You can walk, jog, run, run/walk, it's not a race, just a run in the park and loads of us here on Bridge to 10K do it religiously every Saturday morning.
parkrun is back thankfully in most Countries around the World. I am hoping for any Countries still struggling with COVID-19 that it returns to you soon.
Some of us may not be able to do a parkrun at the moment so until parkrun returns fully for everyone some of us will continue to take part on our own in a Virtual parkrun every Saturday morning called a (not)parkrun. Or if you are away on Holidays, prefer to run on your own, or do not have a parkrun close by you a (not)parkrun is perfect, please feel free to join in.
Please post a little run report after your parkrun or (not)parkrun and let everyone know how you got on. The little run report can be done over a post parkrun coffee and treat/cake. (parkrun is all about the after run coffee and cake, and meeting friends old and new).
If you are a new graduate and would like to start, all you have to do is run, walk or jog at a parkrun or a 5K run/jog/walk (not)parkrun anytime today or tomorrow and write a little run report under this post. It's like a little community and it is good fun, sets you up nicely for the weekend. If you want to you can register on the parkrun website and you can log your 5K (not)parkrun. In fact you can log any 5K done during the week as a (not)parkrun.
For anyone whom has not done a real parkrun yet and if it is available to you, give it a try. It is the most wonderful community event. Saturday mornings will never be the same again.
Looking forward to hearing from all of you who ran in real proper parkruns and (not)parkruns. Happy running and have a lovely weekend.

Good morning Damien, I meant to go to my first parkrun of the New Year this morning but Keith the man who takes me to parkrun isn't too well but hopefully I'll be able to go with him next week.
I did run a short 3K this morning at 9 o'clock, on Wednesday I ran my 82nd (not) parkrun in a time of 37.07 in icy conditions, I had aimed at around 39 minutes under the conditions so I was quite happy with that time, I hope you had a very good time at the New Year and I wish you and your son happy parkrunning in 2022.,
Good morning!Sadly I failed to get a Get Out of Jail early card of 2 negative tests to allow me out on day 7, so have had to serve the full 10 days house arrest (even though no symptoms since Monday) Tomorrow I might finally be able to do my first run of 2022. Happy parkrunning everybody!
Morning Damien, I headed for a nearby park run (not my local one) as it is mostly flat. When I got there, found out they had to change the route, due to works on the regular path. The new route had two BIG hills. Arrrgh!I'm focusing on improving running form (backwards arm drive, relaxed shoulders etc), so thought "ah well, run anyway and just look to improve your form". Got a PB!
Goes to prove its not about speed, its also about running efficiently.
Had to plan a bit as I didn’t fancy the risk of flooding at Eastville (meaning the devil B course as you’ve experienced damienair !) I didn’t fancy Ashton Court as I’ve already run there this week, and I needed to walk Flossie. 🐕 Clevedon Salthouse Fields fit the bill.
It rained and rained and rained and there were some monster puddles - the first one we were forced to walk through as there were some people who seemed to want to keep their trainers dry! They were to get even wetter later in the run, so that was a useless exercise. Also, the finish funnel is on grass, so by the time I got there it was a literal mud slick and we were advised to stop immediately. Run done, no records broken, but a badge of honour over my daughter who didn’t brave the elements today!
Yes definitely a tick in the one upmanship stakes there cheeky! That all sounds hard work! I was warm and dry, well dry anyway, in my coat and over trousers as I scanned barcodes!
Number 24 at wilmslow this morning and boy was it a soggy one! Had some pacers out and was pleased to catch up to the 24 minute bib given how far back I started. I always intend to take it steady then you see the people and get excited! 170 brave folks today and finished 26th. Just glad that I could get out to one really given that glossop was called off due to the horrible weather. Really hope its on next week as it's where I did my first parkrun back on the 24th July last year and I hope to do my 25th there next week.
I like it. Been 4 times now. It's definitely better for the wetter days since its not run on grass or trails. Dread to think how muddy everyone got at marple this morning!
Back to my usual haunt this week. Wet doesn't describe it!
The rain eased just before 9am, from torrential to light. It resumed its former intensity about 10am. Had it been still lashing down at 8.50am I'd have given up.
There were more there than I'd expected. Many regulars and some tourists, even from over the border in Huddersfield.
Part of the route was still slippery from yesterday's snow/hail and a marshal was directing us onto increasingly churned up muddy (and slippery) grass to go round it.
There was a lot of bunching at the start, and I didn't start moving up the field until people started to spread out. The going was "slow" in places underfoot, too.
There was one lady running today with a three wheeled pushchair. I suggested afterwards she ought to have it fitted with spikes like in the chariot race in Ben Hur.
As I'm currently running every day (RED January) I'm taking things more easily. I resisted the urge to push myself today, instead trying to keep at a sustainable pace.
For only the second time I overtook someone on the final straight. He actually looked like he was running on the dregs of his energy. I finished half way down the field as usual: 35 out of 75.
I hung around chatting at the end for a bit, but decided to head off when I was starting to get cold. Back in my car it took ages for me to get my glasses not to steam up after cleaning them.
Good afternoon Damien and all. Just warmed up in the shower - it was so cold, wet and windy today. We went to the cafe after to warm up but got cold again on the way home 🥶 Still, I did spot a primrose which warmed my heart even if the rest of me was chilled.
We had quite a good turn out today, which was a surprise given the conditions. Stratford is a bit of a desert at the moment as it is that one time of the year we don’t have many tourists, and this was reflected at parkrun too, furthest was Hastings today but there was no other.
I’m on the third week of my Bath Half plan this week so this was my tempo run. Wasn’t feeling very tempo but I did what I could. It was very muddy where they’re still doing the paths up. I had half thought about wearing my new trail shoes but I bottled out and stuck with the Ghosts. Did a slowish 5km last night and I think it showed in my performance today - 28:46 which is the slowest in a while. Still, it’s done.
300+ tokens to sort out in front of some nice telly and a warm fire now.
RDing again next week as I start my cut back week. Have a good one everybody 👍👍👍
I did Finish Tokens with one other chap. We had just over 500 hardy souls turn up for the muddy drizzle-fest (met a former cricket Dad, who will beat me next week). I helped with token sorting then walked back home in the ever increasing rain. Supposed to be sunny intervals tomorrow. I'll do some door painting this afternoon and postpone my run til tomorrow- in the dry!
Legs have been sore and achy since I joined the North Sligo Athletics Club (2 week trial) last Tuesday. I have been asked to change the way I run, because the coach told me that I have duck feet. I have been doing new stretches to rectify the problem and trying to force my feet inward when running.
I also wanted a bit of a lie in this morning because not sleeping too well, so went for non parkrun 5k instead @ 26.51.
Well done to you Beth_f, they say (not) parkrun is to stay so you can do that tomorrow, congratulations to your daughter who has secured a place at The Globe Theatre, you should be very proud of her, happy weekend to you. 😊
Hello folks. UpTheStanley was RD this morning so no chance of staying in bed, despite the weather. We had to drive the kit down and UTS briefed the volunteers while I drive back home to pick up his forgotten specs. Gusting 31 mph south westerly and very cold rain . Oldgirlruns was barcode scanning , Coddfish timekeeping and Mr Coddfish was Funnel manager . My tasks were before and after the run so I had the pleasure of running with the wind behind me and then after the cone I was run/walking against the elements. I was surprised that so many turned up to run - 351 came in at 56:39. My time at 36:38 was no record breaker but I was 4th out of 12 in my age group.
I’m so glad that I took a complete change of clothes down with me for coffee and breakfast as by the time I’d helped take the kit to its new home at the Gym, I was absolutely soaked. Breakfast went down very well.
Tokens were sorted at home in the warm with oldgirlruns and 3 missing again. They are not medals! 🤣🤣
We do token sorting in the park cafe after. It is a good incentive to get runners to get in some volunteering and saves the race director having to do it.
We used to do that but since Covid we don’t encourage people into the same cafe now.
Normally they get sorted into a grid-like box by the volunteers during the event so the RD just has to sort each section, replace missing tokens and put back on the lace. Our choice to have an uninterrupted breakfast and then do it all at home instead, as volunteers. Also the parking meter was ticking today.
Oh Dexy, I don’t know how you all did it today. Massive kudos to UpTheStanley , Oldgirlruns , Coddfish , Mr Coddfish and all those volunteering today. It was dreadful. I was amazed we had as many as we did. So glad we can now sort tokens in the comfort of our homes rather than standing in the cold - ours are still to be sorted but, yes, we always have one or two missing as well. We will be collecting our ‘Bag of Power’ this afternoon. Out of interest, is it called a ‘Bag of Power’ at your parkrun?
Continuing this week's theme, it was very wet at Portsmouth Lakeside this morning. 180 brave souls splashed their way round. By the lake there were more puddles than there was path - it was quite fun though! I managed 30.05 and speedily headed for home.
Another pair of trainers drying! Well done Jonathan, that’s a great time. Puddles are fun aren’t they? I was surprised at the long line of people walking through the first one at Clevedon. I wanted to give them a shove! 😅
I didn’t run today Damien but was barcode scanning - thank goodness for overtrousers, hats and gloves! Quite a good turnout considering the horrible weather, 350 or so - what brave souls they were! A good brekkie afterwards, then back to Dexy and UTS to sort tokens in the warm and dry. And that was Saturday morning done!
HelloIt was my first PR today throwing it down . I was dressed in tracie bottoms and a raincoat unlike most if the 306 people there in shorts and tee shirts.
I was caught up I the excitement of it all and had to walk jog cos of going to fast, but I was very pleased at my results.
300 out of 306 first in my age categories probably the only one 🤣 and a PB of 40 mins 33 secs. Bet I dont beat that one next week.
Oisin joined me yesterday morning and we did some parkrun tourism in Dublin. We ran at Poppintree parkrun. It was a lovely calm morning, the rain over night was moving across the UK so you poor lot got it. The parkrun was a lovely friendly one and the course was flat. Would be a good course to attempt a PB. I finished 90 seconds faster this week even though I had to take a short walking break. My finish time was 31:58 and Oisin was just under 29 minutes. We both then had a post parkrun breakfast in a McDonalds. My 86th parkrun done.
Very wet, cold and slippy Parkrun yesterday, so it was a slower time, but still enjoyed it. Trying to use the bad weather runs as training runs and not to worry too much about time. Having said that, I start off with that on my mind, but the minute the timekeeper says ' Parkrun go' thats it, the little devil on my shoulder urges me to run and keep those I want to beat in sight and off I go!
I do admire you lot out there running in those horrible conditions. I woke up bright and early, looked out of the window and said to Mr OBK 'the weather's horrible, what about Parkrun?' His reply, 'Come back to bed'. I knew there was a good reason I married him.(He did say he was only joking but I think he was as pleased as I was to stay warm and dry)
Some of us are just crazy. If I looked out the window and seen that weather on a normal running day I'd get back into bed too. But I'd run in a storm to get a parkrun done, and I have many times 😂
