First 10k ever!

Well yesterday I managed my first 10k ever. Queen's "Don't Stop Me Now!" helped for the last km, and brought the last split time up a little from the 8 and 9 kms. Thanks, Freddie!!

1 hour 15 mins and 7 seconds, so pretty pleased all round. Although I play netball, that's all short sharp runs. As a 55 year old, I'm a bit creaky, and only decided that I needed to up my running due to lockdown last year, and an associated lack of exercise. Will just bask in the warm fuzzy feeling before embarking on the next goal.

Well done NetballKitty! That’s brilliant, you have earned that basking time. I have to say well done on the netball too, oooh I used to dread it at school 🤣. Enjoy the glow 😊😊😊.

Fantastic. Well done on achieving the 10km milestone 👏.

Now sit back, enjoy and bask. You deserve it 🥳👍

Well done Netballkitty, that's the headline I'm hoping to head up my 10k post - one day! Your netball probably helps as you say, the combination of short runs and longer runs is a good formula to build distance and it's worked for you.Enjoy your Runners' High and a treat or two to mark your achievement! Best wishes ☺️

I remember that feeling so well a few months ago! This was my elation. I’ve since done a 10k race and signed up for a half marathon. Enjoy it!

Oh yes! You bask in the warm fuzzy feeling! Congratulations! I was such a keen netball player for many years. Have you continued netball since youth or have there been long gaps when you didn't play?

No real gaps, except for kids and occassional injuries. The only gap I really had was after I left uni where I didn't play for about 3 years, but then got back into it, and have played ever since. You should take it up again - there are lots of back to netball clubs who welcome all ages and abilities. I know several players who are playing well into their 70s, so never too late to get your bib on again!
