Well that was an interesting run yesterday. I took part in the first organised run in my life. I believe it’s a park run for most folk…
Not me - I was asked at the last minute to fill a 10k relay space in the Manchester marathon for a local disabled kids charity. It was an experience to say the least.
I was running the 10-21k leg (you may notice that’s not 10k , I was conned! 😂)
As we had an incomplete team, we didn’t bother with the handovers (also had no way of tracking the previous runner) and just went for it. Unfortunately this meant joining the race with the very fast marathon runners. Joined near the 3.00 hour pacer for the full race - from there it all went wrong - far too fast, smashed every PB upto 5k, and nearly died on the second half of the leg. Had to Jeff (didn’t want to admit to run/walking) bits from 6k.
Still 5k time was 30’29” (46 seconds faster than previous PB), 10k 1hr 08’ and a bit (3rd fastest) which I wasn’t too disappointed in.
Learned a few lessons for next time - yes there will be one if I’m invited again.
That’s a sweaty me on the left and one of the other guys running for the same charity.
