I managed to complete week 6, with a 9k run on Sunday. I'd planned a route which according to the map was 9.14 k, but when I got to the end my Garmin said only 8.9k So I had to run an extra 100m along the road and back until my watch showed "officially" over 9k - but I managed it. Final distance showed 9.05k so I was happy I hadn't "cheated"
I had 3 goals in mind when I set off:
1 - to complete the distance
2 - to be under 7 mins / k
3 - (bonus) to do it in under 1 hour
To my delight I managed all 3
If anyone is interested my split times were:
1: 6.52 (I deliberately started off slowly)
2: 6.19
3: 6.20
4: 6.41 (about 3.2k I had to negotiate an underpass at a railway station)
5: 6.28
6: 6.25
7: 6.19
8: 6.04
9: 6.03 (this included my dreaded final 300m uphill section)
So overall I am extremely pleased with my efforts and now feel that 10k should be achievable. I'll repeat this run next Sunday, with my 4k and 5k runs this week - 4k was done this morning, 5k on Thursday or Friday.
I'd love to think I could do my 10k in under an hour but realistically that's not going to happen - hopefully under 7 mins/k though...
I'll keep you posted on progress.
