Hello Everyone and happy weekend. Today is parkrun day, a free 5K event which takes place every Saturday morning all around the world. It is for everyone, slow, fast, able, disabled, big, small and everyone in between. Oh and don't forget about the super Mum's and Dad's who push their babies in buggies. You can walk, jog, run, run/walk, it's not a race, just a run in the park and loads of us here on Bridge to 10K do it religiously every Saturday morning.
parkrun is back thankfully in Northern Ireland, England, Scotland, Wales, and The Republic of Ireland and most places around the world now.
Some of us may not be able to do a parkrun so until parkrun returns fully for everyone some of us will continue to take part on our own in a Virtual parkrun every Saturday morning called a (not)parkrun. Or if you are away on Holidays, prefer to run on your own, or do not have a parkrun close by you a (not)parkrun is perfect, please feel free to join in.
Please post a little run report after your parkrun or (not)parkrun and let everyone know how you got on. The little run report can be done over a post parkrun coffee and treat/cake. (parkrun is all about the after run coffee and cake, and meeting friends old and new).
If you are a new graduate and would like to start, all you have to do is run, walk or jog at a parkrun or a 5K run/jog/walk (not)parkrun anytime today or tomorrow and write a little run report under this post. It's like a little community and it is good fun, sets you up nicely for the weekend. If you want to you can register on the parkrun website and you can log your 5K (not)parkrun. In fact you can log any 5K done during the week as a (not)parkrun.
For anyone whom has not done a real parkrun yet and if it is available to you, give it a try. It is the most wonderful community event. Saturday mornings will never be the same again.
Looking forward to hearing from all of you who ran in real proper parkruns and (not)parkruns. Happy running and have a lovely weekend.

No PR again for me this weekend. Baby grandson came home yesterday and running needs to take a back seat today. No regrets, he’s totally worth it! 💙 I’ll go on a dog walk later. 🐕
Hi damienair , (not) park runners and park runners,
25th Park run for us today so think it’s about time we went on the volunteer roster!. Didn’t manage a PB but ran it in 27:42 which considering I was wearing a rather warm Bobble hat for the “grand footy final” dress code was still a good result for me🤣
I was Tail Walker today, my first time doing this volunteer role. My 75th parkrun and 19th volunteer day. It was so nice, I walked along with a lady who was doing her very first parkrun. She was on a weight loss journey and had been training with a walking group to get to 5K. I finished in a time of 52:40. This lady did so well and gave it max effort. That is what I love about parkrun, the guy who was first finisher was probably under 18 minutes and he gave it his max effort. But when he was finished and as we passed by the finish line on another lap he clapped and cheered for the lady I was walking with as he knew she was digging just as deep as he did. Every journey is an individual one.Oisin was running. He decided this morning that he was going to try and beat his PB of 26:32. Drum 🥁 roll, he did it and finished in a time of 25:48. He is getting scarily close to my PB of 25:36, I won’t be able to hold that over him for too much longer 😀.
Good afternoon Damien and all. We’ve just got back from our post parkrun provisions shopping so it’s sourdough for lunch instead of my rolls 😋We were back in Stratford today and it was nice to be able to do pre-setup for the first time in a while. Katnap also did scanning as he was as speedy as ever.
The weather was a bit humid which was disappointing as yesterday was a perfect chilly morning and I was hoping for the same again. Consequently it was harder work than expected and I came in at 27:10. However I was 3rd in my age grade which is unheard of for me at Stratford so I was very chuffed.
It was a really chatty, friendly meet today and it just reminded me how lucky we are to have this back and right on our doorstep too. It was great to catch-up with so many people and chat to a few tourists too.
Off for my sports massage this afternoon, can’t come a minute too soon!
Hello everybody, the dream team were volunteering at Southsea parkrun this morning with me and Coddfish on Finishing Tokens, just like we were on my first volunteer 3 years ago, and as a result became good friends. Runners are still puffing and panting when they reach us but it’s great when they remember to express their gratitude to volunteers. Mr Coddfish was Funnel Manager and UpTheStanley took up his position as Run Director for the first time. So pleased that everything ran smoothly for him, and he can sleep well tonight. I’m very proud of him, And perhaps he will post his experience in due course (travel to a hockey match in Richmond followed straight away) .
Wonderful. Well done Dexy5 for volunteering and to all your volunteering friends too. Congratulations also to UpTheStanley on first time being Run Director. Hope there were no funnel duckers.😀
Thanks for those kind words people - cheekychipmunks damienair TailChaser Sandie1961 and JonathanP -I've done a separate post describing it from my point of view
Hi Damienair and running friends. I did Bognor Regis Parkrun this morning🏃♂️🏃♀️🏃♀️🏃♂️ The weather was mercifully cooler than for the 5K I ran yesterday afternoon so much more pleasant to run in👍
They caught me out at the start by setting us off before I’d got myself sorted out🙁 After much faffing around I trundled off in the middle of the pack. It meant though that I hadn’t completed 5K at the end according to Strava, so I walked around a bit after going through the finish funnel and getting the token formalities out of the way. According to Strava I finished in 32:03, but my official time was 30:46 according to their email. I’m very pleased with that and it’s good progress towards the Great South Run in 3 weeks😃👍 Happy running everyone! 🏃♀️🏃♂️
Thanks Dexy5 I think so! I ran 12K on Wednesday without any problems. I’m aiming to run 13K this coming week then 14K the following week as my long runs in preparation for GSR, as well as 2x5K each week. I hope that’ll be enough 🤞
Good afternoon Damien, this morning I ran my 23rd parkrun, this time I was a first timer at The University of Stirling parkrun, I was taken there by car by Keith, that's the man I ran with for his graduation run of C25K.There was NO first timers briefing, just the usual welcome from the run director wishing us well, the usual asking who came from the furtherest distance and "Parkruners don't have the park to themselves for a parkrun." my time for that first parkrun at Stirling was 32.26, I was 118th out of 153 runners, Keith wants to go back next week in the hope of getting a quicker time, all in all a good run for me this morning.
It is nice to go to a parkrun that you have not ran before, parkruns in Scotland begin at 9.30, we got to the place that the run begins at 9.05, immediately got lost, at first we went to a entrance to the University, the door of course was locked, returned to the car park, asked other runners where does the parkrun start?, they didn't know either as they were also first timers, eventually as more runners arrived we just followed them to where the run began. 😊 🏃🏾 The course is not completely flat, some parts are a bit more like a trail run but I did not need to walk at all this morning.
Very well done Al. I’m looking forward to getting back to doing some parkrun tourism next weekend. A new one started up 3 weeks ago in a town called Trim which is just 10 minutes away from me. The Norman castle in Trim was used for the film Braveheart as York and the Tower of London. It will be in view as I run 2 laps of the Porch Fields. Just realised I need a P for my Alphabet challenge. I’ll get it there as well as my new NENDY ( Nearest Event Not Done Yet).
The Chadderton Hall Park was quiet this morning with only 50 runners (it's normally about 70-80). A cross country run in the same park is scheduled for later on in the day and the Manchester 10k and Half Marathons are on this weekend, so some of the more hardcore runners will have been saving themselves.
I got a few questions about my toe shoes this morning before we set off.
It was overcast and slightly warm (18°C) but very humid. Either side of the run time it drizzled.
I tried to record both on the watch and on Strava but realised I'd recorded it incorrectly as a "Workout" on Strava instead of a run, which meant no GPS trace. Thankfully I was later able to retrieve the FIT file off the watch and upload it to Strava manually.
I deliberately held back on the first lap, until I got stuck behind a quartet of teenage girls from a local netball group all running side-by-side across the path. A gap eventually opened up between them and I sprinted the 10m or so needed to get me past them.
In the "rose garden with no roses" many horse chestnuts had fallen onto the paths, but the cases were empty and no conkers could be seen.
I paced things well and was only just on the point of running out of steam towards the end.
Today's official time was exactly half an hour: 30'00". This was my second fastest on this course. I placed 21 in a field of 50.
I will be missing this week’s Parkrun again as, along with my tibial tendinitis, I’ve now injured my back getting my mum’s wheelchair out of the car. 😖 Good luck to all who are running today. 👍
Thank you TC. 😊 I know I have to be patient especially as I’ve got two injuries to heal. It’s tough, but the runs will just have to wait. I’ve got the physio again on Wednesday.
In the meantime I’ll stick with the exercises. slow walks and swimming. 👍
Nothing to write home about. Garmin didn't like the trees at the start and once again I forgot to turn it off until well after the end. Still it was just under 45 minutes. I'll treat that as my second recovery run after my legs told me last Sunday's 10K was tougher than I had first thought! Saw my old neighbour and another current near-ish neighbour (ex Rhino suited London marathon runner) on my 3K run back, who said she will sign up next week. I met her again later while I was I was mowing the lawn. Why do I end up mowing the lawn after runs? Last week I did my mum's!
I completed my 3rd parkrun this week. Each run is getting faster. I’m enjoying it and always seem to find someone I can tuck in behind 😀Fewer runners this week with a quicker group so I was 93 out of 99 runners.
Well that was a great experience at Dulwich Park. Lots of faffing to get there, search for my barcode (printed off three years ago). Couldn’t find my car keys so husband dropped me off (in his dressing gown) I said to pick me up at 10.30 and we’re both surprised when I’d finished at 9.50 (thankfully he had time to get dressed 😂)
The park run results! I took part in the event not quite last. Placed 437 out of 441 with a time of 49.15 🏃🏽♀️
The guy before me I had overtaken him previously and then around half a kilometre from the end, he passed me by (guy around 70 years young) and got to finish just before me. Next time I’ll have to employ some tactical running. 🤣
49.15 was quickest 5k to date 👊🏾 I thought I was a lone wolf but seems I like running in a pack - well at least on a Saturday.
Next Saturday will be doing Race for Life (on grass) which is causing me a bit of anxiety, will put on my big girl pants and smile.
I plan to do my first park run next weekend!! 😁 I thought it might be quite apt to do my first one the same weekend of the London marathon. I've been wanting to do it for a while and have since graduated 10K. I'm more confident in joining others for 5K now it seems absolutely manageable. 😆
Having only gone back to parkrun last week, we had running friends visiting this weekend, who invited me to go for a run this morning (Sunday) so I missed parkrun yesterday. We spent yesterday evening researching ski trips for this winter over a bottle or two, so it was possibly not my best decision. However, 10k in 1.06 wasn’t a bad time and added to this week’s 12k prep run for GSR. the weather was perfect and the run set us up for a full English when we got back. Back to Market Rasen parkrun next week 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Hi Damien and all Park Runners. Such a lovely afternoon and been out for a steady 5k in the sunshine. Atually close on 6K, as the cool breeze pushed me a bit further, so useful for Bridge to 10k too.I'm quite pleased as I hadn't run for 8 days, but it all felt the same as if I'd been out 2/3 times.
A good day topped off with coffee and flapjack - well Damien, I thought that was an integral part of your programme so had to oblige and I'm really good at it!
Better late than never! It's been a busy weekend - no parkrun for me yesterday as it was youngest granddaughter's first birthday party, but following a lengthy lunch with wine on Friday I needed to run some of it off! So after waking up early, I was out of the door at 5.30 for a (not) parkrun. Very peaceful at that time of the morning - running along what is normally a very busy road, I was intrigued that a fox crossed over to check out who was invading his territory! A very pleasant 32.53 with negative splits.
