I just (re)twisted my ankle on a gentle run. This is my 5th sprain on the left ankle and the second this year. (The right one is also a bit weak).
This evening I was well warmed up and the ankle twisted on a flat gravel path.
I intend to visit a physio tomorrow.
Does anyone have any advice?
Are repetitive sprains common? I'm a bit baffled by this.
Up 'til that point it was a good run. And I finished the evening talking to some very friendly dog walkers, I also had a good beer when I got home.... so no bitterness.

You're doing the best thing by visiting a physio. I would also check the shoes and make sure they offer the right, maximum support. If you haven't already done it, consider a gait analysis shop visit. They will know if your feet are in need of insoles (maybe even custom made). One thing for sure, what's happening is not right and by consulting a few experts (physio and the specialist retailer) you should get to the bottom of it.
Ouch, I've only sprained my ankle the right one once, but omg the pain WOW but it was a squash injury not from running. Is definitely be getting it checked out as there's got to a cause for such an amount of injuries.
A rather long winded report is below if of any use
This time last year I was in denial about a bad ankle sprain I'd given myself. Over the course of a week it got progressively worse until by the weekend I was hobbling and in pain. I eventually got a physio appointment and that's the best thing I could have done at that point.
Expect to be prodded and poked, and given painful deep massage. Listen to any advice they give you, and follow the exercises they give you. Take your running shoes with you for the physio to look at them.
There are some exercises you can do which will strengthen the ankle and the calf muscles, but only when the pain has gone.
When I played football (on the flat) this happened to me quite frequently so I started playing with ankle supports on. This reduced the occurrence and improved recovery but was many years ago now. Recent gait analysis showed I under pronate and I got some shoes to help.The above mentioned advice is all sound so good luck with the physio!
See what your physio says. There are loads of exercises you can do to strengthen and improve the situation. I would strongly advise against any support type products unless the physio recommends them. Providing too much support can rapidly weaken muscles as I know to my cost. Far better to work on improving what you have 👍🏻
I had a physio appointment for an ankle sprain yesterday. As everyone says, you’ll get great advice and exercises to strengthen the area. He told me I should replace my running shoes every 3 months as when they get old they no longer support you properly. I’m 99% sure this is why I’ve been hobbling for nearly 4 weeks. How often do you replace yours?
At the opposite end of the scale, I used to wear high heels all the time and got sprained ankles doing that too. Never tried running in them, except for the bus. It's great if you can build the muscles up but I like my shoes to do some work too. Hope you feel better soon.

Gsit analysis might be worthwhile for me. The physio suspects that I land on the outside of my foot when I run, so the ankle is exposed to be turned over on every landing.
