So one of my personal challenges this month is to run 5 x 5km in a week, and I've chose this week to do it! Going well so far - 2 runs in - I am not pushing the speed (aiming for 32-33min) and lots of stretches. I have decided to go for 3 back-to-back, a days rest and then 2 back-to-back with a further days rest before starting again next week.

I would like to work towards normalising 5(+) runs a week so really keen to hear any tips you may have?!

Great challenge to set yourself. Top tip - believe in yourself and your ability. I challenged myself to run every day in May, my young neighbours said keep your runs really short at least to start with. Of course I ignored them and started with 10k, listened to my body, believed in myself. 31 runs later ranging from 5 - 12k gave me 220km and £1200. Happy running 🤗

220km in a month is fantastic, and to run every day of the month is outstanding! I know a couple of people that run every day without fail and I am in awe of them - one day!

Unfortunately it all went downhill after that with summer heat and I’m now cycling more than walking - key - listen to your body

5K x 5 times per week might be a bit much. A couple of years ago I was running 5K on a Tuesday and Thursday evening, a 5K parkrun on Saturday morning and a 10K run on a Sunday morning. Same distance overall per week but 4 runs instead of 5. I would run at a nice easy pace for the 10K, an interval session for one of the 5K's and at parkrun I would attempt a faster PB attempt once every 4 weeks or so. Mixing up the runs worked really well and my 5K finish times really improved. Although the whole process was split out over a year. I am trying to work back up towards that again after lockdown. I am currently running 3 x 5K's per week at about a 34-35 minute 5K finish time. I'll start adding distance this week onto one of my 5K runs and over the next few weeks will build back up towards 10K.

Good luck on your challenge. Listen to your body, if you feel any niggles at all, take 2 days off to recover. I managed 5K everyday for 2 weeks once, I was gong for a month of 5K's every day, but after 2 weeks I developed niggles, listened to my body and gave up. It's just not worth it.

Thanks for the advice, I wont push it if I begin to ache or feel any strain.

Best of luck. It is a good challenge and I am sure will greatly improve your running and fitness.

I love running consecutive days, I’m constantly being told I shouldn’t do it but after day off it’s a little bit harder, 2 days off and I find it so difficult, when I run I can’t wait to run again and next day I’m stronger, and following day same. I need a day off sometimes but I hate it after every run

I think it all depends on how new you are to running - the longer you run the more your body gets used to it and the more you can push.

True that 😊

I’ve done that before, back in April- managed 5x 5km per week for the month, but then I let it slip and haven’t built it back up yet. This was going to be the week, but woke up this morning, after 2x 5kms with a really stiff ankle, so think my body’s complaining sat me.Might toy with the idea of 3x 5’s and a steady 10 as Damien suggested above. 🤔
