Very well done to all the Crossing the Bridge Gang on joining up last week and all your runs. Some of us are working at consolidating 5K before moving on and some are well ready to start crossing the bridge already. I'm not there yet. I did a 5K earlier at lunch time in 35:49 with a couple of walking breaks. I'll give it 3 more weeks and then we will start moving across the Bridge together as a Gang. I'll continue to build back up to 5K properly first. Hope you all have a great week of 5K consolidating and looking forward to hearing how you are all getting on.

I’m pleased I managed a 5k this morning without irritating my post tib. I had one walking break when I stopped to give someone directions. But I am hoping this is the start of my come back!
Congratulations to you Damien on running your first 5K for a little while in a good time of 35.49, that's a great time considering that you have not been running lately, as they say, "onwards and upwards"
Hi Damien and everyone. Out running again today while dry weather beckoned. I'm using C210k app and started at w13 with todays run being 2x 25 mins runs with 1 min walk between them and 1 min walk at the end. There are also 5 mins warm up and down and the park was not busy so slow and steady I went . I'm not sure of distance as I left my Garmin at home, but think it may have been a tad over 5k, I'll check next time. I'm quite achey, glad to have run today but 10k still seems a big ask - we'll see.
Hope all others are managing to get out and enjoy the challenge. Best wishes ☺️
No 5k for me today, nowhere near! Today was the day of the week where I try to add in some hills. I struggle with tight calves so I started with a 10 min warm up jog on the flat (already feeling like hard work, probably due to a considerable hike on the moor last night after work), then up the hill. I could probably have walked faster at points, but I kept going until I took a wrong track through the bracken and was faced with a bog in front of me!
I had to back-track across the rocks I'd just come over and going back down it wasn't sensible to run. Once I'd stopped it was hard to get started again, so I walked the final min or two it took to reach the track across the hill, then a pleasant run on the grass until my 30 mins was up. In total 88m of climb, the vast majority (75m? 80m?) of which I managed at something that I'm going to optimistically call a run (ok, just about kept my legs moving on...).
I can't say this run was much fun, but I'm feeling good now I've stopped!!! Hopefully it will help with flatter/slightly hilly routes, and maybe one day I'll be able to attack it with a bit more oomph. The track that was my high point today is only about a 1/3 of the way up the tor, even the thought of climbing more exhausts me at the moment. Yet last night there were a couple of trail runners out where I was walking, who had run up something I'd have struggled to walk up...amazing!
I think your 5k time is pretty good going Damien, not too shabby at all! Well done you! I haven’t run since parkrun/walk on Saturday but I’m back home again now and will probably get out for a short trot tomorrow.
Yes well done. I'm so jealous of you parkrunners. I can't wait for it to return. I went out for a walk yesterday evening and listened to a parkrun podcast all about the return of parkrun. I got a little emotional. On Monday I ran 2.5K, walked for 500 meters to recover and ran 1K, walked 200 meters and ran 800 meters. I'm back out today. I'll attempt 3K, walking break and run the rest.
Your walk-run sounds a bit like my parkrun on Saturday Damien! I got out this morning and Laura guided me through run 1 of week 9. At 2.92k I still can’t get below a 10 minute per km pace but hey ho, it is what it is! I must listen to that podcast, it sounds good! Happy running!
I dream of 5K in under 40 mins 😂 Re-ran week 4 day 2 yesterday with a little extra at the end around 40 mins altogether just under 4K. Definitely couldn’t say it was enjoyable but, it was a start.
Today ( not going to be able to run again until Thursday), did 20mins which was about 2.25 K.
Very well done. I did week 4 run 1 last week and found it a little challenging. On Monday I ran 2.5K walked for 500 meters to recover and ran 1K, walked 200 meters and ran 800 meters. I'm back out today. I'll attempt 3K, walking break and run the rest.
Hi everyone well done on the runs!! 😁😁 I ran last night for 35 minutes covered 4.75km's at a steady pace. I still feel a little lost as to moving forward with my running. I understand the reasons for bridge to 10km after completing the C25k plan and consolidation and it's not that I'm against training to be able to run 10km's it's the time involved in it.
For example running for 30 minutes, a 5 minute warm up walk and 5 minute cool down walk, dynamic stretches before hand and static stretches afterwards that's about an hour, also there's getting changed into my gear and shower afterwards. If I'm running for an hour + along with all that it's going to be over an hour and half out of the day which is just quite hard to fit into my week. I tend to hike at the weekends so can't really do a long run of a weekend.
I'll see how I get on but that's what's kind of putting me off if that makes sense?
Don't worry. If your happy staying at 5K, then that is perfectly fine. The Bridge to 10K forum is for anyone who wants to continue running after the C25K plan. There is absolutely no pressure to run 10K or any distance for that matter. I love 5K. That is the distance I run 90% of the time. I love parkrun too and whilst I was training to improve my 5K times I trained to run 10K and I challenged myself to run 10K in under an hour which really improved my 5K finish times and gave me some endurance. But most of the time I just run 5K. The last time I did 10K was back in October last year. So no pressure. 5K runs during the week and Hiking at the weekends is perfect.
Yea I'll see how I get on, I would like to improve my speed doing 5km and understand the way to do that is by increasing distance. I just need to make a decision and stick to a plan
Meant to sign up last week. 2 weeks since finishing c25k. This week I have ran 1 short run of 20mins and 2 of 35. Covered 6.3km Thursday and 6km today.
Not sure what plan to follow, looked at a 5k to 10k app and it was all different paces and lengths, looked at the JuJu plan.
Currently thinking 1 short run and 2 where I increase my running time by 10%
Giving blood on Monday so will take it easy this week.
Went and completed parkrun this morning after a week off running with life just seeming to get in the way. Hoping next week is a little more calm so I can fit in my runs😀. Hope everyone else is getting on ok!
Just realised I need to follow you to make sure I take part in the updates.
I've now increased my short run to 40mins which for me means I'm always covering at least 5k of running. I'd say 10k is now a definite target for me, looking at my pace I think I'll need to be running for 70 minutes to cover that distance. My last couple of "long" runs were 50 minutes so I'd say it's just visible, on the horizon...
Hi gang just checking in to say I’ve been doing between 5k and 7k regularly! Feeling good! Weigh in tonight 🤞🙏if I’m not less fatter I am more fitter!!!
Hello, I’m not too sure how this works but can I join you please? Just followed you - hope that’s okay. I did C25K years ago and have kept running but haven’t got any better and have mostly had no plan. I did my first parkrun in many years last week in just under 35 minutes (pushing it, a bit too much). Would be good to join a group and look at improving 5K/increasing distance/getting a bit more motivated
Hi everyone on the bridge. I went out and ran 4.1k, on a lovely warm, sunny afternoon. I would have gone on to 5k, but my friend I run with came over dizzy and so we stopped short. I'm pleased she's all OK. Anyway, another run under my belt that will, hopefully, help me progress to a 10k.🤞Best wishes ☺️
I am so sorry. Work got a bit crazy for me last week and I did not renew the post. We are going into week 4 now. I'll put up a post within the next hour.
