75 minute run πŸ˜ŠπŸƒβ€β™€οΈ

I had intended to run yesterday, but it was pouring with rain first thing and then there were various other demands on my time! So this morning I had everything charged and ready, quick cuppa and I’m off.

This was going to be my longer run and I had planned for 75 minutes, an increase of 15 minutes on last Saturday’s run. I would aim to keep it in Zone 3.

It’s drizzling as I start to run, but I don’t mind. I set off slowly, in Zone 2 for the first kilometre. As I run round my familiar course, I realise how humid it is! It makes running much heavier going, but I’m not running fast, just taking it steady, so I should be fine.

My heart rate obviously reflects the inclines so I slow right down as much as I can on the uphill parts without actually walking! Although I’m experimenting with Jeffing, it’s once a week and my other runs are straight runs with no walking breaks.

I get to 60 minutes and I’m running up an incline struggling to keep in Zone 3. I decide not to worry about it any more and start to pick up the pace a little. Not too much, this run is about stamina and taking it steady. I reach the top of the road where I’m staying and enjoy the downhill stretch until the end of the run.

I’m pleased with this slow run. I ran steadily enough to keep going without any walking breaks. Next weekend I’ll probably do the same distance again before increasing the time, but I’ll see how I feel on the day. Tuesday’s run I’ll be Jeffing 😊.

Nicely done Julia. That's a decent distance and time to be on your feet, especially with the humidity. And you kept it largely in zone 3 where you wanted it. Well done!πŸ‘

I decided against my 10k run - the thigh isnt right and don't want to make it worse. It was 18 degrees and 90% humidity here when I got up to make coffee this morning so glad in a way I'm not running.

Thanks, Diane. I’m sure you made the right decision. Unfortunate, but with injuries we have to be careful not to make things worse. The humidity makes running hard work. I should have got up earlier but was tired. I don’t know what the humidity was here, maybe just as well I didn’t check!

I’ve been really lazy and run less and less, Willow always comes out with me but doesn’t run for long, he liked jeffing though, this week though the swimming has been great but now it’s raining and i’m not one to swim in the rain I will jeff a 5k once a week though as that felt good

You have work shifts to juggle and it’s easy to get out of a routine. I’ve had my anxiety to cope with and a soaring heart rate. I’m not so anxious now and ready to get back to it! 😊

Thanks, Week7! Yes, I’ll soon be writing those long posts again. I suppose I didn’t realise how much moving would take it out of me, but I’ve been here 3.5 months now and it’s TIME! I could be house hunting in a couple of weeks, my solicitor just needs a gentle kick up the &rs@ πŸ˜‚

If I’d realised how humid it was I probably would have stayed in bed. I only realised when I started running and my hair was immediately wet! Thank goodness I didn’t see anyone I knew!

Haha! I never thought of not wearing my glasses, I don’t think I’d feel comfortable crossing the roads ( I cross quite a few!). My sun visor makes sure my glasses don’t get wet! 😊

Our most similar stat was your 1 hour 15mins and my 1 hour 13. I really had to listen to my Achilles, so pace was not a consideration just getting back in one piece. I stopped to take a few photos and to loosen my strapping which will have brought my heart rate down, so presumably interfering with accurate data. Average heart rate was 129bpm, so Mr Garmin did leave me at a VO2 max of 40 (very generous of him) for my 7.37km, 9:54min/km, 154m elevation gain run I shall have to decide what next Saturday's run will be depending on how my Achilles tendon is during the week. It does seem odd that I had such a lot of injuries to my knee and yet it is my tendon that is causing me the most challenges at the moment.

Hi, yes I made it out to run! Pace was nor a consideration for me, either. Just taking it steady. Average heart rate was 139 and I was pleased with that. It did go up at the end as I did increase pace for the last 10-15 minutes. Mr Garmin demoted me to 36 points, fitness age 39. Probably go up again next week when I do a shorter run, he loves those! Elevation gain on this run was 49 metres.

I hope you see some improvement with your Achilles, are you sure it’s ok to run on it?

As you can imagine I have been reading a number of articles, which do say you can run, but they are not completely straight forward and my memory isn't brilliant. Obviously you can't run if the pain level prevents it. My pain is so variable. Usually intermittent, sometimes absent, usually not too bad but yesterday it was worse during the run. As I said first time with the support. It is a pity my physio appointment isn't until mid August and that it is only a telephone appointment. I shall endeavour to be sensible. 😊Around the house and walking the pain is almost totally absent except when carrying out the Achilles physio, which are actually meant to hurt.

Having had periods when I lost the joy of running, now I seem so keen to run three times a week as an investment in my health as well as a celebration of my body working. My body may have other ideas! I do enjoy seeing an increase in my average distance run month by month. Recently took a whole week off to help both my knee and Achilles tendon. A day at a time and as I have heard said on these forums many times, the runs will be waiting if the ic calls.

Have you considered Jeffing? Now - I don’t know anything about the kind of injury you have, but if you say that walking doesn’t hurt, it makes sense to do more of what doesn’t hurt. You could research it and see.

Thank you for the idea, which reminds me I am behind with my physio exercises for today so I had better progress those. At the moment Jeffing isn't a route that I feel like taking. I am so looking forward to my physio taking my problem under her wing even if I give running a break. Certainly will not wear the strapping tomorrow when I run.

And that is another 8 km and 75 minutes in the legs, well done!

Thanks 😊 I did a 10K at the beginning of July but it made me realise that my fitness had slipped, it was hard work. So trying, more slowly this time, to increase time on my feet first.
